Hanoi
Advantages: Still maintains a lot of its original character
Disadvantages: very busy and chaotic traffic
...Hanoi is the capital city of Vietnam and is situated in the North of the country.
We did a tour of Vietnam from North to south summer 2007 with a company I found on the internet. www.selectiveasia.com and I dealt with a man called Nick who was extremely helpful all along the decision making and booking process.
I organized my own flights to Bangkok then from Bangkok to Hanoi with an Asian airline again on the internet www.airasia.com but there may be others, it is worth searching around.
We arrived late in Hanoi and we met by our guide Thuy (pronounced two ee) who was a delightful young man about 24 years old. His parents were teachers and had lived through the Vietnam War, Thuy was too young to remember, he said. It was great to have a guide just for us as we were able to ask all kinds of quite personal questions which Thuy was...

Hanoi - the sweet home town of mine
Advantages: It's a peaceful city with many beautiful sceneries
Disadvantages: there are not so many places for entertaining
...Hanoi is the capital of Vietnam (in the Southest Asia). It is located in the north of the country and has the population of more than 3 million people. Hanoi is almost 1000 years old (995 years old actually). The city is beautiful and people here are very friendly.
+++ THE WEATHER +++
- Hanoi has 4 different seasons: autumn, spring, summer and winter (unlike Ho Chi Minh city: only dry and rainy season). However, I think the most beautiful time of the year is in the autumn. Everything is so nice: streets are filled with leaves; the smell of milk flowers follows as you walk down some streets, the weather is cool - with gently sunshine ... It's just the best time of the year.
- Because the Vietnamese celebrate the Lunar New Year (same as China, Korea and Japan) - they call it "Tet" - so it'd be great if you come to Vietnam in...

Bangkok Shocks, Saigon Shakes, Hanoi Rocks...live
Advantages: pure rock and roll
Disadvantages: a bit dated by modern tastes
...Axl Rose once admitted that the only reason that Guns n' Roses became successful was because of the void in the market that had been left empty by the demise of Hanoi Rocks. There may be other reasons for the formers success but it is easy to see Hanoi Rocks as the instigators of a whole glam/hard rock scene that spawned not only Axls band but the likes of Faster Pussycat, Bang Tango and L.A Guns. Managing to mix a glam image, hard rock cool and a punk attitude, Hanoi rocks posed and preened their way from being a small time Finnish novelty to darlings of the British rock scene and finally to a global super group. Studio albums never seemed to do justice to the powerhouse of energy that drove the band, but their live shows were a otherworldly experience, an ultimate high of pure adrenalin and 1985s "All those Wasted Years" went some way...

Hanoi - Too Seedy For Me
Advantages: Value of money, something different!
Disadvantages: Not for everyone!
....99 and is GOOD. And so it came to pass on that day that I glanced at the H section, looking for a H-Blockx CD actually, when I cam across the Hanoi Rocks section. Fortunately no-one noticed my foul jubilations, so I wiped the offensive dragon-tears from the CD casings and fished out the least damp of the little musical discs. The cover caught my attention with its simple background ? white with red roses tiled all over it, and the words ?HANOI ROCKS ? Decadent Dangerous Delicious? in black text over the top of the flowers.
2 discs. £10.99.
Was I in the right shop? Yes. The sticker at the top left of the casing also made me smile, reading as it did (and still does) ?2 CD set ? The best of Hanoi Rocks featuring exclusive new interviews. FILE UNDER SLEAZE/JUNK?. Me like junk. Me like sleaze. Me pay money and leg it home.

Good morning Vietnam
Advantages: Cheap, Central location, Friendly staff
Disadvantages: Noisy
...We Flew into Hanoi from Hong Kong and stayed at this hotel. This an be booked through the Hostelworld website. We got a taxi journey from the airport whch cost us 10USD to the hotel. Our flight arrived in Hanoi just after 9am and the taxi journey was around 40mins and we were allowed to check in upon arrival which is always pleasing.
The hotel -
Upon first impressions the hotel was a pleasent one. The Hotel staff were extremley friendly upon our arrival and spoke excellent english, which was useful as we spoke little Vietnamese.
The room itself had a
- Huge double bed,
- Mini bar fridge (which is cheaper then the local shop)
- Bath/Shower
- TV with many channels
- Free Breakfest
- Free Fruit in your room
- Free internet
Thankfully as well the hotel offered a full laundry service which was badly needed after spending...

