Reviews of hard disk 80gb
The disk of the 1980's!
Review of Imation Corp. Floppy disk 1.44 MB by
pcman18
Advantages: Compact
Disadvantages: Small 1.44MB storage space
...PHONES NEAR FLOPPY DISKS
Floppy disks are very expensive with some costing up to 50p or more each. At Uni they cost £1 for ONE. Lets use 20p as an example price per disk and say the standard hard drive is 80GB (which it roughly is now) it would cost £11959.12 to buy 80GB in floppy disks, when you can get an 80GB hard drive for about £40.
Consider other alternatives for example, and which will save money in the long run
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
700MB CD-R's. Costs about £10 per pack of 100.
10p per disk. Costs £11.70 for 80GB, but each disk can only be written on once.
700MB CD-RW's. Costs about £10 per pack of 25.
40p per disk. Costs £46.81 for 80GB, but each disk can be written on again and again.
256MB USB Flash Disk. The prices range from £12 - £75 depending on the size...

Firelite 80GB Ext HD REVIEW - A great buy
Review of SmartDisk FireLite Hard drive 80 GB by
johnny12345
Advantages: small, fast, looks great, large storage capacity for size
Disadvantages: None
...The Firelite 80GB external harddrive incorporates large storage space and a small sized unit perfectly.
Powered by USB/USB2 - with no requirement for a seperate power adapter, files can be effectively backed up quickly. Accessing files is also easy - a use the drive to store videos and music - it handles them both well.
The device is no bigger than a hand and looks great. The neon blue light on the top indicates that the device is active.
It is as simple as plug-n-play. There is no requirement to close/shutdown the device when finished - just unplug.
Additional file storage space is useful - especially to laptop owners - laptops not generally having huge storage capacities. Backing files up is also effective when safeguarding important files - the firelite doing this quickly and simply.
Overall a great buy....

Hitachi TravelStar, What a Star
Review of Hitachi TravelStar 7K100 100 GB by
lowerboscadjack
Advantages: Quite, low power consumption, high capacity
Disadvantages: Expensive
...I have been using a Hitachi TravelStar for a long time now, I have had not problems with it and I have given it a good run for the price I paid for it.
I originally started out with the 80gb model of this hard disk. I had absolutely no problems with it. (I now have the 100gb model as the laptop it was in was broken in a car accident).
I had the 80gb model for a year and never gave me any trouble. It was:
· Fast
· Reliable
· Quite
· Super low power consumption
· Had a quick spin up time
· Very quick seek time
· Standard 5 year warranty
· Very helpful warranty/customer support
Hitachi's customer warranty claims support is like no other that I have come across before. You go onto there website, fill out a warrant claim form; package the device (hard disk in my case) in the way they require. Once you have sent it to them and they receive...

The wonders of the Hitachi Deskstar
Review of Hitachi DeskStar 7K80 80 GB by
lowerboscadjack
Advantages: Reliable, Quick, Quite, Good value for money
Disadvantages: Not a very high capasity
...If you are looking for an 80 GB hard disk for your PC, you have found the one to buy! I have been using 2 of these Hitachi Deskstar's in my PC for a long time now. I have had no problems with them. For the price you pay to buy one, you are getting cheap and reliable hard disk, witch has a good capacity to price ratio (around 2GB per pound).
I would recommend this hard disk to anyone whom it is making up a new computer, or just needs more storage space.
This hard disk is probable one of the quickest disks I have used, its read speed is good, but I must say, the SATA (serial ATA) version is about twice as quick, but for them that don't intend to go down the path of SATA Can just stick with the ATA-100 version (or IDE as it is more commonly known).
Instillation of this disk is like every other hard disk on this planet, if you know what...

Best MP3 by far
Review of Apple iPod 80 GB Black by
chowson
Advantages: Very easy to use and looks great
Disadvantages: Expensive to invest in it
...- Good buy, definitely worth the money.
- Looks good in black
- Recharge time is quite quick
- Battery lasts longer than previous generations and video doesn't drain the battery too badly, lasts about 2 hours of continuous video
- Very easy operation, I was already was using iTunes so all I had to do was plug in the iPod and it automatically synchronised
- Easy to update, just need to connect the iPod
- Good screen quality for videos and pictures.
- Use as Hard Disk very useful, you can use it as an MP3 player and as a portable mass storage device up to 80GB.
- No problems as of yet (after 9 months)
Would not buy any other MP3 product because the iPod's looks and ease of use is far superior to any other product I have tried!...

