Ebley tyres and exhaust

Advantages: cheap and great service

...Having had the exhaust on the car go and tying it up with string as you do, we had to go and get a new one. We telephoned around and you would not believe the difference in price. We were limited as to how far we could drive with it tied up so could not go to a large town and had to make do with Cirencester and a choice of three places. At Kwik fit we were quoted at "just over £100" and at ATS they said it will be £110 plus £15 if the manifold bolts and springs are hard to get off - now you can buy these in places like Halfords for £6.00. Then we telephoned the cheapest which was Ebley. They said £75.00. On arrival there we found that they had to send for it from their other branch and this would take an hour. But, if we wanted to have a look around the town they would drive us there and pick us up. Now that is service. Also...

  Tyred? Exhausted? Avoid Kwik Fit! *UPDATED*

Advantages: Brake parts insured for life of car
Disadvantages: Very poor workmanship

...a couple of negative reports, they seem to have cleaned up their image. I was greeted at the reception desk by a mechanic, complete with his trademark blue "Kwik Fit" overalls. After explaining the noise, he informed me of the Kwik Fit Brake Check. "It's a complete check of your breaking system, and the cost of the service will be deducted from any work that needs doing." I was also presented with a leaflet explaining all that had just been said. It sounded alright, so I left my car with them. The reception area and visible workshop were very clean, and well equiped to cope with any of the services that they offer. The branch I went to also sell and fit tyres, exhausts, and shock absorbers. About an hour later, I got the dreaded phone call... "Hi it's **** from Kwik Fit. Suzuki GSX1300R Hayabusa

Advantages: every thing
Disadvantages: none

...ride it and would not recomend it for any learners. be carefull if you are at the lights and want to just get infront of a car on my old gsx750 this was easy and i just speed away in first and think nothing of it - on the busa you give it too much and you will find yourself starring at the sky trying to get the front wheel back down. all in all the Suzuki Hayabusa is a great touring machine that gives the best handling, a great deal of confort and a feeling of safety which is hard to describe why with a rocket strapped to you but it is just an amazing machine. I have a big weekend planned for it now and am looking forward to watching it eat through allot more K's on the way....

...ATS well advertised,yes, a large company, yes, good reputation, reliable and honest? Answer NO. Well that is my humble opinion. I recently owned a small citroen AX motor car and the exhaust started to corrode, blow me I thought, the exhaust was only fitted by ATS in High Wycombe less than four months ago! So, off I went with receipt back to ATS where, on the ramp I noticed that the exhaust had completely cracked in half under the manifold area. Unusual I thought, must have had a bad exhaust, maybe made on a Friday night. Anyway, I went for a walk around the shops while the fitter, who I should add was the same fitter who fitted the complete new one four months earlier, replaced the exhaust parts for a new one again. Off I go, but to my surprise, about one month later it blows again, can't believe my bad luck, two faulty exhausts! How...

Exhausting

Advantages: Spectacular war movie
Disadvantages: Too long

...We sat through three hours of this 'epic blockbuster' and came away totally exhausted. Apparently this movie is the most expensive ever made and I can see why, with all the battle scenes and everything. I had heard that the critics had panned this movie so I was prepared for the worst, but despite the somewhat shallow storyling and the technical inaccuracies, I still quite enjoyed the movie. The story centres around a romance between a pilot Rafe McCawley played by Ben Affleck and a nurse called Evelyn, played by Kate Beckinsale. Rafe McCawley goes to help the Allies before America is involved in the Second World War and he is shot down and everyone believes him to be dead. ...ATS Euromaster are your typical Tyres, Brakes and Exhausts chains, running up and down the country. They are situated in most big towns and seem to be running alongside quick fit in popularity, however good or bad that is. I have only visited ATS once, and probably will never do again, unless I’m in desperate need of a Tyre quickly, but I won’t bother taking their advice on my car! You see, ATS tried to con me out of some of my money, something which I don’t really like someone doing to me! I needed a Tyre, just for one of the back wheels. I had already gone to National Tyres, and they had quoted me £39 for a budget tyre. (I don’t really want a super tyre for the back, my front wheels do all the work, and I have better tyres on the front). So, I went to ATS to see if they could do a budget tyre any cheaper...

A professional mechanic's tale

Advantages: Open Sundays
Disadvantages: Not trustworthy, poor standard of work, unneccessary work carried out

.../commission. This is not a usual story, two weeks ago a neighbour of mine paid Kwik Fit £75.00 to have his wheels balanced & wheel alignment adjusted to solve a vibration & steering pull. Only to find two days later that they had balanced a buckled wheel which was the original cause of the vibration & a steering track rod end was worn which caused the steering pull!!! He is still fighting Kwik Fit on this one. They often supply badly made exhaust systems which when fitted knock against the body of the vehicle underneath. When you go back to complain, instead of replacing the faulty part, they heat it up with a welders torch & bend it out of position. This puts the rubber mountings which hold the exhaust to the body under considerable strain & they often break a short time later. I caught one fitter who installed a front exhaust pipe to a Nissan...

Kwik Fit misfit

Advantages: Many centres, atrractive setup
Disadvantages: Shoddy after sales, workmanship not always upto standard, maybe dishonest

...? Certainly, the availability of garages are not an issue. I live in North Birmingham, and I know there is one in Great Barr, Sheldon, Erdington, Walsall, Perry Barr etc. But is this enough? Also, some of the setups are not very busy while some are busy. SETUP Kwik fit generally do tyres, brakes, MOT's, servicing, exhausts, batteries and other bits and pieces. Only some of the large garages, do the MOT. There is generally 'waiting area' with sofa type seating with a drinks machine and toilet facilities and friendly staff. This clearly adds to the atmosphere of the 'feel good' factor. And staff are most certainly trained to capitalise on this. STAFF Blue uniforms. clean, friendly, courteous and professional when you first meet them. This is one thing that gives them the edge, since you wouldn't think that they'd been working...