Street Poets from Finland
Advantages: An upbeat album featuring a few tracks of Glam Rock glory.
Disadvantages: Some of the tracks fast become really rather irritating.
...Having formed in Finland way back in 1979 and split up in 1985 after the death of their drummer, Hanoi Rocks reformed in 2002 and are now very much making the most of their second wind. It is an interesting one that a band should reform nearly twenty years on, however I am very glad that they did as since returning they have released a further three albums of varying quality. 'Street Poetry' is the latest album from Hanoi Rocks and was given its release through Demolition Records in the UK in September 2007.
Although only two of the original band members remain in the band, those being vocalist Michael Monroe and guitarist Andy McCoy; you should not let this fact put you off as Hanoi Rocks are still making some great music. Featuring the single 'Fashion' which went straight to Number 1 when released in Finland, 'Street Poetry' is...

Another Vietnam
Advantages: weather more temperated than in south
Disadvantages: colder people
...At the end of my presence in Vietnam I could return in Hanoi.
In spite of/ its statute of capital this city is less populated that Saigon.
CLIMATE
Moderate, the north of Vietnam possessed 3 saisons. My trip occured at the end of May.
General impressions:
magnificent green Rice fields , one can see almost everywhere from the road the fieldsworkers men and women crouched down to plant rice or by pair with the help of big baskets with pendulums drawing water in the channels to send it in the fields of rice.
All women carry here the cone and the men the viet green military colonial helmet .Contraste astonishing of the colors with the south dry at this very moment of the year.
Poverty is here more important than in the south.
Food, and lodging seems cheaper than in Saigon but clothes...

Hang Around
Advantages: Exciting, Chaotic And Delightful.
Disadvantages: Leaving Town.
...Hanoi is often the first taste of Vietnam that many tourists get and if you were to go by first impressions your stay there would probably be a short one. Hanoi is the capital of the north and can be a little overwhelming. The city is overrun by motorbikes which makes the task of crossing the road an arduous one. Add to this the thousands of touts flogging every product imaginable and you have a cocktail of noise and interruption. In saying all this it is hard not to love the place.
For a city of 3,500,000 million people the pollution levels are nowhere on the scale of, say, Bangkok. Hoan Kiem lake in the middle of the Old Quarter (where most tourists base themselves) and is a beautiful place to relax and ignore the cavalcade of engines that buzz all around in every direction.
Getting into the city from the airport couldn't be...

Accomodation and things to see
Advantages: Good for sight seeing.
Disadvantages: traffic
...We first arrived in Hanoi from Moscow after a 2 day delay. We picked an expensive hotel at $25 for a room for 2 but it had a great balcony on the third floor that overlooked the old quarter. You could do worse than treat yourself on arrival.
One thing that stuck on arrival was the bicycle and motorbike traffic. There is an art to crossing the road. The best way to just to walk slowly across and the riders weave in and out of pedestrians. This does not work with larger vehicles as they only deviate for larger vehicles!
The main sites to see that I would recommend are situated in two areas; around the central lake and north Hoi Chi Minh’s mausoleum. Around the lake are general places to eat and drink which makes it a good place to start. The pagoda in the centre of the lake is well worth a visit, as is the water puppets nearby...

Nha Trang, over developed.
Advantages: clean beaches with white sands
Disadvantages: High rises, over-development
...Nha Trang is located on the south central Vietnam coast and is one of the country's largest and best known beach resorts-for foreign and domestic tourists alike. However, whilst the beaches are still beautiful strips of white sand unfortunately the town has given into large scale development and can feel like any other international beach resort with high rises running along the coastal front.
Reaching Nha Trang is simple with a domestic airport serving locations across Vietnam. Taxis are around 250,000 dong into the town centre and a bus also runs. The city is also a main stop on Vietnam's railway line running from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh. Buses connect the town to just about anywhere in the country and the bus station is a 15 minute walk from the centre at 58, 23 Thang 10. Many tourist buses drop and pickup from the town centre and...
