Reviews of hard drive internal
250GB Beast!
Review of Western Digital Scorpio WD2500BEVE 250 GB by
buckyohare
Advantages: 250GB of internal memory!! At a reasonable price, too!
Disadvantages: No major disadvantages. Not as quiet as I believed it would be.
...I purchased this drive as an upgrade of my Acer Aspire laptop's 60GB 2.5" internal hard drive, and so far I have been delighted with it!
The reason I chose this drive in particular, was due to the fact that it is an ATA drive (not SATA). ATA is the older drive technology, and as my Acer laptop is a few years old, it unfortunately does not support the more recent (and higher capacity) SATA internal drives. SATA drives are far more widespread now and are a bit easier and cheaper to find than the older ATA drives, but if you have an older laptop model, you will probably have to buy an ATA drive such as this one.
After searching high and low, this 250GB drive from Western Digital was the highest capacity ATA internal drive I could find at a reasonable price, and so far it has not let me down!
It took a bit of effort to clone my original...

Not perfect but close
Review of Freecom Hard Drive Hard drive 250 GB by
warandpeace
Advantages: Easy way to add storage
Disadvantages: More expensive than internal drives
...Having realised that on both of my internal drives had only a couple of gigs of storage free each, I realised that it was time to get an additional drive.
My first thought of course was another internal drive, however unfortunately however I didn't actually have the space inside the case to fit a new hard disk. (Only 2 hard disk bays in my computer), and so turned to external drives.
I eventually settled on a 250GB Freecom drive, which at the time seemed the best balance between cost and storage capacity, at just under £100 at the time of purchase, though I notice you can now get them for about £70.
Appearance: The external drive consists of a silver coloured plastic box, slightly larger than a conventional internal hard drive. As well as the drive a USB cable and power cable where also provided. To set it up is incredibly simple...

Internal 80 GB Hard drive.
Review of Acer Hard drive 80 GB by
yassarikhan786
Advantages: Quick transfer speed,
Disadvantages: Fairly Bulky
...What can i say this is an internal had-drive which obviously integrates within a computer system. Nowadays 80GB is not enough for anyone as programs are now increasing in size due to their complexity and what they have to offer.
A hard drive is a non-volatile storage device which stores digitally encoded data on rapidly rotating platters with magnetic surfaces. Non-volatile storage is simply the name given to a storage device which can retain stored data even when not powered. With a volatile storage device being one that can not retain saved data e.g. RAM (Random Access Memory).
I used to have an 80 GB hard drive in the past on my "OLD" PC, which was about 5 years ago. Now i have a 300 GB hard drive which i have to admit is filling up really quickly. Due to the number of files stored e.g music, photo, video etc.
This particular hard...

IOMEGA 500GB EXTERNAL USB HARD DRIVE
Review of Iomega Desktop Hard Drive Value Series Hard drive 500 GB by
mrjwood
Advantages: Easy installation, looks good, ease of use
Disadvantages: None found
....0 are never going to set the world on fire, it's more than acceptable for storing and replaying your films on as I'm doing.
The case does get relatively warm in use, but with no internal fan I guess this is how it dissipates the heat generated by the drive.
Highly recommended!...

Works exactly as described
Review of LaCie Mobile Hard Drive Design by F.A. Porsche USB 2.0 40 GB by
shil1138
Advantages: reliable and fast
Disadvantages: 40 gb capacity my be too small if you have lots of phots etc.
...This is a great product – I have two of them and a use them to back up and transfer all my files. This is a great way to move files between different desktops or laptops as you have much greater capacity than with a usb stick. It device plugs in with a standard mini usb cable and I’ve never has any problems with the device not being detected by the computer. The removable hard drive comes with a carry pouch – which is a black velvet pouch. I’ve not has any problems with reliability at all.
My computer seen to read and write to the removable drive at the same speed as the internal hard drive, and in fact you can work from the removable drive as you do from the built in drive.
The only disadvantage is that the software it comes with is not great, but there is not need to use this – personally I use a standard synchronization package...

