...Let me just start by saying that this is not a story, no not one of my tales of dread I have yet to find a publisher for, this is just a bit of advice on how to write a work of fiction. Like you, I am a writer, but I also write fantasy and horror fiction. I think I am okay but still need to work of certain things, some might say I am quite good. I have had nine stories published in various small press magazines and e-zines (check out my web site for full details) and about four years back I self published my own novella. So I guess I know a bit of what I am talking about. Every so often, within the pages of Ciao we see a story by a member, asking for any ideas on how his or her fable can be made better, or just comments on the said story. ...A Torchwood fan-fiction. Torchwood does not belong to me, so most of the characters are beyond my control. It has been a pleasure to work with them. Fiction with a healthy dose of reality

Advantages: gripping, intense storyline. brilliant directing
Disadvantages: A samurai film. Many will snub for that reason

...Without wanting to say too much about this short story, it was inspired by another short story (I cannot remember for the life of me who the author was) set in Japan, concerning the concept of 'ownership' and influence of beauty. In the story, a man is put to death by the emperor because he has invented a flying macine. The Emperor's reasoning is that there is dangerous, evil potential in his creation... but is it just that the Emperor is using his power to deny others the experience of the beauty of flying? In essence, he cannot accept the superior power the experience of beauty has given the ordinary man. Whew! A little bit philosophical, but it makes you think. The original story was told from an objective viewpoint; my response tries to examine the story from the point of view of the 'flying man'. Enjoy! Please let me know what...

Pulp Fiction Screenplay

Advantages: Extra scenes
Disadvantages: None

...Being a huge Tarantino fan and an even biger Pulp Fiction fan, I decided to get my hands on a copy of the script. The great thing about the screenplay is that you can read all the bits of the film that didn't make the final cut as well as seeing what the original lines were and the changes that were later made. There are quite a few scenes and lines that wern't in the movie and whilst some of them wern't up to the same standard, others must have been cut for time reasons. The book is split throughout with shots from the film showing memorable and important parts. Also included in this are; a list of Quentin's other work, the cast list, a full credits list and awards the film recieved. This book sold very well and was one of the few screenplay's to make it to the top of the top ten books. When you read it you can see why. It works...

Little did he know...

Advantages: Very funny, great story
Disadvantages: I can't say Will Ferrell is an idiot anymore

...Going against the grain of everyone I know I can't stand Will Ferrell, (or Will Ferret as I call him due to his tiny eyes. I also hate ferrets, it all fits.) I hate the type of crappy, simple-minded comedies that he stars in and I avoid his movies now. However, I saw a trailer for Stranger Than Fiction and I was intrigued. He didn't seem to be playing the same dumb, slap-stick character and the film seemed to have a good story. The fact Dustin Hoffman was in it swung it for me and the fact the DVD cost me a nice £1 new off the internet swung it for me. The film is about Harold Crick (Will Ferrell), Harold Crick is an IRS agent. He is a very introverted, lonely man who does nothing but work.
