Wunderbar Hamburg Germany
Review of Hamburg (Germany) by
nickjj78
Advantages: Great lively city; great sights!!
Disadvantages: None really!
...Hamburg
Hamburg is the second largest city in Germany and has a rich and varied history and in the modern age is still world famous for it's port, tourist attractions and the Beatles in the 1960s as well as one of the recent James Bond films having been set here in the 1990s! I first visited Hamburg when I was six or seven and had family living over there and I am really pleased that I did as otherwise it is certainly one of those cities that you could easily miss and that would be a shame!
Hamburg is a great cosmopolitan city that will appeal to old and young alike. Perfect for couples who enjoy fine dining and shopping as well as perfect for families at the fairs and attractions.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Getting there:
Flights to Hamburg are relatively frequent. If you live in the North of England like me then direct...
Hamburg, Germany: great destination!
Review of Hamburg & surrounding area by
nickjj78
Advantages: Tons to do and see!
Disadvantages: None really!
...I APOLOGISE FOR THIS REVIEW AS I HAVE PLACED IT IN THE WRONG CATEGORY BUT HAVE ASKED CIAO TO MOVE IT TO HAMBURG CITY NOT WATER SPORTS. I HOPE YOU WILL FIND IT A USEFUL GUIDE TO THE CITY OF HAMBURG ONCE IT HAS BEEN MOVED FROM THE WATERPSPORTS SECTION
Hamburg and the surrounding area.
Hamburg is one of my absolute favourite cities to visit in the world and I have visited there just about every year for the last 20 odd years when family of mine moved over there.
It is the second largest city in Germany and located in the northern part of Germany.
How to get there?
Flights leave most UK cities several times a day and the most common airlines that fly are British Airways, British Midland and Lufthansa (the National German Airline). I fly regularly from Manchester to Hamburg using Lufthansa which is a great airline...
HAMBURG MARRIOTT HOTEL
Review of Marriott Hamburg Treudelberg, Hamburg by
nickjj78
Advantages: Lovely hotel, excellent rooms and service
Disadvantages: None really!
...~~~HAMBURG MARRIOTT HOTEL~~~
As well as having stayed at the Renaissance Hotel in Hamburg several times, I have also stayed at the Renaissance sister hotel, the Marriott, located on ABC Strasse in the exclusive shopping and dining part of the city of Hamburg. The hotel is well located and transfer time from the airport (Hamburg) is under 20 minutes or so with taxi fares also being under 20Euros (£13-£15). Just outside o f the hotel you will find a glittering array of upmarket shops and small boutiques and the hotel is located in a very quiet area and all of the rooms are exceptionally quiet.
Arriving at the hotel:
As you enter the hotel, the lobby is sumptuous and well-kept, and there are always plenty of bellhops to help with your bags. Check-in is always smooth and painless, and there is a good selection of local interest...
Hamburg means nightlife and more
Review of Hamburg (Germany) by
Daniela16
Advantages: Many young and nice people
Disadvantages: no one
...Hello again !
I know what I´m writing about, cause I´m a real "Hamburger" Girl.
This city is a city one must have seen !
The town hall called "Rathhaus", the Michel (the biggest church in Hamburg), the legendary "Reeperbahn" are all stations of a sightseeing tour.
I think all of you know the Reeperbahn. Maybe you know it as THE street of sex in Hamburg. But thats not right. Here are also many clubs and they are great. Here is music for everyone.
Whatever you what to hear in Hamburg is the right club, like 2-step(which is very successful at the moment), techno, hiphop or just pop.
But Hamburg has another site !
In Hamburg yoú will find the Alster. I´m not sure if it´s a river or not.
We also have great shopping miles. For example in the central of the city. The Mönkebergstraße and the Gänsemarkt are the most visited shopping miles...
Relax at the Renaissance Hamburg Hotel
Review of Renaissance Hamburg Hotel, Hamburg by
nickjj78
Advantages: Great location and friendly welcome
Disadvantages: None
...The Renaissance Hamburg Hotel is part of the worldwide Marriott chain and offers the excellent accommodations that you would expect from Marriott but with the flair that you would normally expect from the Renaissance team. As with other properties in this brand hotels are branded by Renaissance but owned and managed locally adding real local colour to the hotel.
