Economics @ Exeter
Advantages: Excellent reputation, spacious lecture theatres, good computer facilities
Disadvantages: more lectures than other degree subjects
...usually needs to be made). You are also assigned a personal tutor who oversees your academic performance, and can give advice on academic issues. My tutor has been extremely useful to me over my three years, and has provided me with important information on modules, careers post graduation, and he has written references for me on numerous occassions. Lectures usually last an hour, although I had one lecture in my second year which was immediately followed by the tutorial afterwards.
The choice of courses in SOBE is excellent, I have provided the full list below.
Accounting and Finance
Business and Accounting
Business Economics
Business and Management

Economics and Statistics

Kingston and Economics
Advantages: Great Modules, with flexible timetables
Disadvantages: None
...I have just finished my first year at kingston stuyding business eonomics, and thought that i should give some advice on what the modules are like as well as the teaching etc. Economics is one of those courses where you have to be willing to learn and pay attention otherwise you will just forget things in an instance.
If you are thinking of studying economics at kingston i would reconmmend it. I will list the a few of the modules you are likely to take if studying the same course as myself.
- Introduction to Economics (5 worksheets & 2 Online Tests). This is an introduction course for people who havent studyied economics and is somewhat easy to pass. Worksheets are easy and teachers are helpfull with guiding you through it.
- Maths 1(One TAKE HOME Exam 100%) This course is based around one exam, so you only have one chance, but...

Economics and Law
Advantages: would potentially be the ideal combination
Disadvantages: let down by the university
...there or sent me away because he was busy. This has been a continuous problem and struggle with the economics department. A very senior member of staff (whom shall not identify for legal reasons haha!!) even stated to my face that the 'staff have not got time to spend with students as they have their research to do' I appreciate that an academic's job comprises of teaching and research however, the attitude experienced within law is that 'the door is always open if you need help' Why can't it be consistent?? There is a distinct difference in the way the economics department is run and there is even a contradiction with the university's policy with regard to the role of a personal tutor.
Information regarding myself i.e. medical certificates never gets communicated to the law department and often Economics and Law students miss out...

A good economics book
Advantages: Understandable, Clear example, Good for starter
Disadvantages: Lack of Visual ads, can't be used in higher level.
...I bought this one along with the Economics Fifth edition of Alain Anderton. First, I thought this one was worse than the Anderton's one. However, After the first months using Anderton's book, things was still very complicated. Then, I decided to spend some time with Economics for Dummies and I was surprised. The content is very clear between micro and macro, the language is really easy to understand, Furthermore, the book is much less heavy than the Anderton's one. However, this one is just for someone who has never studied economics like me to get a good view of what economics is, when I moved on to higher level, this book wasn't useful as before. Anyway, if you're looking for a good starter economics book, I recommend that you should finish reading Economics for Dummies before moving on any more advance text book....

ECONOMICS AT WARWICK
Advantages: Well run interesting course, recommended
Disadvantages: Fast paced excess work load in first year
...As someone who has just finished his first year at Warwick University I felt I should write a little about the course and maybe aid people where I wasn't.
To start off the course has one main fault, we are made to do 150 CATS worth of work when most departments only make you do the standard 120 CATS.
The extra 30 Cats for me took the form of Accounting and Finance, this meant that I had less time for other things that I wanted to do in my first year at university- like lie in bed on a thursday morning.
However that aside, the four courses you must take are Macroeconomics 1, Microeconomics 1, Mathematical Techniques and World Economy (Economic History).
Macroeconomics in the first term was okay, I found the lecturer approachable but not really on this planet and unable to understand why I didn't comprehend something...

Butterflies and economics
Advantages: Readable, informative
Disadvantages: Only an introduction
...This is a book on economics, however I don’t believe it is aimed merely at professional economists. It is not a huge textbook being only just over 200 pages long.
This book sets itself up as an attack upon conventional economics. The basic premise of the book is traditional economic thinking is based upon a machine analogy. This means that it is possible to predict much of what happens based. As a result of this government have attempted to intervene in the economy to try to engineer the results that they desire; namely high growth and employment combined with low interest rates and inflation. However increasingly government has failed to adequately predict the workings of the economy.
This book argues that the economy can be modelled as if it is a machine. Instead Omerod builds economic models based upon ants. Ants he argues...

Economics in the real world
Advantages: entertaining style of writing, many additional sources of information
Disadvantages: no mathematical coverage of topics
...- The macroeconomic environment
26. The macroeconomic environment of business
27. The balance of payments and exchange rates

32. International economic policy
*STRUCTURE*
One of the main things that immediately distinguishes Sloman's book from the standard economic textbook is the fact that he structures the content extremely well. If you're looking for a particular piece of information, you will usually find this very quickly. Within a single chapter there are up to 4 different headings to indicate (sub-)topics. However, the structuring of the content is never "in the way" but supports the reading and learning process well. Especially when you need to motivate yourself it's handy to tell...

Economically car
Advantages: quite and nice performance.
Disadvantages: Style
...'3" people here) can fit in the back no problems, which is a true miracle for a small 3 door car.
The standard fit Pirelli P6000 tyres on the 15" alloys are grippy - so much that I havn't yet experienced the ABS kicking in. The tyres are a bit noisy at 30-40mph, though. They do tend to rumble quite a bit at that speed, which wasn't a problem on the Continental PremiumContact shod car I had for test drive. The 185/55R15 tyres on the Corsa seem to tramline easier than the 185/65R14 tyres I had on the Astra, though.
The electric steering is weird at first compared to the heavier "mechanical" power steering in the Astra, though is really easy to get used to.
The 1.2 16v engine is plenty powerful - 75hp which is identical output to the 1.6 8v I had in the Astra, and is more economical than the cast iron lump too. Oil consumption is about...

Look Out, He's Behind You! - not a pantomine
Advantages: Offers interaction with a familiar story
Disadvantages: None
...Look out he?s behind you! is a book I took out of the library a few weeks ago for my grandchildren to read while visiting me for the day. They thoroughly enjoyed it inspite of there agea of 2 and 3 years which has led ne to write this review.
RRP - £5.99
Publisher - Frances Lincoln Books
ISBN - 978-1-84507-734-1
Format - 20page paperback
Ages - 4 -8 years
The front cover of the book features a young girl in a bright red coat and hat holding a basket with a wolf watching from behind a tree. On the back cover the wolf is more prominent and appears to be saying ?sssssh!? as the young girl disappears into the distance.
The story is obviously the tale of Red Riding Hood who is on her way to visit her sick grandmother with a basket full of goodies.
The story starts by introducing the different characters in the book , Little Red Riding...

He's Just Not That Into You - Or Is He?
Advantages: Quirky comedy romance that is also thought-provoking.
Disadvantages: None
...him to leave, which Neil does, but he's still into Beth, and she's still into him, but marriage isn't on the horizon so they'll remain into each other separately! As for Alex, he makes a point of never being into anyone because he just can't handle it, and Mary... well... Mary would love to be into someone who doesn't think that voicemail and texting are equivalent to actual talking.
Confused? Don't be...
Gigi, Beth and Janine are close friends who work for the same company. Gigi, who is extremely sweet and naïve, would love to find Mr. Right, but she might settle for Mr. So-So if he actually returns her calls. Beth, on the other hand, has already found Mr. Right, however, her long-time beau, Neil, doesn't believe in marriage. As for Janine, she managed to hogtie her college sweetheart by giving him an ultimatum; marriage or bust...
