Harrow, a different experience

Advantages: cool, green, quiet, less populated with lower tourist around
Disadvantages: Far from central london

...Harrow is in north west side of London. I haven not been lived there but have been there many times. Most of areas of Harrow falls in travel zone five of london. Most of tube station falls on metropolitin line with dark purple color on tube map. Major stops of harrows are North harrow, South harrow, West harrow, Harrow on the hill. It is surrounded by wembley, kenton, neasdon, kingsbury, queensbury etc. All of these areas have major population of asians specially Indians. Harrow is one of my favourite area in London because it is very cool. No hassles of city life as in central london. Most of residential area are quiet. It contain lots of green patches. So it looks like country side of England rather than area of London city. I had travelled through bus inside areas of Harrow and it is completely pleasure. If you are on upper deck...

Enjoy your Stay at the Comfort Hotel

Advantages: Friendly staff, modern facilities, good value
Disadvantages: Some areas of the hotel not as clean as others

...We have recently come back from a weekend away down in London. The trip was not purely a leisure break - although we did of course make the most of our time by perusing some of the sights in the capital. The main reason, however, for us going to London was so that my mum could attend a hospital appointment which was arranged for early on the Monday morning. Rather than travel down on the day and risk being late, we decided to travel down by train on the Saturday and make a long weekend of it. The hospital my mum attends is near Harrow, in Middlesex. After searching online for hotels in the local area, we came across the Comfort Inn hotel, which is located 5-10 minutes walk from Northwick Park underground station (on the Metropolitan Line). This was ideal as it was just a short walk away from the hospital, Northwick Park and St. Marks...

Keep it UP!!

Advantages: Getting fit, feel healthy, Free TV, Set your own HARDNESS!
Disadvantages: Willpower required! Not good for Woosies!!

..., Harrow. The British Rail and Underground (Metropolitan line) stations are about an 8 minute walk away (Think fitness, jog there in 4 mins!). Harrow bus station is right by the train station so lop off a minute in travelling to the Gym. Harrow: Basically its NW London, not as far out as Watford or Uxbridge. Harrow Town Centre: This consists of two small shopping centres and 2 roads with many shops in. Nearest to the bus/train station is the St.Annes centre. Once you walk through this turn left into the street (St.Anns Road) and this takes you up to St.Georges Centre. Once inside walk to the other end of the centre and you can take the escalator to the first floor, then walk up to the 2nd floor. Of course, if your gagging to get going, just use the staircase to run briskly up to the 2nd floor. Parking: If driving then use the St...

WHY ARE SOME HOTELS SO INAPPROPRIATELY NAMED?

Advantages: Convenient for London, on-site parking, wireless internet, good lager
Disadvantages: very small rooms for very high prices

...When visiting London, quite often, I take the car, park it in Harrow and get the tube in. So the first time I had to stay, the concept of doing the same, and staying at a hotel with on-site parking was pretty much the same. The venue on this occasion was the Quality Hotel, Harrow where I vaguely remembered staying when the Swans won at Wembley (but that's another story). Although it had been renovated since my last stay, I am afraid that, from my limited experience, never was a chain of hotels more inappropriately named. Part of the Choice Hotels Europe group, the quality brand sits between Comfort at the bottom of the chain, and Clarion at the top, so what is on offer at a Comfort doesn't bear thinking about. I seem to remember vaguely that this particular outlet was once a Comfort but presumably changed its name when...

LONDON'S CALLING

Advantages: Pleasent stay, good food, central location
Disadvantages: Views from room

...eateries/drinking places and chose 372, which offers carvery selection. I was surprise how hot and fresh the food was. Not only that it was tasty too! We opted for lamb with roast potatoes, new potatoes and three vegetables. However, my only complaint about the meal was the vegetables; they were a tad on the raw side for my liking. That said I ALWAYS OVER cook my veggies. Dessert was for me home made apple pie and cream, while the other half opted for home made cheesecake ? both were consumed without any complaints and very much enjoyed. Our meal for two with drinks cost £29) Hotel: the hotel it situated in the Strand which is in central London and easy to walk to theatres such as the Aldwych, Lyceum, and many more. Come out the front of the hotel and turn right, and you?ll be heading towards Trafalgar square with Nelson, bear left and you...