Booking:
Book via the Marriott website, and they guarantee that you will get their cheapest rates (the best rate is usually from 110 euros (approx £60.00) per night) for a twin/double room. Many rates are available and most options come with or without breakfast.
There are single rooms and double rooms (i.e. 1 king bed or two doubles) that would accommodate 2 or 4 respectively. In addition, the corner Junior Suites offer additional space and more often than...
Hamburg - a city often missed!
Review of Hamburg (Germany) by
flashsweeney
Advantages: Easy to reach. Mixed culture
Disadvantages: Need to be relatively open minded
...in English!
The city is often overlooked by us brits in favour of the likes of Amsterdam. However, for something a little different try Hamburg. Cheap flights are available or you could cruise direct to Hamburg from the port at Harwich on a budget....
HAMBURGER UNION GARRICK STREET LONDON
Review of Hamburger Union, London by
Wisegirl
Advantages: FAST EFFICIENT SERVICE AND GOOD QUALITY PRODUCTS
Disadvantages: WOULD PREFER SEATING WITH BACKS RATHER THAN STOOLS
...Whilst on a short break in London last week my family and I were looking for somewhere to eat in the West end and came across HAMBURGER UNION in Garrick Street, Covent Garden. None of us are great fans of burger "joints" but decided that we would give it a try, as from the outside it looked modern and clean and although busy not bursting at the seams as some place are up there. Also it was great to go somewhere "non smoking".
On entering it reminded us of restaurants in America, as ,you order everything (food and drinks) at the counter, pay and then proceed into the main eating area and place your order number on the table for the server to see.
The seating area was clean and the seating was mainly stool type and tables were of varying sizes so if you were on a long table you could end up with other people. It was bright...
The Kate Winslet of Cities
Review of Hamburg (Germany) by
zoe_page
Advantages: Somewhere to practice my Deutsch
Disadvantages: Attitude; Attractions (or lack thereof)
...Airbrushed beyond belief to make it look better on paper than it is in real life.
I like cities where the airport is not that far removed from the city centre, so we were off to a flying start in Hamburg when less than half an hour after landing and €20 lighter we found ourselves a our hotel. Hamburg has a whole bunch of hotels and guest houses but we only stayed at one, the Radisson, and it was ok. Expedia and Opodo have good choices if you're choosing to book online (which, when you think about it, really is the only way to do it).
We spent 4 days in the city at the beginning of December, specifically timed to take in the Christmas markets. These take place at a few sites across the city from mid November until Christmas eve. The main ones are very centrally located, on the main squares near the town hall, and around...
Gateway to the World
Review of Hamburg Port by
Thiesy
Advantages: almost everything
Disadvantages: windy ;o)
...The port of Hamburg with all its beautiful faces that vary from the beautiful skyline, the impressive container port and the historic Warehouse Complex up to the quays where you can gaze at giant ships and big ocean liners is my most favourite place in my hometown and one of the reasons why I love to live here.
----The birthday of the port-----
7th of May 1189 is considered as the birthday of the port of Hamburg. This is the day when Emperor Barbarossa granted to the inhabitants of Hamburg " the privilege of duty-free shipping for Hamburg ships on the Elbe from the city to the North Sea.". Since then, Hamburg is the ‘gateway to the world', the most important German port and, at the same time, one of the world's leading seaborne cargo-handling centres and the most important overseas port for Scandinavia, Central...
A glorious town with so much to offer tourists.
Review of Hamburg (Germany) by
Si-Tunes
Advantages: Attractive city, great shopping, good restaurants
Disadvantages: Weather?
...Hamburg is an attractive city in North Germany. With a population of 1.8 million, it is second only to Berlin in size. It is also the biggest industrial city, with an area of 755 square kilometres. However, whilst the docks thrive with its busy trade the town has not been robbed of its natural beauty. I have been to many cities in Germany and whilst the majority are pleasant, I do find that some are quite similar. They have the same shops, basic shopping districts and a fairly typical atmosphere. However, Hamburg is very different and is extremely vibrant.
The origins of the city date back to the 9th century when 'Hammaburg' was founded. The river Elbe has always leant itself to the development of the impressive dock area. In 1189 the Emperor Friedrich Barbarossa distributed letters to all Hamburg citizens, which granted...
