Need An External HD?
Review of Buffalo DriveStation TurboUSB HD-HS750U2 750 GB by
Surj1
Advantages: 750GB, 7200rpm, Hi-Speed USB, Very reliable & Easy To Use
Disadvantages: None
...The Buffalo Drive Station Turbo USB HD-HS750U2 750 GB is a very useful external hard drive. I have networked computers so use it for back up and storage, which makes it easy for the networked computers to access the same data from one unit.
The unit itself is well designed and looks good, its basically just going to sit next to your computer and is just a shell for the hard drive inside and for that it looks quite cool. The dimensions of the unit is 1.8" (w), 6.4" (d), 7.9" (h) and it weighs around 1.5kg.
The external hard drive lets you back up and easily access various stored files and folders without taking up room on your PC's main hard drive. This is based on the SATA hard drive technology which is for larger capacity and with turbo USB technology, The hard drives transfer rate is much more than those of standard USB hard drives...

It'll work fine i promise :)
Review of Iomega MiniMax Desktop Hard Drive Hard drive 750 GB by
thewhitewolf
Advantages: very efficient and space-saving
Disadvantages: no back-up files
...Its amazing how two drives look exactly the same but one has far more storage space! I reviewed the 500GB version of this model, and so will review this 750GB version.
Design
The portable hard drive comes in an attractive silver case that has USB2 and FireWire 400 ports. It is a fully functional travel companion and easily fits into a rucksack or laptop bag. This is feasable because it weighs relatively little and is easy to handle.
Installation
The instructions were easy to follow and it installed by windows wizard as soon as i plugged it in, so within 20 minutes i was backing up my files.
Performance
Performance is good for a portable hard disk, and there was no real difference in speed between the two interfaces.
Features
It doesn't ship with backup software, just file-synchronisation software, but this serves a similar...

A Good Buy
Review of Iomega Desktop Hard Drive Professional Series Triple Interface 750 GB by
thewhitewolf
Advantages: lots of space
Disadvantages: none
...This is a bargain that i couldn't pass up without buying. 750GB's should keep me going for several years and more.
I bought this hard drive for £101 and it has been a pleasure to use. It's a doddle to set up and install and the fast rate of transfer makes file sharing very efficient and easy.
Design
The portable hard drive comes in an attractive silver case that has USB2 and FireWire 400 ports. It is a desktop drive and cant really be moved around due to its size.

albie4fay

...My computer will never be the same again! After installing it I could already notice a major difference. I upgraded from a 250gb WesternDigital to the 750 gb Seagate Barracuda.
Product Specification:
Type: - Internal Hard drive
Form Factor: 3.5" x 1/3H

PROS/CONS:
Although most people wont need a hardrive this size to do the basics of any office applications or internet use. This hard drive is for the people who run network drives and do alot of video editing and the like.
Just make sure you remove the jumper before you use it as this limits it to standard SATA speed and is fitted by default. The storage capacity is brilliant and access...

750 for £130!!!
Review of Western Digital My Book Premium Edition WDG1C7500 750 GB by
thewhitewolf
Advantages: enormous size, super fast
Disadvantages: none to mention
...750GB for £130 is an unbelievable offer, a real bargain.
This hard drive is very similar in look and feel to the other Passport versions that Western Digital has, in particular the Book with a glowing yellow circle that is very nice to look at and quite heavy to boot.
I needed another external harddrive as my desktops space was almost gone from storing far too many games as you can imagine! I had the dreaded 'low on disk space' warning on my computer for a good while before i found a hard drive that i liked that offered my requirements in a nice handy little white box.
Design
Its presented in a big box, and I was very relieved (and also surprised) to see how small it actually is! At 8cm in width, by 1.5 in height and 13 cm in depth, the passport fails to take up much space on your desk or on top of your pc tower. Its a miniscule 105...

750GB is so MUCH!
Review of Western Digital My Book Pro Edition WDG1T7500 750 GB by
thewhitewolf
Advantages: So much space with very fast connectivity
Disadvantages: none
...to be surprisingly fast. Access time was very quick, 12ms per second seek time, so within the hour i had backed up and transferred my files!. I have had no trouble streaming games and movies from my hard disk, with access to files within the disk is as instant as a normal hard disk drive.
It can be stored on it's side, or standing up right. They can also be stacked, if 750gb isn't enough for you! There is a circular light around the on/off button to indicate that the device is on, and also that disk access is being made. During powerdown of your computer, the hard disk will automatically turn off, so there is no need to turn it off yourself.
The unique Capacity Gauge LED is extremely useful as it tells me how much space is left without me having to check o my pc.
They can be easily knocked over, so if you're untidy like me, then clean up your work area...

A pleasing proposition
Review of Iomega Desktop Hard Drive Value Series Hard drive 750 GB by
thewhitewolf
Advantages: a good alternative product
Disadvantages: n/a
...A better looking model from Iomega than the 500 GB model, this is a safe solid bet for a hard drive that won't let you down. In testing it performed well and did not overheat or become slow due to the rate of transfer.
Design
The portable hard drive comes in an attractive silver case that has USB2 and FireWire 400 ports. It's about 20 cms long and 10 in depth and weighs a fair bit. It is a desktop drive and can't really be moved around due to its size.

Max-crap!
Review of Maxtor OneTouch 4 750 GB by
hackersupr
Advantages: Good software, price, looks.
Disadvantages: Fails in a day.
...will be prompted to reboot your computer after which the drive will be fully functional.
Features:
The drive does not feature 750GB as advertised but 699GB but those of you who have bought hard drives will know that manufacturers measure the amount of space differently and you always get slightly less than advertised. It comes with Maxtor software and manuals preloaded on the drive which take up around 200MB of space which can be removed if you don't want it. It also comes with a 5 year (limited) warranty so I thought this thing would last me a while.
The software that comes with the drive is called Maxtor Manager and has three basic functions. Firstly you can check the amount of free space that your drive has (you can also do this through the My Computer section of your PC), you can also run a drive check to make sure your drive is functioning...

Iomega Pro Hard Drive - triple interface is great
Review of Iomega Desktop Hard Drive Professional Silver Series Hard drive 500 GB by
davomrmac
Advantages: Build quality, good brand, lots of connection choices
Disadvantages: Medium speed
...Storage is all important, whether you need it for your day-to-day work, or for backing up those important files, you can never have enough of it. A lot of users are now turning to off-site storage solutions, such as Amazons S3 service. However, if you need something fast and reliable, then there is no other option that a desktop hard drive.
Iomega have been in this game for a long time. I remember with a warm glow, the day when the original Zip Drive was released. Wow, all that data on a tiny little disk, the size of a fat 3.5-inch floppy. Well, they kindly sent me there Professional Series Desktop Hard Drive, with triple interface to review. Offering up 500GB of storage, with USB 2.0, FireWire 400 and two FireWire 800 ports lined up across the back panel. It is also nice to see an on/off switch on the back too (many drives don't come...

thewhitewolf
Advantages: very big space from a brand leader
Disadvantages: none
...This hard drive is very similar in look and feel to the other Passport versions that Western Digital I found this hard drive that i liked that offered my requirements in a nice handy little black box.

At 8cm in width, by 1.5 in height and 13 cm in depth, the passport fails to take up much space on your desk or on top of your pc tower. Its a miniscule 105 gs which means i can hold it in one palm quite easily. The black enclosure case is attractive and i hardly notice the sounds it makes when transferring files, thats how quiet this black box is!
Instructions
The instructions were straight forward to plug it in, and watch it go. I inserted the USB canle and within a minute of plugging it in I received the software had been...
