...In the seventies, we went "Up In Smoke" with Cheech and Chong. During the eighties we went on an "Excellent Adventure" with Bill and Ted. And in the ninties we discovered life on "Waynes World" in the form of Wayne and Garth. Movie-goers have a had a long term relationship with storylines involving the expolits of two guys, recreational drugs and no respect for authority. The 'noughties' follows this long-standing tradition and has given us Harold and Kumar. In Harold and Kumar's first outing, (Harold and Kumar Get the Munchies), we witnessed the hapless duo - as the title suggests - get the munchies after smoking a large quantity of weed. ...Having been fortunate enough to stumble upon the first Harold and Kumar outing, named Harold and Kumar Get the Munchies whilst flicking through the sky channels. After incessantly laughing at nearly every joke made throughout the film, I noticed the movie had been left on a cliffhanger of sorts. I rapidly got up; searched online and yes I was right, there was a sequel. Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay is the next instalment in the H&K series. A sequel is always tricky to pull off, ask any director. I can remember countless times after watching a second film in a series, where I have been left disappointed. The Matrix springs to mind as being an appalling sequel, closely followed by Oceans Twelve, and the latest versions of American Pie have sadly killed quite an amusing brand. Advantages: A really funny movie
Disadvantages: A bit silly and OTT

...their attack of the munchies. Not your usual stoners maybe - ones a Korean American investment banker played by Amerian Pies John Cho; the other an Indian American med-school candidate played by Van Wilders Kal Penn, but that only adds to the humour. This movie has been likened to Dude Where's My Car and I can see why. All sorts of humour -from slapstick to quite crude - mean I'm sure it'll appeal to virtually anyone unless "silly" films are not your thing. I think the funniest thing is everyone I've spoken to about this film can equate to it somehow and could almost feel Harold & Kumar's pain as one thing after another seems to make their Munchies-Holy Grail slip further and further away! ...I can't begin to tell you how awfully awful this film is. I have never seen the Prequel and I didn't choose to watch this either. A friend of mine put it on and as I had not much else to do, I decided I would watch it. I have to say though, as I am reviewing this, I'm not really a fan of the american style 'comedy' films and so possibly my view of this film is more pessimistic as other views. If you find un-politically-correct films that poke fun at just about anything you are sure to enjore this film. At the end of the day, the film is supposed to be a bit of fun which allows you just sit and watch and not bother thinking about anything. Surprising Picture Quality - Panasonic DVD-S54

Advantages: Incredible picture quality when compared to my old non-upscaling player with a scart lead
Disadvantages: Sometimes disc drive can be really noisy when DVD's initially load.

...At first I wasn't convinced by up-scaling DVD player technology but was persuaded after reading an article in "What Hi-Fi? Sound and Vision" magazine. Unable to afford a Blu-Ray player my sister and I bought the Panasonic DVD-S54 to match our parents brand new Panasonic TX-32LZD80 LCD television as their Christmas 2008 present. Admittedly it was a slightly selfish purchase as we both live at home and wanted to watch DVDs on the big new TV ourselves! We bought the player from the electrical retailer Comet for about £100 just before Christmas so there were no discounts applied. On Christmas day when opened we found a relatively small box tightly packed with the player in polystyrene packaging. GETTING DEEP INSIDE HAROLD AND MAUDE

Advantages: Let's start with the film's heart and Cat Steven's Music. . .
Disadvantages: The film is unique and mostly overcomes its varied flaws.

...If I saw Harold and Maude today for the first time would it have a chance to make it on my top 5 favorite films of all-time? Probably. It is after all a flawed film, a film which is dated and very much a product of its times. I won't hesitate to call it a work or art, but I'm not sure I can quite call it a masterpiece unless I quickly add flawed to that. The Pavilion Of Dreams - Harold Budd

Advantages: beautiful music
Disadvantages: none

...The Pavilion Of Dreams was Californian pianist / composer Harold Budd's 1978 recording debut. Using unusual combinations of musicians in small chamber groups he crafted some beautiful pieces of music for this Brian Eno produced album. The first track "Bismillahi 'Rrahman 'Rrahim" is a lengthy meditative work which showcases jazzman Marion Brown's gorgeous sax playing. The combination of the gentle piano, the vibes and the sultry ultra laid back sax works amazingly well and the result is twenty minutes of bliss. This is chill out music long before the term was invented. The rest of the album doesn't quite live up to the delicacy of the opening track but it's not far off. No-one else was scoring Madrigals in 1978 and the two pieces here are delightful - light and airy and full of life. Budd was intentionally writing 'pretty music...

...Such is the cultural impact of Cheech & Chong that it is near impossible to begin a review of Harold & Kumar Go To White Castle without referencing them. The fact I?ve never seen a Cheech & Chong film is rather redundant. It?s not necessary to see one to know that Harold & Kumar cover much the same ground. That a new generation of stoner film has been inevitable for a while now (Jay & Silent Bob would be the last major ones), but what is surprising is just how entertaining Harold & Kumar are.
