New Harley XL883 Sporster 2007 Model

Advantages: A dream of a bike
Disadvantages: None that i have found

...XL883 2007 Model - this is a fabulous bike. Now comes with fuel injection which means there is no more waiting for the bike to warm up, you turn the key and just ride away, fabulous! Lights come on automatically, the bike is alarmed and knows when you have left it and when you come back by the fob so disarms and arms without even pressing a button, which means you precious Harley is safe. If anyone tries to tamper with it it gives of two small warning before it goes into complete siren mode. The bike is a dream to ride, pulls well in any gear and is solid. You are able to throw this bike around a bit which you can not do with the larger Harleys. The 2007 models are a little quieter to meet the EU regs on noise polution but this is easily remedied with after market pipes. Great fun to ride, very comfortable and a durable...

XL1200S - Great

Advantages: Brand appeal, good suspension, low seat
Disadvantages: Low tank range, vibration, no fairing

...I've had an XL1200S Sportster now for just under 3 months, now that it's well past the 1000m run-in period I can enjoy what it's all about. Taking the step from a 600 sports bike, to a 1200 custom was quite a change. The seating position is a welcome break, with all the strain removed from the wrists at low speed. The seating position is quite comfortable, making you feel that you're 'on' not 'in' the bike. With the foot controls being positioned in the conventional place is great for carving through bends, as opposed to forward controls, which is more suited for cruising or serious mile munching. The pillion seat is pretty comfortable, with a sissy bar being a must if you're thinking of carrying a pillion on a regular basis. The rear peg positions provide a comfortable seating position, and are a great way to relax your legs if...

Falling out of love with my Harley

Advantages: Comfortable and Cool to ride
Disadvantages: Under powered, expensive to run and unreliable

...I have a 2004 XL883 vanillia style and it's a plesant and comfortable ride. I have however had some significant problems with this bike. The yoke that secures the forks to the body has had to be replaced 3 times after failing with cracks, HD replaced under warrently (as a known manuf fault) and the fourth now seems ok after 12 months riding. It's not a morning bike, coughing and stalling for the first 10 mins of the ride, you have to allow at least an extra 3 mins to allow the bike to warm up. The most recent issue was with with the gear box, which had a significant failure and cost over £2000 to repair. Having done 35K miles in 3 years the mileage is high for a Harley, but not in real terms and as the bike has had all it's services (by Harley Dearlers) and has been been well cared for this seems a tad too much trouble for what is...

...This store has since closed down and the items it stocked can now be purchased from Warrs Harley Davidson as they owned and ran this venture. They have two branches, one at Mottingham Road south of the river thames and the other branch at the far end of the Kings Road at their motorcycle dealership. This was a store in the heart of Chelseas KIngs Road and was more a boutique than a motorbike clothing shop. It had both clothes, shoes/boots and accessories in stock. It fitted in with the clientele of Chelsea as they liked the Harley image without having to own the bike. I am a life member of HOG (Harley Owners Group) and I shopped there occasionally but prefered the atmosphere of the dealership further down the Kings Road. The prices in the boutique are slightly more inflated than the regular dealership prices would be....

...Following my latest 2 wheeled adventure- which, if you don?t already know, left my beloved Harley Sportster 1200S, in a rather sorry state and me in a somewhat sorrier state- my manager at work showed uncharacteristic goodwill and trustingly lent me another bike! The ultimate riding experience

Advantages: It's a Harley, Looks, Sound, Riding Position

...was to change my riding style (previously fast, lairy and loud). Because of my injuries I figured I need something with a nice, relaxed and above all, comfortable riding position. Of course, my pondering led me to Harleys, and the 1200 Sportster Sport in particular. My parents managed to find a beautiful model for me whilst I was still in hospital, they brought in pictures and I just had to have it. My bike is a W plate, 2000 model with 10,000 miles on the clock. It was up for £6000 and had a Stage 1 tuning kit and extra loud pipes, boosting power by about 10% and noise by about 200%! ...I purchased a used 1996 H-D 883cc Sporster for $6,000.00 (USD) I then had the engine upgraded to 1200cc's and added a few other relatively inexpensive modifications (hi-flow air breather) for a total cost of less than $900.00 (USD), I then added a larger gas tank (previous 2.2 gal to 3.4 gal), and put metal Harley Davidson lettering on tank (no decals). For all relative purchases I now have a 1996 frame on a brand new engine. A used 1996 1200cc Sporster would have cost at least $9,000.00--so I saved alot of money and got a much faster and better running custom engine, and was able to add a few more custom modifications with all of the money I saved.My bike is much faster and sounds better than any new or used stock factory direct 1200cc Sporster. Owning a 1200XLH Sport

Advantages: Less chance of speeding ticket or visit to a&e.
Disadvantages: Clonky gearbox,?price and availability of parts

...I have owned this bike since February.My previous bikes have included Japanese 'superbikes' and British Big Twins. I was looking for something that had electic start(My age you know!)and that I would not find too powerful or uncomfortable on todays crowded roads. When I test rode a Sportster I was very impressed with the sound of the engine,Screaming Eagle stage 1,and the amount of torque(pulling power at lower revs)that was available. It's handling is very good and fuel economy about 11 m/l,but the tank only holds 12l. The seat is rather thin,this causes numbum syndrome after about about 50 miles! The pillion position is very good except that the footrests are fitted to the swinging arm they move with the suspension,but you soon get used to it.The pillion part of the seat is narrow too,I'll buy a better one in time. new Harley for only 5K

Advantages: Great fun, make lots of friends, good re-sale value
Disadvantages: brakes, lots of cleaning especialy in winter

...I bought my Sportster about 18 months ago now and just love riding it. It may not be able to do 160 miles a hour but so what. It can cruise all day long at 80+ mph and still have a little bit in reserve if needed. Lots of people stop to talk to me when I'm parked and admire the great paint and chrome finish. Also the sound is what a motorbike sound should be. Overall I am really pleased with the bike and have just had a 1200cc conversion put on to give me a little more power. Handling is better than I expected. Around town the bike has plenty of low down torque and it's great fun watching the traffic part like your name's Moses as you roar up the middle of traffic jams(in fact I don't take my quiter short cut anymore as traffics more fun - I'm love being a holigan). Petrol wize I do about 130-140 miles before I hit reserve...
