Hi-Gain HWREN1 Wireless-300N Ease of Use & Benefits
Advantages: Ease of Use, Excellent ranges covered, no disconnections
Disadvantages: None that i can say
...I run a network suite of 7 computers that link to a central server. I host servers for online multiplayer gaming ranging from First person shooters, simulations and Role Playing Games.
It is important for me to have sufficient network coverage as there is a high bandwidth need. I use a hi gain wireless device to connect to my servers for admin purposes only. I find that wireless security is better than wired.
I live in a wide covered wireless zone where lots of signals are being sent to and from other wireless devices. Sometimes it can get hard to communicate with other devices as there is too much traffic in the area using a conventional wireless network card.
Because my servers are stored in a different location to where I live I would usually have to travel to the site to administrate the mainframes and it would take time out...

Belkin Wireless G - Cheap and cheerful wireless adapter
Advantages: Cheap, connects to routers of all types I have tried
Disadvantages: Breaks easily, driver problems in Vista
...I had used inbuilt wireless in my laptop (an HP Pavillion tx1000, that I have also reviewed) for two and a half years, until my internal wireless failed and couldn't be easily replaced. I decided to buy an external USB wireless adapter to solve my internet problems, and chose the Belkin Wireless G USB adapter, as other members of my family use them and they are not expensive.
Driver Download
In order to get your Belkin wireless adapter to work, you must download the drviers from the internet. This is very annoying if you need to be wireless to connect easily. Other wireless internet USB (Vodaphone wireless broadband) I've used, have the driver software contained on the USB stick, which automatically loads and allows you to connect completely without a wire. The driver download website is easy, simple and quick. When you search...

Belkin wireless G USB Network Adaptor
Advantages: Cheap
Disadvantages: Not enough information on software or packaging.
...I recently bought a Belkin wireless adaptor when I went into a house share and needed to have the internet. I use the internet but I know little about the technical side of things. I paid £19.99 for the adaptor in PC world who only had Belkin at the time which I thought was not expensive. However installing it was a nightmare.
The 3 easy steps on the box seemed so easy; Install the software, plug the adaptor into a USB PORT - start networking! If only it was that simple. Every time my computer searched for a network it crashed. I phoned the Belkin company who took me step by step through the technical part and still we could not get internet. Eventually the Belkin assistant told my for some reason my computer was not recognising the new network. Being increasingly frustrated I considered taking the adaptor back for a refund...

WIRELESS GAMING - AT A PRICE
Advantages: Wireless connectivity to Xbox live, Simply to setup
Disadvantages: Ridiculously expensive, Doesn't come in black to match my Xbox 360 Elite
...If, like me, you have an Xbox 360, you will no doubt be aware of the dynamic and enjoyable facility available to you online, namely Xbox live. Xbox live is a place where you can download demos and game add-ons, chat to your friends, and stream movies and videos direct to your Xbox 360 in glorious high definition. But while the Nintendo Wii and the Sony Playstation 3 can go online straight from the box without any additional hardware, Microsoft, in their infinite wisdom, decided not to include wireless connectivity as standard in the Xbox 360.
This leaves you with a couple of options should you wish to get your Xbox 360 online; an Ethernet cable from your router is probably the cheapest way, but in these wireless days I was really looking at reducing the cables stretching around my home, not add to them. There is another method...

Buffalo WBMR-G54 wireless router - a real buffalo?
Advantages: Reasonable price, easy to use, lots of advanced settings
Disadvantages: installation firewall issue, signal strengh only reasonable
...I bought this router from a local Argos shop at an emergency situation i.e. I want it now and therefore not at the best price - 49.99.
Reason: My all singing and all dancing Dynamode R-ADSL-C4W-EG - wireless router had lost its main function, 'internet connectivity' after a month or so of continuous use (see my other review, now updated, for details). All is left is wireless communication i.e. useless. The return of this router back to Amazon caused me a week (lots of emails + recorded delivery + check that the refund includes the recorded delivery etc)
For Argos, there is an obvious advantage - if there is something wrong with it, I just take it back for a refund/replacement on the same day.
This router comes with detail instructions (step-by-step) for installation however it does not cater for the presence of a firewall...

Linksys Wireless-G - Easy to use install
Advantages: Easy to use, fast, easy to install
Disadvantages: May be prone to damage
...The Wireles-G USB Adapter is an excellent product, and does exactly what it was designed for with the minimum of fuss or complexity.
On first look, you'd say it looks rather like a slightly chunky flash drive, but it's way more effective than that. It can be used to connect a PC or laptop to a local network, directly to another computer or, probably most commonly, to a wireless router for broadband internet access. It is connected, as you'd expect from the name, to a USB port
Depending on your view, the fact it's external to the computer can be viewed as a plus or a negative. On the plus side, it's handy if you're using for more than one computer, however on the negative side, I expect there's a much greater chance of damage due to dropping, spillages etc.
The connection is capable of incredibly fast connection speeds (certainly as...

Belkin Wireless USB adaptor
Advantages: Simple to set up and use
Disadvantages: Software is not the greatest
...I bought this USB network adaptor for my son when he still had his Windows 98 machine as the PCI card that I reviewed previously was too advanced for his hardware. This USB adapter was bought to connect to my Belkin wireless router meaning that I now had a wireless network consisting only of Belkin hardware.
--Whats in the box--
On opening the box, there were no real surprises. There was the USB adapter, a stand which would allow you to place the adapter on your desk if you didnt want to have it plugged directly into the back of your PC, the antenna, a quick installation guide and a CD which contained the drivers and a full manual.
--Installation--
On reading the quick installation guide, it was apparent that the software had to be installed before the adapter was plugged in. The reason for this was because, when the hardware...

Belkin G+ Mimo wireless router
Advantages: Wireless with 4 wired ports. Good range and speed.
Disadvantages: Seems to be a bit unstable when playing games
...I recently bought this router along with a new wireless enabled laptop (Toshiba A210-17I). I opted for this model as it also includes 4 wired ports (I play my Xbox 360 online and prefer it to be 'hard wired'. The unit is nice and light and looks smart in its silvery grey colour. It has two antenna's and is G+ Mimo, which basically means it is slightly faster and has a better range than a normal G+ router. My internet connection is upstairs and I have no problem connecting anywhere within the house (its too cold to try outside :). Installation and set up of the router was simple and easy to follow instructions are provided to assist in doing this. Basically, attach the router to the modem, then run the set up disc and hey presto! you are connected! Maintenance/settings of the router is carried out by entering the IP address into...

Wireless Usb 54Mbps G Compact
Advantages: Plug and play, easy to use.
Disadvantages: It is external, meaning not inside your computer.
...This product is very reliable great for people on the go, or even at home. Good office use and offers speeds that will satisfy anyones needs. There is only one inconvenience though, the fact that it is external. Since it is external there is always a better chance of it breaking, or being lost. Linksys is the leading networking brand and is very reliable, and there when you need it. The software provided gives you an easy to use network monitor which gives you the option to connect to what network you wish, save the network as a profile, and show the best link connection/speed. It has support for USB 2.0 and also USB 1.1 so it will work great on older computers. It is compatible with Windows 98SE, 2000, ME, XP, and also Vista. It has two wireless network modes 802.11g and 802.11b and is also compatible with 128-bit encryption....
