...I purchased this box initially for the Euro 2008 Matches which were shown on ITV HD as well as BBC HD. Upon opening the box, the first thing I noticed was how small the foxsat is. To give an idea I'd say it's 3/4 the size of a standard Sky digibox.
The unit itself is supplied with the remote control, batteries, scart cable, component cable, and a reasonable quality HDMI cable. Connection of the box is very simple with just one connection to the satellite dish, mains plug and HDMI cable to your TV (assuming you are using a HD ready TV, which you should be if purchasing a HD receiver).
After a small delay waiting for the box to boot up, the unit automatically searches for firmware updates and scans for all available channels. You have to enter your postcode during the setup process in order for the box to determine your...

Review of Humax Foxsat-HD
Advantages: Good quality reception, plenty of channels avalible Disadvantages: Expensive, limited HD channels so far
...with it is the limted HD reception, admitedly it does look a lot better than normal digital. But it may just be the area i am in but i only have 1 dedicated HD channel. The rest have to be found by using the red button on the normal show. And even then the only HD tv seems to be football or tennis, admitedly for me it is not a bad thing. Im sure the variety can only get better though. Maybe doesn`t justify the expensive but is a solid all round freeview box....

Review of Humax Foxsat-HD
Advantages: Superb picture quality Disadvantages: Initial price and set up
...After all the hype I managed to get my Dad to invest in the HD box. He phoned the good people at Sky and managed to haggle the price down to around £100 off the advertised price and then had the cheek to also ask 'what happens to the old Sky+ box - can we have it installed in the bedroom thrown in'?
Gosh Sky even agreed to that - so it's well worth having a chat on the phone and seeing what Sky can do for you!
The box itself is simply Sky+ with extra's.
The installation is a little irritating as the engineer told us that Sky are mega-security conscious. He said we had to leave everything turned on and wait at least 4 hours for the set up to be complete. He had to phone 'headquarters' to verify codes with them and actually said that took more of his time than the actual installation. He also said that he wouldnt be surprised if we had...

Review of SKY SKY HD BOX
...the channels. It generally updates itself every couple of weeks (it will ask you first) and only takes around 2 minutes. It is also possible to do a manual tune of non-freesat channels, although there is no EPG for these channels and to be honest most of them aren't worth bothering with, but if you have the time they are there.
I am running the box through the HD port of my Philips LCD TV and find the picture clear and quite sharp (a definite improvement over the Sky box picture). I'm not sure if it's the box that is making the difference or the fact its running through the HD port instead of the SCART socket that makes the difference. The colours appear natural and smooth with only a little jaggedness around objects. The sound is also clear and strong.
The HD picture on the other hand is FANTASTIC, the difference is very noticable. Infact I...

Review of Humax Foxsat-HD
Advantages: 1080p, HDTV Disadvantages: different angles prevents screen visibility
...Samsung 2333HD
A 23inch LCD compact tv, with a built in freeveiw that gives the consumer and extra 30 channels than an average anolog tv.
Where shall i start, well i will tell you of the positives, because i can tell you now that there is many more positives than there are negatives, you shall be happy to know :)
Well to start off, resolution, fantastic ! 1080p, not always found in 23inch monitors, is included in this lovely device. In my own experience, samsung have always produced high quality, reasonably priced products, so i wasnt surprised at just how solid and highly made this television was, i also found that as a HDTV, i was pleasantly surprised to see just how nice of a picture the monitor gave out.
I have almost no negative feedback to give on this LCD tv, although i will say that when watching or just looking...
Advantages: True HD Quality Pictures, Sleek Looks Disadvantages: Price, HD Channels
...The answer is..... probably, and only then if you own a HD tv.
The immediate concern when buying the Sky HD box is the price, £299, then there is the extra £10 per month for the HD service. This becomes more so apparent when you realise that not all the channels are HD, and the ones that are HD don't always broadcast HD programmes, a major example of this is Sky One HD which shows exactly what is on Sky One.
My partner is a Sky Engineer and the amount of houses he has been to where the customer has been mis-sold the product by electronic chain store salesman is unbelievable, especially elderly people who believe every channel is going to be in glorious HD.
Anyway enough of the downside, the positives can out way the negatives, depending on your viewing tastes.
In our house we watch a lot of sport and movies, and sport...

Review of SKY SKY HD BOX
...I have owned and tried various types of Sennheiser headphones, mostly for djing purposes but I also wanted a fairly cheap pair I could use to listen to music at home or to use with my ipod so I decided to cheack out some of the pairs that weighed in at around the £20-£30 mark.
The Sennheiser HD 437 model was one of the first pairs I tried as I thought they looked pretty good. Surely they'd make me look even more stylish if I wrapped them around my head?
These are very comfortable headphones and I seriously doubt that they would cause any discomfort if they were to be worn for a long period of time. The earphone cups fit nicely over my ears and block out some background noise (always useful).
The clarity of the music was very good but I felt that, at times, the bass could be slightly overpowering. After turning the bass settings down...

Review of Sennheiser HD437
Advantages: Fantastic picture, Ease of use, Box looks good Disadvantages: a little expensive
...We had a 'normal' SKY box for about 2 years and then my daughter wanted us to get multi room so she can watch what she wanted and she said she will pay the £10 per month extra it cost (surprise surprise i have yet to see any money ) but we said OK anyway.
As we needed another box we might as well go the whole hog and get HD as we had recently purchased a large (50") HD TV and all the reviews said you need HD imput to realy appreciate the TV.
So about 12 months ago we took the plunge and ordered the multi room with a new HD box. Multi room at £10 per month and HD chanels at £10 per month. We managed to get free instalation with the HD box which was i think £150.00 as we asked if they would do a special deal as we were also ordering multiroom at the same time.
I dont know if this is a particularly good deal but it was cheaper than...

Review of SKY SKY HD BOX
Advantages: Fantastic Picture, looks good Disadvantages: Price, lack of HD Material, bugs
...Starting with the physical look of the box, the new design looks really cool and the black paint gives it a mean look! led's are now blue instead of previous yellow - really good looking, but subtle too.
The features apart from the HD are the same as the sky+ box, but with a 320Gb hard drive in (mysteriously this is claimed by sky to be 160Gb and they say the other 160Gb is for future developments)
The picture on normal broadcasts is as good as any other sky box, the HD picture quality varies considerably. For example most of the programs on the limited HD channels were not originated in HD and is upscaled to HD, this gives a pretty poor picture and looks better on the non HD version of the channel eg the simpsons on sky one hd looks bad, but looks fine on sky one normal! But switch to a program that was filmed in HD, eg planet...

Review of SKY SKY HD BOX
Advantages: No contract and lots more channels the Freeview. Disadvantages: None really but note, it will not receive 'pay for' Sky channels.
...This Freesat receiver requires no contract and has nothing to do with Sky whatsoever. However, those with an existing working Sky dish can simply plug in this box and away you go.
Functionality is somewhat like Freeview but a dish is required instead of a conventional TV aerial.
Has easy to use menu's and installation takes just a few minutes.
The remote control has good weight and seems to be robust.
Excellent for those wanting to drop Sky, receive BBC HD and ITV HD with more services to follow sometime soon . .
All usual channels available including Five from the 18th November 2008.
Works in non-Freesat mode also and supports DiSEqC 1.0/1.2/USALS so has good non-28.2E service capability with a motorised dish or a multi-LNB system. In Non-Freesat mode this receiver behaves like a FTA receiver. Freesat and non...
