London Underground

Advantages: Convenient method of transport, frequent trains, Easy to get around
Disadvantages: Signal Failures, Broken Trains and Heat!

...♣ The London Underground ♣ ----------------------------------------- Considering I travel on the London Underground at least 6 days a week, it seemed fitting that I came across this category to write under. On top of that, two years ago I spent two days raising money for St Helena Hospice by visiting all of the 275 stations on the network. By the way, if anyone ever feels the urge to do that, I would certainly recommend it as it is great fun. When I did it I wasn?t working to any time schedule but you may want to try and do it in the shortest time as possible for example. However, be aware that this may be affected by any engineering works or delays experienced. I will begin with a history of the London Underground as a whole before moving on to look at each of the lines in more detail and give you some information...

The London Underground

Advantages: Gets you from A to B quite quickly
Disadvantages: The cost, being underground

...THE LONDON UNDERGROUND I was brought up in Surrey which is about half an hour by overground train to Waterloo, so London is pretty easy to get to. If you want to travel around London there are really only two options, either by bus or the underground. If like me you have been to London so many times you've lost count then the chances are you can find your way around the Underground quite easily. If you live a bit further away and rarely visit London I imagine the experience can be quite daunting. There are so many things to say about the London Underground but I will try to stick to the main things you need to know about the system. THE MAP When you arrive in London the first thing you need is a London Underground map. These can be bought from the majority of tube stations from a small machine. They cost about £2 at the moment...

London Underground...

Advantages: Gets you where you need to go, trains fairly frequent
Disadvantages: Price, people, etc!

...My personal expperiences with London Underground are fairly good. It is not a perfect service, the people tend to be nasty, and they keep raising the ticket price! BUT, without it, getting places would be a lot more difficult, and i suppose you get alot for the price, compared to trains to other places. Despite its problems, London Underground has a goodish service, or at least the only one available! THE TUBE LINES There are 10 main lines and 2 smaller lines, aswell as the DLR. Bakerloo Line - This is the brown line on the map. It goes from Harrow & Wealdstone to Elephant and Castle, passing through stations such as Paddington, Baker Street, Piccadily Circus and Waterloo. Central Line - This is the red line on the tube map. It goes from West Ruislip to Epping, on two different routes, one which goes through South Woodford...

33 YEAR EXPERIENCE ON THE LONDON UNDERGROUND

Advantages: It gets you from A--------Z
Disadvantages: People

...What would we do without the London Underground? Yes, we all complain about how bad it is, but just stop and think ? Is it really as bad as it appears? This review is not about prices or a history of stations or where they are or where they are going to. There is enough information for would be travelers to London from underground stations and the staff are generally very helpful. Yes they are! If you are traveling somewhere you can also telephone 0207 222 1234 ? Just say where you are and where you want to go and the operator will be very helpful and will give you the direct route via tube and/or bus. There are generally free tube maps at the stations and maps of local areas. There are signs on the station to say the destination of the trains and in some cases how many minutes they will be. There will be a map on the station...

London Underground, Life line + Pain

Advantages: Quickest and most practical way to get around london
Disadvantages: You can be packed as if you was inside a sardine can

...Being an exploring natured person that I am, I have been on every underground line and to almost every end of the line. Sad I know, but £2 for a child travelcard for unlimited travel around london each day, as a mid-aged teenager I could not resist. Thoughout my traveling I have noticed how important London Underground (Commonly known as the Tube) is to the everyday life of Londoners and of its visitors. It's services are over demanded on rushhour periods, but its service overall are very good. Reliability of the Tube is very good. These trains are not normally run on a timetable, but of a frequencey of trains (i.e. every 5 minutes). This frequencey of trains are usally around every 5-10 minutes of which I have seen a frequencey of every minute on lines during the rush hour, of which shows you how the service is reliable and also...

Underground, Overground, Penalty Fare

Advantages: It's quicker than the bus
Disadvantages: You find out how veal feels

...London Underground is the oldest underground train network in the world. Like all great old British institutions it has lots of character. It is a fast and efficient method of getting around the capital city - sometimes. There are 253 miles of London Underground track, most of which run on various routes within Greater London's 32 square miles. The LU or the Tube, as we locals like to call it, was started in 1860, making parts of it 143 years old. Some of it still looks and feels 143 years old! The Tube consists of 12 lines, 10 of which run east/west and 2 of which run north/south, although many of them are kind of diagonal too. The Bakerloo; Central; Jubilee; Northern; Piccadilly; Victoria; Waterloo & City lines are considered to be "deep" lines. The others are surface lines, although parts of most lines do occasionally emerge...

London Underground useless

Advantages: Doesn't exsist
Disadvantages: Never on time, dirty, expensive

...I have used the Underground for years and it has always been useless. I frequently HAVE to use the district line to get to Barking as I use a c2c service up to London Fenchurch Street. The district line isn't the worst, but when there are delays its bad. There is no explanation from the driver if you stop for a good 10 minutes or more and none of the customer service assistants seem to know much either. The worst line of all has to be the Hammersmith & City line, this line is frequently delayed I'm confident enough to say I haven't seen a day when it has been running properly. It doesn't run enough from Barking which causes big crowds and for the huge amount of time it stops, no one seems to clean it! Secondly the fares are too much, single to the next stop is 3, fair enough there is oytser, but why should people be made to get this...

Fast and frequent and the only way to travel in London

Advantages: It is fast and convenient
Disadvantages: Clostrophobic and certainly not for disabled passengers

...machines take credit/debit cards. Many Londoners prefer to use Oyster Cards which can be topped up and mean that unless you are doing a lot of individual journeys they are the cheapest method of travel. My personal choice was the off-peak zone card (1-2) which gave us access to all the areas we were trying to visit during our stay. Another method is the single ticket. Although both tickets can also be used on buses, we didn't attempt to use them as we were wary of the congestion, especially after using the London Sightseeing Bus. In our opinion there is no quicker method, nor a cheaper one to travel around central London than the Underground (or tube), but it is certainly not the most comfortable....

How to travel across London at speed...

Advantages: Speed, Frequency
Disadvantages: Comfort, Overcrowding at Peak Times, Cost

...London is a city with many attractions for the tourist so a fast mode of transport is needed for its visitors. Cars, taxis and buses move at the same speed as they had done during the Victorian era so the London Underground (or 'the tube') is used for quick and easy travelling from A to B. The London Underground runs as a metro system meaning that trains are not run to a timetable are very frequent. Within Central London the stations are very concentrated with very short walks from major sights, ideal for tourists. Out to the suburbs, especially south of the river, there are very few stations so the buses have to be relied on. ***LINES*** The network comprises of 10 lines and these are: BAKERLOO: for Paddington Station (Paddington), Madame Tussards & Sherlock Holmes (Baker Street), Oxford Street Shopping (Oxford Circus...

The London Underground - Central line

Advantages: Good way to see London
Disadvantages: Dirty and old

...One of the busiest transport networks in the entire world is based right here in London. Its common name is "the Underground" a name adopted in the 1930's along with its famous Red circle and Blue stripe through. Yet the tube network was started much earlier in the late 1800's. The underground was a complex maze of tunnels constructed deep underground to solve the transport problems that were beginning to affect London. Lack of space was an issue above so the answer was found below. One of the lines that runs deep underground is called the Central Line. It is the most heavily used by commuters and tourists alike. It appears on the map as a Red line running through London from side to side. Im going to explain all of the stations in this opinion and will take you on a journey along the line from East to West. Firstly, I...
