...This is a pretty standard USB HD but with a whopping 500GB for under £100 it is amazing value for money. So far I've had no problems with it. I run mostly audio/graphics from it (which is very demanding). This HD has no problems dealing with the big files I Use, providing an excellent transfer rate. It is pretty quiet, the only noise it ever makes is a slight hum! I carry this every where I go with my laptop, it's taken a few knocks and survived OK, but I wouldn't want to test it too much, as the case doesn't look like it would protect the drive too well! The design is pretty funky and its size isn't too big either! I've had big portable drives before which were a pain to transport! this fits into my laptop bag perfectly! ...I used many Hard Drives drives until this one and I'm finally satisfied. As a multitasking user i open many programs at the same time: antivirus, internet, multiple downloads, winamp and even gaming at the same time and often I even game sometimes and this hdd really does a good job. The 500GB (470 Gb actually) are sufficient for storage and comes at a very decent price. The wd are really reliable , I had a small problem but it was my fault, I've insanely overclocked the processor and I the hdd drive partitions didn't appear. I've recovered eventually the data without loss. It works still great. The transfer rates are insane: 80 Mb max at data read and 75 Mb max at data write, about 13 ms access time. The temperatures are pretty hot in summer, I recommend cooler. Stability: 4 full days of massive downloads, in summer is enough for you... Read review

...I've used a similar model for a long time and I have mixed opinions about 7200.10 hard drives. The good things of Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 Seagate hdd are the most stables drives in the market, I've used my drive for quite a time and never experienced a single problem. Large capacity, 500 Gb is more than enough (470 real) Good speed, especially at writing data, but also at reading excepting multiple file copy. Speed is about 70-80 Mb at large files The access time is about 13-14ms (about the same as other hdd) Temperature IS OK. Very stable and reliable The not so good things: Multitasking read performance. While on single thread the performance is high, 70 Mb, while increasing the threads, many aplications used the speed drops at about 5-10 Mb A little noisy especially when many aplications are used Conclusion. ...This is my second hard drive. The first one I bought was a sony vaio that I bought off of ebay - a portable 120GB hard disk drive from the far east. It started giving me disk read and write errors about three to four months after I bought it. Moral of the story, buy from a reputable manufacturer and seller. So I bought this from Amazon co uk, who are by far a superior online seller. Prices have come down and i managed to get this for £60 including free delivery. The drive is compact, not portable. It needs to be plugged into mains as well as the computer which makes it less portable, but it is so quiet I can't even hear that is switched on even when it is writing or reading. ...I've bought two of these drives now and am very impressed. On opening the box you'll find the following: The drive itself, power supply, USB cable and an instruction leaflet. The drive feels solid and well built, although the aluminium case does have some sharp edges near the front where it joins the plastic bezel. The drive comes formatted to FAT32, but this is easily changed to NTFS. Being a curious sort, I took one apart to find out the manufacturer of the actual drive inside and was happy to find a Seagate Barracuda, not the bottom of the range drive I was expecting! Installation under Windows XP/Vista is a doddle, just plug in the power cable, plug in the USB cable, switch it on and it's automatically detected and ready to go. ...I recently bought one of these hardrives for around £60. So far, this hard drive has not given any problems what so ever. The physical size of the hard drive is not very big, so chances are you can find a place close to your PC tower to put it. The hard drive also dosnt weigh much so it is also fine to carry it around if you wish to connect it to a laptop. It's got a very smart look and feels quite sturdy, unlike some other hardrives that feel like cheap plastic. Data transfer rates is very good indeed. It is not the fastest since it uses a USB 2.0 connection to transfer files. Anything faster would be something with a firewire connection. Value for money is also very good, 500 GB of memory for £60 and free delivery to your doorstep is indeed quite the bargain at this point in time. We all know things get cheaper as technology... ...My personal experience with the Xbox 360 hard drive has been fairly positive. The ability to store music, films, videos and of course games saves is one that no Xbox gamer should be without. 120 GB of memory is more than enough for the average gamer. The hard drive is well designed to blend with the console perfectly. It is small and easy to store. However the price is pretty heavy compared to the cheaper 20GB versions. A problem with the memory is the fact that the hard drive does not actually have 120GB, obviously it wouldn't be exactly due to the need for the running files but several GB are actually missing. Regular cleaning is advised as dust tends to collect on the hard drive but a sharp blow into the docking port is sufficient to clear this. All in all this product is an incredibly useful addition to any Xbox 360 gamers arsenal... Read review

...This is a very fast performer as it claims to be and is good value for money, though the fast transfer rate should not in itself be enough to warrant the quite hefty price tag of over 100 pounds. Design I always do prefer silver boxed hard drives or for that matter anything in silver since it seems so much more elegant with its metallic aluminium silver shine. So this small desktop storage unit gets my top marks for design and build quality. It's a solid hard drive and can be stacked easily and stored easily too. .... This is a serious buy, its not that much slower than enterprise hard drives like raptors. Raptors spin faster (10k rpm vs 7.2k rpm) and have lower latency but these benefits hardly show up to the average user at home and the drawbacks of much less HD capacity (36gb for the price of one of these western digital 500gb HDs) and also the running temp and noise of raptors are enough to warrent a purchase of the WD 500gb hard drive over any Raptor. Seeing as raptors are out of the Question (in my own opinion, although others will agree with me) you could go for something cheaper, but like i said, as you go down in price the value goes down a lot. For about 15 pounds less you end up with much slowers drives that dont have much capacity. These drives deserve an award for such performance price ratio as well as capacity price ratio....
