...Look out he?s behind you! is a book I took out of the library a few weeks ago for my grandchildren to read while visiting me for the day. They thoroughly enjoyed it inspite of there agea of 2 and 3 years which has led ne to write this review. RRP - £5.99 Publisher - Frances Lincoln Books ISBN - 978-1-84507-734-1 Format - 20page paperback Ages - 4 -8 years The front cover of the book features a young girl in a bright red coat and hat holding a basket with a wolf watching from behind a tree. On the back cover the wolf is more prominent and appears to be saying ?sssssh!? as the young girl disappears into the distance. The story is obviously the tale of Red Riding Hood who is on her way to visit her sick grandmother with a basket full of goodies. He Kills Coppers by Jake Arnott

Advantages: It's a compelling story for those who enjoy bleak themes.
Disadvantages: The multiple voices could be a tad confusing.

...This is a darkly brooding crime novel dominated by a feeling of quiet desperation, a feeling that is generated through the lives of the three lead characters. Jake Arnott does an excellent job of recreating the mood and attitudes of London in 1966, giving the mood an avid, energetic atmosphere. It's an optimistic tone with which to open and one that is squashed pretty quickly. Arnott tells the story through the voices of his three main characters who, although they’re not exactly the good, the bad and the ugly, they each contain a little of those qualities. Frank Taylor is a cop desperate to advance up the ranks of the police force but is all too aware of the corruption within the ranks and can't quite remove himself from the taint; Tony Meehan is a writer, a freelance journalist, but he harbours dark and very disturbing...

The closest shave he's ever had!
