Genteel Harrogate

Advantages: Genteel; Pleasant;Nice Shopping;Beautiful flowers
Disadvantages: Expensive for antiques; gets busy

...Harrogate in Yorkshire is an elegant and genteel spa resort with a reputation for being England's floral town par excellence. Numerous visitors are attracted to this friendly floral town, with a rich spa heritage; very evident from the highly dignified architecture, and a cosmopolitan atmosphere emanating from a range of renowned hotels and homely guest houses. Then there is it's highly stylish and thoroughly pleasant shopping areas, theaters, cafes andgood mix of places for leisure and entertainment. ^^^^ Getting there : Harrogate is easily accessible through inter-city rail services from London with connections at Leeds and York, direct coach services from London, Newcastle,Liverpool and Edinburgh and Yeadon Airport is just12 miles away. ^^^^ Where to stay: The Tourist Information Centre can provide you with a list...

French Culture In Harrogate, Who'd Have Thought It

Advantages: Great location, even greater wine cellar
Disadvantages: Breakfast was not quite to the standard I was expecting.

...Hotel du Vin are an exclusive brand of boutique style restaurants beginning with their first Hotel in Winchester back in 1994 this popular brand have spread across the UK at a rate of knots. With Hotels in Harrogate, Henley On Thames, Birmingham, Brighton, Bristol, Glasgow, and Tunbridge Wells. The next 12 months are going to be one of the most exciting in HdV?s history with Hotels opening in Cheltenham, Cambridge, York, Poole and Newcastle. HdV offer the hotel guest an exclusive experience far different from any other hotel chain in the UK with the exception of course of Malmaison its sister company. Each hotel offers individual qualities or facilities but all contain certain specific requirements in order to make them part of the HdV ethos. HdV Harrogate appears to be one of the more written about hotels in the chain, but I guess...

Make yourself at Home in Harrogate

Advantages: Beautiful, peaceful-ish
Disadvantages: Can be rough at night

...*Disclaimer* If you don’t like reading ridiculously long ops – stop reading now as this is going to be a lengthy one (I know, that’s what they all say!) I am strangely and very locally patriotic about my home town of Harrogate (the me dictionary definition of patriotic goes ‘I’ll diss it all I want – but if you try watch out!’) – so this will be my rather long and rambling piece to encourage you to visit me here and take in some of the sites (hey, if I do a good enough job maybe the next meet can be held here – so I can roll out of the front door and into the pub!) Background Harrogate is a prosperous spa town and ever since the nineteenth century has been a very popular tourist hangout – it’s where most of the business derives from. It is also the place where...

Home is where the heart is, Harrogate

Advantages: A lovely place to visit and live.
Disadvantages: none

...I did an opinion a few days ago on Loch Ness and I decided to see if there was on my birthplace, Harrogate. In this opinion, I am not going to quote from websites neither have I looked at any other reads as this is my own perspective. The facts are all correct and I hope you enjoy this read. Harrogate is situated 15 miles from Leeds, whilst Leeds is West Yorkshire, you travel down the Harrogate Road and you pass Harewood House and Bird Gardens. This is a must if you are staying in Harrogate and is open all year around. This is where West Yorkshire ends and North Yorkshire begins. When you pass Harewood Gardens on the same side, the 5th house down is where Don Revvie used to live. I think that is how you spell his name. After leaving Harewood, on the way to Harrogate it is mostly fields and you pass a large forest on your left...

The oldest hotel in Harrogate

Advantages: Clean, pleasant service, near train station
Disadvantages: A long way from the Conference Centre, a bit boring

...Last week I was an observer at my trade union Women's Conference, and stayed as part of a group booking at the Cedar Court Hotel in Harrogate. I thought the hotel was a perfectly pleasant place to stay though I would not go out of my way to stay there again on future visits to Harrogate (I plan to go back in July for completely different reasons). The Hotel The Cedar Court Hotel was apparently Harrogate's first hotel, way back in 1671. This sounds really impressive but I can't pretend that I would have guessed it was so old, and this piece of information is gleaned from the booklet I picked up. It reopened in its present form in 1999. It is a 4 star hotel with 100 bedrooms and 10 Conference/Meeting rooms, a gym, a restaurant, a lounge/ bar and a "24 hour" menu. It is one of a group of 4 Yorkshire hotels, with other branches in...

