Big trouble in little china town
Advantages: good entertaining movie with action and adventure
Disadvantages: a little 'dodgy' in parts
...Director: John Carpenter
Producer: Larry . Franco

Released in the summer of 1986 this hour and forty minute movie follows the life of a truck driver who happens upon some 'Big trouble in Little China' town.
**BRIEF PLOT**
Jack Burton, (played by Kurt Russell) is a truck driver with a simple life, the love of money, drinking, Gambling and his beloved Truck, until one day when he and his friend Wang Chi, (played by Dennis Dun) go to the local airport to pick up Wang's girlfriend, Miao Yin (played by Suzee Pai).

China - Unforgettable
Advantages: Great Sights, Changing Culture.
Disadvantages: Difficult Language
.... The experience was amazing with fantastic views and a real feeling of amazment that you are indeed walking on the great wall. A word of warning is in order in that some of the sections are very very steep and require decent fitness.
These are the main highlights, we also visited Peoples park, where people sing patriotic songs in large groups (but it rained unbelieveably hard) and the Summer Palace where there are amazing lotus ponds and in fact the largest man made lake in the world. We also visited Ming Tombs where you can see among other things genuine Ming Vases and Golden Chopsticks.

From Bejing we flew to Xian, one of th most important historical cites in China. Important because they are still finding huge amounts of artifacts through archeological digs, important because the emperors Winter Palace is there and important...

My life in Yunnan
Advantages: A nice place to visit with tons to see
Disadvantages: Language barrier for some people
..., at least you should try it once in a while, be warned though, for westerners it's well known to have stomach problem after eating the local foods for the first time. Yunnan has tons of varieties of edible mushrooms, especially during summer to autumn time, you can even get the king of mushroom that the Japanese called Matsutake here relatively cheaper (not that cheap for local prices). So for mushroom lovers, best to visit Yunnan in summer to autumn time. Pizza Hut, Mc'Donalds and KFC are available he..he..he..he.
Language will probably be the main barrier when traveling in Yunnan. Unlike Beijing, Shang Hai or other world famous cities in China, the Yunnan people don't speak much English. Even for those who speaks Mandarin like me finds it difficult to communicate with the locals sometimes as they have their own accent. But they are very...

Theroux Trouble in Little China
Advantages: Great cultural and historical perspectives
Disadvantages: Incessant grumbling of author becomes tiresome
...the role of such writers to probe under the surface and really get to know the subject, I found Theorux's disparaging remarks tiring after a while. He started the book with a slightly wicked streak, poking fun at the other passengers but by halfway through he was moaning with all the charm of a teenager in the back seat of the car on a long journey. Perhaps it is just as well that Theorux does not welcome traveling companions; on the basis of this book, I could not imagine anyone wanting to travel with him for long.
I have said that I would not recommend this to other readers; this is mainly from the point of view that it was written two decades ago and China has changed considerably during this period. I do not feel that this book offers todays reader a special insight into a remarkable period and that more could be gained from reading...

"It's all in the reflexes!"
Advantages: Superior action movie, cracking dialogue, excellent direction and a sublime performance from Kurt Russell
Disadvantages: Might be a little to 80's for some
...The eighties, for me at least, was a golden age of cinema! Family and kids films were produced without being sickly sweet or condescending in tone and produced decent plots that did not require the needless extravaganza of modern day CGI blockbusters that now supliment and cover-up the lack of any decent or intelligent story. Compared with today's family orientated cinema eighties films provided audiences with enjoyable, refreshing and original tales that played out in a mostly camp, witty, smart and hip way. The Princess Bride, The Goonies, Tron, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Time Bandits, The Last Star Fighter, Willow, Flash Gordon, Short Circuit and Ghostbusters, among others, are all testament to this filmmaking virtue of the eighties. From this era of fantastic films and delightful gems comes Big Trouble in Little China - probably...

