Fantabulous! Glyndebourne's 'Giulio Cesare' 2005

Disadvantages: Nothing.

...Scotsman David McVicar has blazed a spectacular trail in his fabulous staging of this Baroque opera seria for the 2005 Glyndebourne Festival. His starting material is Georg Frideric Handel?s formidable, four-hour-long ?Giulio Cesare in Egitto? (?Julius Caesar in Egypt?; also known simply as ?Giulio Cesare?), with libretto by Nicola Francesco Haym, after Giacomo Grancesco Bussani?s work of the same name. The sheer length of the piece, with its typically Baroque musical da capo repeats of many verses can easily render this work into a completely boring and tedious affair. However, as you will see for yourself, ?boring? and ?tedious? will hardly apply to this particular staging as conceived by David McVicar and friends. Review of Giulio Cesare - Handel (DVD)

Too hot to Handel!

Advantages: Fleming is sublime, well sung throughout
Disadvantages: Live recording is slightly noticeable in places

...Despite being one of the most prolific composers of opera and very successful in his own time, Handel operas have remained largely neglected in the operatic repertoire until fairly recently with the Handel revival that began in the '60s. Because of this, if you're looking for recordings of Handel operas there are often not too many to choose from and to my knowledge there are only 3 recordings available of Alcina: one with Joan Sutherland in the title role, one with Renee Fleming, and one with Arleen Auger. Cesar's Way , Cesar Millan `The Dog Whisperer'.

Advantages: Very interesting insight into how your dogs mind works
Disadvantages: Not many actual methods of training described in the book

...When I first started watching Cesar Millan?s Dog Whisperer program on the National Geographic channel I became a bit obsessed with the program. I recorded every episode on my Sky+ Box and have now seen them all. So I am a big fan. As soon as this book arrived in the post I started to read it that very night. I couldn?t put it down!! Such a great read. It probably helped that I am a big fan of Cesar anyway. But it does give you a great insight into how your dog sees the world and you. This is a `Dog Psychology? book, looking at how your dog actually sees the world. Whereas a `Dog Training? book? would look more at teaching your dog commands. Both have there place. Cesar: Bad spelling, worse smelling, but great.

Advantages: My pampered pooch loves it.
Disadvantages: A little more expensive than most. Only suitable for small dogs.

...months ago, we came across Cesar, and thought we'd give it a go. The results were amazing. As soon as we put the food in his bowl, he had his nose burried in it, and even licked the bowl after he'd finished. (I get told off for doing that - so how come the dog gets away with it?) We have yet to find a flavour of Cesar that Bobby doesn't like, and (now, this is really really sad - and I apologise in advance) just like in the adverts, we've put a bowl of an alternative type of dog food next to Cesar, and there was just no contest. Bobby didn't even look at the other dog food. Our dog loves the stuff, and although it's a little bit more expensive than your usual brands, and the smell of some of the wierd and wonderful flavours tend to linger round the kitchen for an hour or so, it's worth it just to see how grateful Bobby is after he...

MY DOGS CHOOSE CESAR

Advantages: they like it
Disadvantages: pricey, terrible wind

...I have two dogs one medium size and one small size not that this makes a blind bit of difference when it comes to feeding time at the zoo. Over many years we have tried every type of dog food you can imagine, canned, dried, fresh cooked meat, left overs you name it, we have tried it. Without any doubt in my mind my dogs favorite dinner is cesar, they are not fussy about what flavour they have, I have tried tricking them just in case they are intelligent enough to reconise what tin im opening, but no these dogs definately know what they like. There are two draw backs with cesar as far as i am concerned, number 1 being price, it is so dame expensive in comparison with other dog meats. Never mind we will give our pets what they want. Disadvantages: Not good for those who want a quick fix.

...I think that 'Cesar's Way' is a very reliable source for rehabilitating dogs. At first, I thought some parts of the text were irrelevant (because I wanted a quick fix) but as I read and applied his methods I came to understand that they are as important as the tips. The personal stories portray the situation first, allowing the reader to relate in some way, then Millan explains why the dog is acting a certain way. He tells you how to identify the problem, consider your options of dealing with it and then how to apply it depending on your situation. The emphasis is on how much time the human is willing to put in and when humans choose to live with dogs there is a commitment beyond the animal being a pet. The owner has to understand how their behaviour is affecting their dogs and act accordingly. The one negative point is that it...

A puppy dogs tale

Initially we fed her pedigree puppy food which is softer and more easily digested by small puppies, now she has switched to Cesar which seems to be suiting her very well. The reason we chose Cesar is because our last dog Tara which we lost a few months ago was a fussy dog and she liked Cesar. Cesar comes in different categories for different sized dogs. ...Cesar - for man eaters who rip your throat out? No, the key thing is the missing letter 'A' in C(a)esar - less the emperor of the world than a little yappy thing. When I tell you that this stuff started out as 'Mr Dog' I think you get the picture... Cesar is a dog food that comes in either tins or plastic containers with peel off lids and it's exclusively for the smaller breed of dogs as it includes a special yap proof ingredient...either that or a sound little kick to the abdomen should do the trick. Mrs D is a big lover of the cairn terrier (very, very suspicious if you ask me, and even if you don't, still extremely sus) and so we get through a lot of this odd little delicacy. Review of Serse - Handel (aka Xerxes) (DVD)

Because they're worth it

Advantages: popular with our dog, range of flavours
Disadvantages: fairly expensive

...Everyone who loves their dog's will want to keep them happy and healthy which means choosing a suitable dog food which he/she will enjoy. That's why i chose Cesar. Cesar dog food comes in eithe tins or foil packets and my dog definitely prefers the foiled Cesar. Although these are quite expensive (around 60p each), a small dog shouldn't need more than one a day, so it's not too expensive when you work it all out. The Cesar packets come in a variety of different flavours (some with veg in). I think one of the reasons our dog likes it is that the chunks of meat are in jelly which adds to the flavour of them i suppose! We actually give our dog half a pouch a day mixed with a few handfulls of mixer, which he also loves!...
