...This is an excellent tv back when i had a normal tv bulky and hard access and none portable and the xbox 360 games and much better viewing on HD tvs so i decided to purchase a HD tv now looking at the offers on i found the best deal with philips! An excellent buy if u want to get update to date with HD dvd viewing and HD games and HD sound! Really its up to you but if you fancy a change and are looking for an easy to view use and programme HD tv then this is the one for you! ...We are moving into our first house in the next few weeks and my wife just got a new job so we decided to spoil ourselves a bit and upgrade our Home Entertainment System. Before going on to the actual review I would just like to mention a few things about HD DVD. At the moment there is a bit of a war going on between HD DVD and Blu Ray DVD. (Very simular to the old Beta Vs VHS wars of old that VHS finally won) A quick comparison: Blu Ray The GOOD Up to 50 GB storage capacity It supports a higher bit rate than HD DVD so the picture quality could be better. It also has the support from more companies than HD DVD. The BAD Lots of rumors circulating about some production problems (Sony PS3) Disks are a lot thinner so they are more fragile and break easier. ...Over the past year or so there has been a bitter war between HD DVD and blu-ray over who woud be able to produce dvds and players of high definition standard. The war has now been won by bu-ray ( a feature available on the ps3), and HD DVD have been said to have died out and buying a player for these would be pointless. However, i strongly disagree and believe it would be a worthy investment to buy one of these HD dvd players for your xbox 360 console. As long as you have a good HD television then it would certainly be worth it. The price of these players has dropped drastically after it was announced that these dvds would no longer be produced. The whole player along with a controller can be bought for as little as £30 from somewhere like play.com. This i a great price especially as it comes with a controller and not so long ago... ...to say the service level was very good. I ordered in the pre-order time in the spring and yes there was a delay but I did still get it in time for the world cup (in fact it was installed on the first day of the world cup). The engineer worked tidily and quickly and was rather pleasant. He was finished in around 2 hrs and tidied up after himself. He made sure everything was working including things like my dvd recorder and dvd player so my scarts were in the right sockets etc. Nice one SKY. They were on time and polite so all in all a big thumbs up to sky on that one. ###Cables### You shouldn't need any extra cables the sky hd box comes with its own HDMI cable, which is the preferred connection type obviously. If you don't have a HD tv then you have to use scart but then you wouldn't be getting SKY HD then would you. ###THE BOX### The box... Read review

...Awesome! Buy it for a cheap thrill - you can get it for about £35 - £45 - check Gamestation and Ebay etc for a bargain - I think they are selling cheap in most places now. The drive looks good and plugs into your Xbox 360 USB port (round the back), its like a mini Xbox next to yours. There are extra USB ports on it so you actual have more than you did before incase you were worried about this using up your only free port! Your wireless adapter can now clip onto the back of this which looks cool, or if you are running ethernet you can just leave it plugged into your Xbox. HD-DVD's look stunning, a great improvement on DVD picture quality if you have a HDTV. ...A great addition to any HD tv you may have in your house, perfect for a secondary TV such as a bedroom this will allow you to stream from your PC to the TV over wifi in HD. Although there isn't exactly what could be considered a huge amount of HD on the net you are legally allowed to rip Blu-Ray/HD-DVD movies. Streaming devices for music and standard definition video have been around for a couple of years now and have done their job perfectly, it is just recently that HD streamers have become available for reasonable prices. The EVA8000 coming in at just below £200 is a lot cheaper than a blu-ray player with more features. Advantages: Near HD upscaling at a very cheap price

...As soon as I heard about upscaling DVD players I discovered the Samsung HD860 was one of the latest models (2006). As I had purchased an HD compatible plasma it needed to have the best available source I could afford for the money and at £65 this slim and modern looking player was a bargain. The player will output a normal scart signal (composite or RGB) and via the HDMI lead upscale the signal to either 576p, 720p or 1080i respectively (only with an HD TV). What this means if that the clever chip within the box will take the normal 704x576 pixels of the DVD and increase them to near full hd resolution. The results can be simply stunning on a clean or new DVD, older DVD titles do not benefit as much as they contain more noise which does'nt help with the upscaling process. ...So... Everywhere you go on the internet these days you find comments from sad individuals with nothing better to do than write " OMG'Z DON'T BUY HD-DVD ITS LOST TO BLU-RAY, THERES NO POINT". I picked up the Xbox 360 HD-DVD Drive the other day for £39.99 from PC World after asking the manager to do a price match as their in-store price was £114! You maybe one of the people I mentioned above or you might just be curious as to why i bought it seeing as HD-DVD is now at the end of its life. Well... HD-DVD is the better format out of the two high-definition medias out there. It produces much clearer images than Blu-ray. Again the inferior media wins the battle just like VHS over Betamax. ...LONG LIVE HD DVD!!! Like alot of people out there I wanted to enter into the world of high def. movies but found myself asking 'is it worth it'. I found my question answered by a visit to my local gamestation where I stubmled across an XBox 360 add-on drive for £25.00 with 2 films! The unit provides great picture and sound when watching back movies and with films now available from £2.99 (hmv.co.uk - a few examples: American Gangster-£2.99, The Kingdom-£2.99, The Thing-£2.99.........go have a look for yourself!) this is the investment that has to be made by anyone who is wanting to 'dabble' in an HD upgrade. All this and you only have to stick in the supplied disc, give it 25 seconds to run/save and you're good to go.