China Carpentry
Advantages: Always something to keep interest, Humour
Disadvantages: N/A
...Big Trouble in Little China is undoubtedly Kurt Russell's best yet. The tongue in cheek humour throughout a deadly supernatural, subterrain conflict is sublime. John Carpenter has hit a gem in this production.
Kurt Russell acts as Jack Burton, a run-of-the-mill type guy who works as a truck driver, fancying himself as an entertainer and woman charmer. He crosses by an old friend, Weng Chi (Dennis Dun) in China Town, San Fransisco, on a dark and stormy night, and after a fun night of drink and gamble, and ten green bottles still standing on the wall, Burton is persuaded to accompany his bud to the airport the following day. Weng's fioncée is arriving from China, Mau Yin, with a rare characteristic for a chinese girl, green eyes. However, an old, evil, ghost magician is weaving his powers down under and to appease his spiritual rulers...

The Final Destination in 3D - Death's final outing is a good one
Advantages: 3D is fully used, bloody like a horror should be, brilliant ending that wraps up the films well
Disadvantages: 3D is really the only standout feature, acting only okay, some dodgy effects masked by 3D
...As a fan of the final destination films I am pleased to say that the latest offering does not disappoint though I am sure a large measure of that is down to the fact that it is in 3D.
In my opinion there is no question that making horrors in 3D works - there is no better genre to take advantage of 3D with various weapons, blood and guts flying out at you - and in this case they have used the 3D format exceptionally well. To give an example, and without spoiling any of the plot, when one of the victims has their head destroyed by a flying tyre the impact of the 3D is truly felt with the trye screaming towards you and then bits of her brain flying all over the place.
The plot is, however, pretty much the same as all the previous installments though this one does end very well and in my mind ties up all the previous films - this has...

Please Make This *The* Final Destination
Advantages: Good premise
Disadvantages: Lack of elaborate deaths, no imaginative plot like others, doesn't live up to the hype
...While at the races, Nick (Bobby Campo) has a shocking premonition about a horrific crash that will happen and in turn will lead to all the other drivers crashing and killing numerous innocent people in the audience. This leads Nick to a state of panic and in this state he mistakenly hits another member of the audience, a scrap entails and security escorts Nick, his girlfriend, two friends and a group of other audience members out of the area. Nick tells them about the impending crash which happens seconds later.
Unnerved by the events, Nick wants to forget about what happened and get on with his life however when the survivors begin to die one by one, suspicion is aroused that maybe the subsequent events aren?t just shocking coincidences and are something a bit more sinister?
Being a big fan of the Final Destination trilogy I had...

Go easy on the eye liner, China!
Advantages: cute
Disadvantages: retired
..., he's perfect for cuddling! Though a downside to this is that if you put him in a washing machine you run the risk of ruining his fur. Also he has little beans in his bum and paws and if he were to rip in the washing machine, well it would be a hell of a mess to say the very least!
The panda comes with a little tag, a little red heart with the TY symbol on it. Inside you will find a special little poem dedicated to China. It reads:
In the mountains you'll find me
Sitting near a bamboo tree
You'll laugh at such a funny sight
I only dress in black and white!
If I'm honest I do not like the poem, but I imagine others will. I dont find it very cute or cuddly or sweet in any way, but I cannot moan - I did not exactly buy him for the poem! It is simply an extra.
If you want to buy this bear, you may struggle a bit. He is now known as 'retired...

Not a Minger
Advantages: interesting food, ancient culture, stunning scenery
Disadvantages: interesting food, air pollution, traffic in Beijing
...In July 2007 I went on holiday to China. I wanted to see it before the Olympic Games, although I had perhaps left it a bit late to see Beijing before the massive construction activity had begun. We used Audley Travel (www.audleytravel.co.uk) to arrange accommodation, flights and some other transport and guides where needed, but otherwise we were on our own. Total cost of the two-week trip including international and internal flights was a little over £2,000 each.
We flew from London Heathrow to Beijing with British Airways, departing at1635 and arriving at 0935 ten hours later, the next day. A fairly long flight, but bearable and direct. We had already arranged with Audley Travel, for a car to pick us up to make the arrival less traumatic.
Beijing Hotels
We stayed at the Peace Hotel which is hardly luxurious but comfortable...
