Hayao Miyazaki's latest triumph

Advantages: Excellent Characters in the quality of the animation.
Disadvantages: Some of the characteristics of the girl seemed unreal.

...did seem slow in parts but once the film continued, it was an utter pleasure to watch. The ending does leave you wanting more and eagerly anticipating a sequal. However, whether there will be one, remains to be seen. But if you have watched Spirited Away or think that this could be your cup of tea, another Manga film that has been released, is The Cat Returns. This film has been produced by Hayao Miyazaki. I used my two week free trial with this company and remained with them for a couple of monthsbefore moving on to try many other companies free trials (and winning a new DVD player on Tesco DVD rental site on their free trial offer). Surprising Picture Quality - Panasonic DVD-S54

Advantages: Incredible picture quality when compared to my old non-upscaling player with a scart lead
Disadvantages: Sometimes disc drive can be really noisy when DVD's initially load.

We bought the player from the electrical retailer Comet for about £100 just before Christmas so there were no discounts applied. Miyazaki's timeless classic

Advantages: One of the most heartwarming films ever made
Disadvantages: Don't look here for a thrilling storyline

...Most people with any knowledge of Studio Ghibli?s history know the story of Totoro?s release: after the success of Nausicäa, Ghibli was formed and released the moderately successful Laputa. Miyazaki wanted to direct something cuter after this, a little pet project about children and big, friendly animals in the vein of his earlier Panda Kopanda. But financing the project was difficult for the fledgling studio, so they decided to couple the film with Takahata?s Hotaru no Haka (?Grave of the Fireflies?), which was believed to be a safer option. Miyazaki's best, a sweeping epic

Advantages: Beautifully realised; a fascinating premise and compelling setting
Disadvantages: Weak ending, some plot contrivances

...Mononoke-hime is the film that started my love affair with Miyazaki?s work, helped galvanise my love for anime and indeed, became one of my favourite films of all time. It has flaws that Sen to Chihiro perhaps manages to avoid, but the tone, scale and sheer emotional power of this film make it stand above anything else Miyazaki has ever produced. I first saw this movie, dubbed, on the big screen, probably its only official UK screening, as part of Jonathan Ross?s season of personal choices. It transfixed me. The spectacle, the fantastic setting, the sheer beauty of character and location?wow. The dub continues to be the only one I would ever choose to watch. For a while, I even preferred it to the original. I now know enough Japanese to know how far Neil Gaiman?s translation is from the original, how over-wordy and melodramatic...

...My recent quest for FREE DVD hire I visited and many DVD web sites that offered a free trial. Now call me tight (no that wasn?t an invite), but I like bargains and freebies and am not ashamed to say so. My quest took me to enough sites to hire DVDs for about four months so far (with plenty to come too). My latest free DVD site also happens to be the best I have tried for several reasons (see rest of op); the site in question is Blockbuster.co.uk. Other sites that I have had free rentals from and then cancelled have all been similar, two weeks free trial with two DVD?s per time ? which in effect gives you about four free DVD?s. Another brilliant Miyazaki production

Advantages: Brilliant plot, art, animation, character development and just about anything you can think of.

...After being introduced to Miyazaki's work through the impressive Spirited Away, I decided to look at some of his older films. I purchased this DVD in a bundle with some other Studio Ghibli, but I enjoyed this one the most. If you enjoyed Spirited Away you are going to love this film. The Film: Storyline - The film's protagonist, Ashitaka, receives a fatal wound while battling a deranged demi-god. He is banished from his village and leaves on a quest to understand his wound before it finally kills him. The story spirals from there, with Ashitaka meeting wolf-girl San and her wolf-clan, along with a large host of interesting and developed characters. The characters really are powerful in this film, ranging from once powerful gods, to a fantastical spirit of the forest and a host of women saved from the harshness of city life...

...Before I bought this DVD player Id never really owned a DVD player before. I had however had and still do have a ps2 on which I used to play my DVDs. I never really went and still don’t go on this so much so I was going to sell it and buy a DVD player. In the end I decided to just keep the ps2 and to get a cheaper DVD player than I was looking for in the first place. The main reason why I wanted a new DVD instead of the one in the ps2 was so I could play divx format DVDs on it. The DVD player in a ps2 doesn’t recognise this format and scene as I have several divx movies already on disk and on my laptop to put onto disk then I wanted a DVD player that would recognise and play this format. Another plus to this format is that it saves space on disks as it compresses movies into smaller file sizes without compromising...
