...This store has since closed down and the items it stocked can now be purchased from Warrs Harley Davidson as they owned and ran this venture. They have two branches, one at Mottingham Road south of the river thames and the other branch at the far end of the Kings Road at their motorcycle dealership. This was a store in the heart of Chelseas KIngs Road and was more a boutique than a motorbike clothing shop. It had both clothes, shoes/boots and accessories in stock. It fitted in with the clientele of Chelsea as they liked the Harley image without having to own the bike. I am a life member of HOG (Harley Owners Group) and I shopped there occasionally but prefered the atmosphere of the dealership further down the Kings Road. The prices in the boutique are slightly more inflated than the regular dealership prices would be....

Harley Davidson Sporster

Advantages: Low cost upgrade from 883 to 1200cc's
Disadvantages: none

...I purchased a used 1996 H-D 883cc Sporster for $6,000.00 (USD) I then had the engine upgraded to 1200cc's and added a few other relatively inexpensive modifications (hi-flow air breather) for a total cost of less than $900.00 (USD), I then added a larger gas tank (previous 2.2 gal to 3.4 gal), and put metal Harley Davidson lettering on tank (no decals). For all relative purchases I now have a 1996 frame on a brand new engine. A used 1996 1200cc Sporster would have cost at least $9,000.00--so I saved alot of money and got a much faster and better running custom engine, and was able to add a few more custom modifications with all of the money I saved.My bike is much faster and sounds better than any new or used stock factory direct 1200cc Sporster. ...the main reason anyone buys a Harley Davidson , that and the Name The paint finish and general all round build quality is superb with lashings of chrome on the engine casings and everywhere else .Paint finish is to a very high gloss finish and faultless the wide front end looks good (see my profile picture ) and is enhanced by the skinny 21" front wheel - The back wheel doesnt look so good and could do with a wider profile back wheel/ tyre as fitted to the new 1450 twin cam models this would be for cosmetic reasons only as the wheel / tyre does the job its intended to quite adequatley Handling - Handling is fine for such a heavy bike, in dry weather at speeds below 75 mph ( above this the machine feels a bit vague and wallows during cornering )which is when most Harleys are used these days In the wet however its a different story...

New Harley XL883 Sporster 2007 Model

Advantages: A dream of a bike
Disadvantages: None that i have found

...XL883 2007 Model - this is a fabulous bike. Now comes with fuel injection which means there is no more waiting for the bike to warm up, you turn the key and just ride away, fabulous! Lights come on automatically, the bike is alarmed and knows when you have left it and when you come back by the fob so disarms and arms without even pressing a button, which means you precious Harley is safe. If anyone tries to tamper with it it gives of two small warning before it goes into complete siren mode. The bike is a dream to ride, pulls well in any gear and is solid. You are able to throw this bike around a bit which you can not do with the larger Harleys. The 2007 models are a little quieter to meet the EU regs on noise polution but this is easily remedied with after market pipes. Great fun to ride, very comfortable and a durable...

Falling out of love with my Harley

Advantages: Comfortable and Cool to ride
Disadvantages: Under powered, expensive to run and unreliable

...I have a 2004 XL883 vanillia style and it's a plesant and comfortable ride. I have however had some significant problems with this bike. The yoke that secures the forks to the body has had to be replaced 3 times after failing with cracks, HD replaced under warrently (as a known manuf fault) and the fourth now seems ok after 12 months riding. It's not a morning bike, coughing and stalling for the first 10 mins of the ride, you have to allow at least an extra 3 mins to allow the bike to warm up. The most recent issue was with with the gear box, which had a significant failure and cost over £2000 to repair. Having done 35K miles in 3 years the mileage is high for a Harley, but not in real terms and as the bike has had all it's services (by Harley Dearlers) and has been been well cared for this seems a tad too much trouble for what is...

Toyo Tyres

Advantages: great tyres
Disadvantages: Hard to find

...Toyo are a Japanese Tyre manufacturer that not many people have heard of. Yet to me they are the most sexy looking tyre around, if tyres can be sexy! I mean the tread pattern of course! I had toyos all around on my RS Turbo. The grip level was unreal and the depth of tread great. The tyres on my Tub were standard size 195/50/15's and a tyre that low in profile normally loses a lot of its tread in order to cater for the profile. Not the Toyo. It has a very wide tread pattern. Making a lot of contact with the road while giving it enough play to movce around and keep you stuck down. In the wet, the wide tread allowed the car to tip toe through the water rather than slip and slide through it. They dont just cater for quick cars. You can pick up a nice tyre for your family saloon or hatchback too. The range seems to grow...

Performance or endurance tyres

Advantages: Hard wearing and good value
Disadvantages: Not very good in wet.

...I come from a racing background, with owning and racing many performance cars such as Supra, Skyline, Gto etc, I can say from my point of view toyo tyres are good for your money, but only in the dry. Wet weather driving with these tyres was like being on ice most of the time, because they are hard wearing I found them to be slippy and not much feed back from them during wet conditions. In the dry though they are great tyres got good heat into them and they did hold again feed back was not the best, but as in most cases you pay your money. These tyres are good for the price you pay and for everyday road use again are ok. But if you happen to be a bit of a fast road user and go out when wet please be careful with these tyres. Now I know 99% of the people who read this will most likely not race there car or try and take a corner at high...

The ultimate riding experience

Advantages: It's a Harley, Looks, Sound, Riding Position
Disadvantages: It's a Harley, Weight, Spares/Servicing costs

...-Man to operate the clutch and who knew what the matter was with the gears. Still, I knew these bikes had "character" so I persevered. It turned to be mostly my fault, as I had forgotten about my new riding style I was supposed to adopt (slow, careful, but still loud!) A Harley Davidson is a lot more engaging to ride than your typical Japanese pocket rocket. Changing gear is a very different process. You have to physically roll off the throttle, pull in the clutch, lift your toe to slot it into gear, ease the clutch out as you gradually open the throttle again. nothing like those fire and forget race-reps. The heavy clutch though, was not so easy to get used to, it is still hard work in town, although I am slowly getting used to it. The weight also is not something you can do much about, although the problem is not so great now I have been out...

...I you shop around, at local tyre fitters as well as on the internet, you will find that there are many places selling bargain tyres, but you must pay for delivery, and fitting, and balancing, Oh and the new valve, then there is the charge for disposing of your old tyres. I decided this saving just wasn't worth the hassle. I therefore went to my local tyre fitting centre. My tyre expert is worth his weight in gold, and he runs his hand across the tread before doing anything else. He then knows if the steering geometry is wrong, in some cases it can save premature wear on your tyres, and can save the customer a fortune, never mind affecting safety.