Seagate barracuda SATA 320gb hard drive review
Review of Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 320 GB by
simpson123
Advantages: Fast, Value for Money, Quiet, 5yr warranty
Disadvantages: none that i know
...If you need extra storage for all your music, games and videos, which take up a vast amount of room then this hard drive is a safe bet. With a 5 year warranty from trusted seagate and the solid feel of it, it's a quality product.
I was temped to buy an external hard drive as I thought that would be easier to install, just plug in, but installing an internal drive was only a bit more complicated and well worth it. My friend's got an external hard drive but it gets very hot as it has no fan, and as it is connected by usb, it's not as fast at transferring data. You can get external hard drives connected by sata cables, which are quicker, but these are more expensive. Other bonuses of being inside is that there is more room on my desk, no need for another plug socket and they are cheaper. A disadvantage of internal drives is if you want...

Antec Nine Hundred Advanced Gaming Case
Review of Antec Tower by
avenger7855
Advantages: plenty of drive bays, and excellent cooling
Disadvantages: mother board tray isn't removable, and component installation isn't tooless
...The Antec nine hundred gaming case is a great case for anyone who perhaps has a confident amount of knowledge, to build there own desktop computer.
It has many drive bays that can be configured to your personal preference, this is possible as the internal 3.5 inch drive bay cages are removable and can be repositioned, also each drive bay cage can house up to 3 hard drives.
There are three different drive bay setups:
3 external drive bays - 6 internal drive bays
6 external drive bays - 3 internal drive bays
9 external drive bays
Each drive bay has plenty of ventilation, and each hard drive cage has a blue L.E.D fan included to cool the hard drives. Also an optional 20mm fan can be added to one of the cages for CPU, video card, or power supply cooling.
On the top of the case there is a huge 200mm Tricool exhaust fan that can be set...

External Hard-drive fit for rugged adventures
Review of LaCie Rugged All-Terrain Hard Disk Hard drive 250 GB by
yassarikhan786
Advantages: Fast transfer speed, protection from knocks and drops
Disadvantages: Fairly high price
...The LaCie Rugged All-Terrain External 250 hard-drive is a portable storage device which will allow you to store 250gb of multimedia files such as pictures, music and video. You will obviously also be able to hold documents and other files as well (e.g. software installations).
Measuring at 9 cm wide, 14.5 cm long, 2.5 cm in height and weighing just 250 grams, making the LaCie external hard-drive very light as well as portable. The hard-drive is portable in the way that it is very light, the only thing you have to take into account is that you will require a medium to large sized pocket or any form of bag in order to carry the device. You could always opt to just carrying it around in your hand, which is not very practical in everyday life.
All external and internal hard-drives state a certain amount of memory capacity, but in fact...

Great value for money, but maybe a lack of space
Review of Western Digital Passport WDXML800UE 80 GB by
jakepeters
Advantages: Cheap, Sturdy, Reliable, Small, High RPM, Plug and Play
Disadvantages: Lack of space
...I bought this drive to store all of my video and audio (I do a lot of Music Technology) on. It has a fantastic transfer speed and is structurally sound without any loose bits. The rubber around the bottom provides a very sturdy base and absorbs any mild shock that may occur to the device whilst it is in use. At times I actually find that it runs slightly faster and less jittery than my internal laptop hard drive during video playback. The only downside to this product is the size. It has only taken me around five months to occupy 60 gigabytes but it is perfect for mild use. I recommend this product to anyone wanting a reliable hard drive that will last for years and never let you down....

High performance drive for a bargain price
Review of Maxtor Basics Personal Storage 3200 500 GB by
plastik
Advantages: Fast and reliable
Disadvantages: Automatic spin-down can be annoying
...This hard drive has many things over other drives on the market. Firstly, being made by Maxtor you would be expecting something special. And I can happily say that it does outclass many of the other drives out there. It is a 7200rpm drive, and so file transfers are as quick as on an internal hard disk. While I'm on the topic of performance, there is one little issue. The drive will power itself down after a period of inactivity, which is great if you like to save energy, and probably good for the lifespan of the drive, but upon accessing the powered down drive, you'll need to wait for it to spin back up to speed again before it can be used. This can take from about 4-6 seconds, and can be slightly irritating when it keeps happening. Placing the operating system's pagefile on the disk has resolved this issue for me, as the pagefile...