36 The Best Option for Travel from Leeds-Harrogate

Advantages: Superb vehicles, good punctuality and cleanliness, very comfortable.
Disadvantages: High fares, late night services, grumpy staff.

...INTRODUCTION The 36 is a single route bus service run by private regional bus operators Harrogate & District. It runs from Leeds to Harrogate to Ripon via Harewood and Ripley roughly every 20 minutes during the day. Personally, I've been using the service on and off since around 2000 and very regularly over the past 2 years to get to my college and back (from Leeds to Harrogate). The website for up to date timetables and pricing information is http://www.the36.co.uk USING THE 36 The 36 is (and always has been) fairly expensive as far as buses are concerned. But, as with most things in life it's a case of you get what you pay for. Around 4 years ago it cost me about £2 for a single from my nearest stop (North Leeds). These days it's £2.50 - so the price hasn't risen too much considering recent investments. A day return from...

Taylors of Harrogate Rich Italian coffee

Advantages: A good coffee for after dinner or to wake you up
Disadvantages: Too strong for some

...As I have done a bit of coffee tasting research and found this one to be a good after dinner coffee and great for banquets too. * PACKAGING AND APPEARANCE * Taylors of Harrogate Rich Itailian coffee is packaged in a red foil fresh bag at 500g in weight. The bag is easy to pick out in the local supermarket as it has the Famous Taylors of Harrogate text written on the front. It is wrapped in foil fresh bag to retain it's freshness for longer after purchase. The coffee is ground by Taylors at Harrogate from coffee beans of Italy to create this strong unique blend. * AVAILABILITY * Taylors of Harrogate rich Itailian roast coffee is available at all your local supermarkets in the coffee section at a typical cost of £2.59 per 500g bag. It is also distributed to all the Betty's tearooms in the UK for sale and also is...

A reet good day in ARRI-GIT

Advantages: Good if you like cake
Disadvantages: Bad if you don't like cake

...So the conversation went?? My Mum: ?It?s a bank holiday weekend? Me: ?Yeah, I know? My Mum: ?Don?t you see, that means we have to go somewhere? Me ?Erm, but? My Mum ?Lets go to Harrogate for Tea and Cakes? Me: ?Yeah, whatever? Instead of having a lie in, I found myself having to get dressed and endure a car ride with Dave Lee Travis and my Mum (I?m still trying to decide which one of them was the most annoying). Luckily, the radio signal was lost once we hit the borderline of North Yorkshire and it was replaced with a cassette of The Carpenters which was a slight improvement. I experienced a bit of a culture shock without actually leaving Yorkshire. Leaving behind the urban greyness of suburbia, I began to widen my eyes as we revved through country roads, I started feeling a bit like Postman Pat minus the Red Van and Jess...

A Warm Yorkshire Welcome

Advantages: Quiet, good value accommodation with excellent breakfast.
Disadvantages: A smallish room, but perfectly adequate for me.

...Harrogate here I come... Several months ago I was invited to an event in Harrogate. For various domestic reasons involving dogs, hubbie wasn't going to come along. I didn't mind that. At least I could be assured of one night's sleep without the sound of snoring, either human or canine! I knew a couple of other people who were attending the same event as I was, and when they told me what they were going to pay for their rooms at the poshest hotels in Harrogate I could not believe the prices. I am certainly not mean with money and am as happy as anyone to splash out now and then. But what was the point in spending a fortune for fantastic hotel facilities when I knew I would not have time to use them? All I wanted was somewhere quiet to lay my head, preferably with a good, filling breakfast the following morning. I started...