LUXURY IN LONDON!

Advantages: Brilliant rooms, service, food, internet etc
Disadvantages: expensive!!!

...In the middle of February, I was lucky enough to be whisked away for a long weekend in London with my grandma. I?m a huge fan of west end shows and musicals, and so our trip was booked- we would go and see various different shows. I couldn?t wait to go. One thing I hadn?t thought of before going however was which hotel we were staying in. I reckoned that we wouldn?t be spending too much time in the hotel itself, as we were going to be very busy, so as long as it had two beds, a bathroom and some sort of wardrobe I?d have been happy. I knew the name of the hotel was The Grosvenor, however I didn?t have a clue what its reviews were like, or in fact how many stars it had. Getting to the hotel We had absolutely no problem finding the hotel. We took the train from our hometown, to King?s Cross in London. We only had to wait...

Stranded in London!

Advantages: Excellent central location; good bars and restaurants
Disadvantages: Rooms a bit old fashioned; a little pricey

..." - the inner courtyard of the hotel with the humming air conditioners at the bottom. I can live (or sleep) with that, but there was also an awful rattling, like pipes, coming from somewhere in the ceiling. We went back downstairs to complain, and were told there were no other rooms. After standing our ground they eventually checked us in to an alternative room on the 4th floor. A little bigger, but still not brilliant - probably "average", from past business stays down in London hotels. The reception staff weren't particularly friendly, as other reviews have mentioned. Despite being "club" rooms, all that appeared to be different was the decor. Instead of old-fashioned wall-to-wall flowerey decor and furnishings, it was plain duck-egg walls, and a "modern" bed (faux-leather headboard and plain brown and green blankets). Not worth the extra money...

London Underground

Advantages: Convenient method of transport, frequent trains, Easy to get around
Disadvantages: Signal Failures, Broken Trains and Heat!

...♣ The London Underground ♣ ----------------------------------------- Considering I travel on the London Underground at least 6 days a week, it seemed fitting that I came across this category to write under. On top of that, two years ago I spent two days raising money for St Helena Hospice by visiting all of the 275 stations on the network. By the way, if anyone ever feels the urge to do that, I would certainly recommend it as it is great fun. When I did it I wasn?t working to any time schedule but you may want to try and do it in the shortest time as possible for example. However, be aware that this may be affected by any engineering works or delays experienced. I will begin with a history of the London Underground as a whole before moving on to look at each of the lines in more detail and give you some information...

The Tower of London

Advantages: Full of History, great tours, Crown Jewels
Disadvantages: None

...This past weekend we had an American colleague of ours come to London for the first time so my husband and I (we work at the same company) decided to take her around sightseeing and show her some of London. As we work quite near the Tower of London and both hadn't been here since we were kids we decided to make it our first port of call. The Tower of London is situated right on the River Thames in the borough district of Tower Hamlets with the closest tube station being Tower Hill on the Circle and District Line. It was built by William the Conqueror in 1078 originally intended as a Royal Palace. It was then used as a prison with a great number of very famous prisoners, mostly kings and queens of England and the various wives of Henry the 8th. This is where the phrase "sent to the tower" comes from in terms of being sent to prison...

London

Advantages: Education
Disadvantages: Exspensive City Accommodation

...We arrived at London St Pancras and for a split second we questioned ourselves, is this actually St Pancras. The train came to a standstill. Immediately we were overwhelmed with the swish new surroundings and by the grandeur of a once, shadowy and very old tarnished rail station; St Pancras had been transformed. This State of the art new construction towered over us and blended in perfect with the old structure. St Pancras had become another world of unrecognizable architecture; it had been modernized and instantly brought into the 20th century, though still retaining the original character of old. We boarded our underground train, the northern line, the 3 D line, Dark; Dingy and Dirty. Next stop the jubilee line or could it be the orient express. What dissimilarity, It was far more contemporary than the northern line...
