...No this isn't a review on Mc Hammer lol, it's Hama bead time in our house. Ever wonder how I can spend so much time on Ciao when it's half term & I have four daugthers?? Well now you will discover my secret.... Four years ago my eldest daughter came back from a dinner date with a school friend of hers clutching a pretty heart shape made from little beads that were stuck together. She was really taken with this new craze & talked to me for what seemed like hours about these little plastic beads & what you can do with them. After much begging & pleading I took the girls into town to see what this craze was all about. On entering our local toy shop we were met by rows & rows of plastic bags containing pretty little plastic beads, such a choice of colours. ...***What are Hama Beads?*** Hama Midi Beads are 5.0 mm in diameter and can be used in three different ways: you can iron them, press them or sew them together to make designs. The ironing system is the one I'm most familiar with. The beads are placed one by one on a pegboard and then ironed until they've fused together. This can be tricky, though more on that later!! In the case of the press system, the beads are placed on a pegboard made up of a special kind of pegs. These come with pegs either on one side only, or on both sides. You won't be able to remove the beads once you've placed them on the pegboard. You can also sew your beads together to make beautiful designs. ...My five year old daughter is very much into everything that she can lay her hands on to do with Disney Princesses. She also loves making things so when it was her birthday I bought her the Hama Beads Disney Princess gift box. She had previously brought home some simple hama bead designs when she was at nursery but this was our experience of having them at home. The gift set contains 3000 beads, 3 plastic grids to work the design on, one pattern template and two ironing sheets. If you are successful you should have everything you need in order to make an Ariel, a Jasmine and a small fish and bird. There were some very scant instructions on the back of the box which I have to confess I overlooked to start with.   PEACE AND HAMANY FOR HOURS ON END

...This Christmas, Santa certainly put huge big smiles on all our faces. We all did really well and received everything that we could have ever hoped for. Gemma aged 6 and Craig did particularly well receiving mountains of toys and games. However, it seemed that the more that a toy was worth in monetary value it was less appealing to both of them. For example, Craig was more than happy to play with the wrapping paper and boxes that all the presents came in, and as for Gemma her eyes lit up when she saw the bike we had bought her, but this was soon forgotten when she opened a smaller parcel containing Hama Beads.   Feast your Beady little eyes on these!!

We were given circular shaped pegboards and told to put the beads on them in a Christmassy pattern. I made the face of Father Christmas and was really proud of my design. I remember then being amazed when they ironed the design for us and removed the design from the pegboard and it stayed in one piece! For years we used my Father Christmas face as a Christmas tree decoration and this Christmas as I hung it on the tree I said to my dad that I hadn't seen the kits used to make them in years and would love to have a go! Advantages: Endless concentraion and fun
Disadvantages: a pain if the beads all fall out to clear up

...For ages 5 and over For my daughter's birthday (who is 8) her nan bought her this set of Hama Beads, something I had never seen or heard of before. The set is purchased individually and comprises of white bases which come in every shape imaginable. My daughter to begin with was given a star, heart, butterfly, giraffe, circle, camel and a square. The bases are made up of hundreds of little plastic prongs. With these bases you purchase the beads, they either come in tubs of 3000 mixed colour beads or you can but individual bags of 1000 which come in the same colour, allowing you to build up your collection of colours. The idea is to place the beads onto the plastic base prongs building up pictures. It is very fiddly and keeps the children sitting glued to it for hours, even myself was totally addicted sitting placing beads...

Keep the kids entertained for a while

Disadvantages: Take ages to pick up when they are dropped on the floor

...It is really difficult to write an opinion on lots of tiny pieces of plastic but as it keeps my little girl amused for hours on end (well maybe the odd half hour here and there - not an easy thing when you are nearly 6) so here goes: Hama beads are beads that come in three sizes – mini – 2.5mm in diameter (suitable from age 10), midi – 5mm in diameter (suitable from age 5) and maxi – 10mm (suitable from age 3). For the purposes of this opinion I am going to write about the mini beads which although the packet states Katie is too young to play with, she is more than capable of playing with them! The idea of Hama beads is that you place them onto different shaped peg boards to make pictures and then iron the beads (using the silicon paper provided between the iron and the beads) so that they stick together...

Is it supposedly called a stick or key or pen and I realized quickly that the client hadn't a Dickens what I was talking about. Sending the information via portable device was alien to his grey matter, he didn't know what a FlashPen was. He thought it was a writable fancy pen, so confusion contorted his face rather alarmingly. I quickly explained and thought not to go into the features as not to diverse to much from the original conversation. - I'm glad I didn't use the 'Hama' brand as I normally would for those who are at ease with portable devices.