Maxtor does it again... Bravo!
Review of Maxtor DiamondMax 10 250 GB by
mattyprice4004
Advantages: Very fast, reliable and quiet... and Cheap!
Disadvantages: Absolutely nothing!
...Maxtor have been there since the beginning of the home PC - They were making 100MB hard disks 12 years ago that are just as good as their 400GB+ disks today.
I have always liked the combination of price and reliability Maxtor drives have offered. You can pick up a Maxtor disk for £10-£15 cheaper on average than you can other manufacturers. My first Maxtor disk was a monstrously big 10GB disk back in 1999, and since then I have truly been hooked.
Never once has a Maxtor disk failed on me, or had any indication of doing so. SMART status on all of my drives has always been 100%, and that 10GB disk is still happily sat in a USB enclosure on top of my PC.
Anyway, with the 80GB Maxtor DiamondMax 9 I have been using as my Primary disk for over 3 years getting a bit on the full side, I decided it was time for an upgrade. I wanted a disk...

Cheap but not very stable
Review of Seagate Barracuda ATA IV 80 GB by
beanp-271
Advantages: Cheap, fast, big storage amount
Disadvantages: Unreliable so regularly back up your files
...I was looking online for a new hard drive, to replace my old Maxtor one, when i found some very cheap Seagate Barracuda ATA IV 80GB drives for sale, and bought 2, for under £20. They were bth fully working, and i fitted them straight away, as altogether it was a storage capacity of 8 times more than my Maxtor hard drive, and the spindle speed was higher as well. I installed Windows XP without any problems at all, onto one of the drives, and used the other as a secondary drive to put my work files on. For a couple of months, i was happy, as I had spotted a bargain and the hard drives were fully workin, until the secondary drive just vanished, and wouldn't boot at all, no power would go to it and I ahd lost all my work files. So i carried on with the one 80GB drive, and installed my 20GB again for extra storage space. And then about...

Seagate Comes Out Top... Again!
Review of Seagate Momentus 5400.2 ST94813A 40 GB by
mattyprice4004
Advantages: Fast, Quiet and Efficient
Disadvantages: None
...I bought this drive as a temporary solution whilst I saved for a 100GB Seagate Momentus. It cost me a tiny £37.59, but proved to punch well above it's wieght for the money.
Firstly, lets look at the speed of this drive. It easily beats my desktop PCs backup slave drive, a 40GB Hitachi Deskstar. It also thrashed my 80GB Toshiba 2.5" hard disk in my other laptop (!) which cost me £75!
So the drive is up to the performance of even larger dirves, but what about the noise levels? Thankfully, noise is non-existent with the Momentus.
All that is audible is the occasional seek, but nothing much compared to the 80GB Toshiba 2.5" laptop hard disk. You can hear that on idle, and every tiny movement it makes is clearly audible. A real nightmare when you're trying to concentrate on a really important piece of coursework, or trying to enjoy some...

Seagate keep up their standards... As usual!
Review of Seagate Barracuda 7200.9 80 GB by
mattyprice4004
Advantages: Fast, Quick and Very Cheap!
Disadvantages: Can't think of anything at all!
...When building a cheap and cheerful Internet browsing PC for a friend, 80GB of storage seemed easily enough. After some browsing I discovered the Seagate Barracuda 7200.9 80GB, and found that it covers all the important points when buying a hard disk.
An excellent and comprehensive 5 Year warranty was provided as standard, which certainly leads to a lot of peace of mind. Hard disks always seem to be the weakest link within Home PCs, so it is always nice to see a manufacturer putting faith into a non-enterprise level product.
The large 2MB Cache also attracted me to the Seagate, and the low price tag was the final decider for me. A day later I had the Seagate installed in the PC ready for its first boot. The PC in question is a fairly standard box - an AMD Sempron 2800+, 256MB of DDR RAM and a Gigabyte motherboard. The hard disk worked...

One word - excellent!
Review of Samsung SpinPoint P80SD Hard drive 80 GB by
prosser13
Advantages: Fast, quiet, cheap
Disadvantages: None!
...After having problems with my Seagate 7200.7 200GB, I decided to replace it with a smaller drive just for Windows. I bought a Samsung Spinpoint 80GB in the sales and installed it.
Inital thoughts
The drive is well packed in a plastic case and a manual as well as a jumper to set SATA 150. The manual is two very small pages, with a couple of pictures and some writing. The manual guides you through how to make the hard drive SATA I compatible, how to install the drive and how to make your computer detect the hard drive. Its simple but everything is explained well - it could have a bit more explanation on why you may need to make the drive SATA I instead of SATAII.
Installation
I screwed the drive into my 3.5" bay, plugged in the SATA power and connection cable switched on my PC and put in the Windows disk - Windows setup detected...
