A Han-dy Choice for Chinese

Advantages: Great food, fair prices, good service
Disadvantages: Nothing I can think of

...I'm sure everyone - well everyone who likes Chinese - probably has a favourite Chinese restaurant that they keep returning to. For the area where we live - between Northampton and Market Harborough - the Han is our Chinese of choice. It's located in the small Leicestershire market town of Market Harborough and you can find it on St Mary's Road. For those who know the town, it's the road which runs from the Market Square towards the railway station. With the Square behind you, pass the new Starbucks on the left hand side and it's just a hundred meters or so further along. From the outside your first instincts might be that it doesn't look that much like a restaurant. This is because the Han is on two levels and you will only be able to see the downstairs reception area. Here there are sofas and coffee tables where people usually wait...

WONDERFUL WONDERFUL HANS CHRISTIAN ANDERSEN

Advantages: Gloriously colourful, wonderful songs
Disadvantages: Perhaps not for the older children

...Looking through the umpteen titles of family films, I was amazed that nobody has mentioned Hans Christian Andersen. Certainly it is the one that stands out in my childhood memories and I wonder how many modern mums still sing the song of the Ugly Duckling to their children or read them the tale of The Red Shoes. Made in l952 the film has retained a childlike innocence with Danny Kaye playing the part of Andersen to perfection, indeed I was surprised when I saw a painting of Hans Christian Andersen to see just how alike the two are. The film is not meant to be a biography, but is merely a fairy tale about a storyteller. Colourful costumes and fantasy backlots set the first scene with Hans the cobbler, singing merrily to the children of Odense who are so enthralled by his tales that they skip school. HanShing Cam 6.6 Megapixel

Advantages: Looks good, nice webcam (in daylight)
Disadvantages: Problems switching it on, poor quality pictures

...think about trying to take a picture with flash now because it wont work. 2 mins later the battery bar will read full again, then 1 again, then full, very annoying. 6.6 megapixel?? NOOOO more like 2.0. The quality is terrible, godness knows why it has 6.6 megapixel written on the back (although its good for showing your friends that you have a 6.6, if its written on the back it must be true!.. hmm) The screen on the back is good, very clear picture. As for the camera its very bulky, looked ok a year ago, not now. I payed 50 odd pounds for this thinking I was getting a good quality camera, in future im sticking to well known brands, I wouldnt touch HanShing cameras again....

A couple of unlikely heroes dressed for a daring rescue !

Advantages: Great action figures from a memorable Star Wars scene ... detailed and highly colectable !!!

...Introduction It is rare that a poorly translated book would get such a high rating from me. Translated from the original German by Anthea Bell, I can only presume that she is way past retirement age, because the language that she uses is so old-fashioned, for example, referring to a mistress as 'a bit of stuff'. However, I enjoyed the story so much that the translation, although it bugged me a little, didn't seem to matter so much. I'm looking forward to reading more by this author; hopefully the translation will be better and will further add to my enjoyment. Either that or I'm going to have to brush up my German? The author Hans Werner Kettenbach was born in Cologne. He didn't start writing until quite late in life, he was in his 50s when his first novel was published. Eximius Pax (Yep, THAT good!)

Advantages: Modern-classical music that'll suit all occasions - from a relaxing bath to a vigorous workout.
Disadvantages: Most of the best tracks can be found on classical compilation albums, and the themes have been overused in trailers/ads on TV.

...As is always the way, Hans Zimmer failed to collect the Academy Award for Best Original Score in 2001 for GLADIATOR, which remains one of his most accomplished, and varied, soundtrack scores to date. This album represents a blend of Zimmer's thunderous classical style as heard in CRIMSON TIDE (1995) and THE PEACEMAKER (1997) with the softer toned, African-inspired, beats he was to use later in BLACK HAWK DOWN (2001). These details are academic as it's Lisa Gerrard's vocals contribution which hauls GLADIATOR out of the general soundtrack mire of short-burst orchestral brass, nails-down-a-blackboard string vibrato and big-booted themes that go on... And on... And on... Incessantly, until using the CD as a frisbee would be preferable to listening to it again! That's the problem with Hans Zimmer, as a composer - he's great and one...
