...place for them to leave your order if you know you will be out. I can?t really comment on the postal service because I haven?t used it although I believe it would be as good as the online service. As with every book club I have heard of there is always the same catch of having to order around six more times in the first year of you becoming a member. Books For Children insist that you order six times. I haven?t yet ordered a second time so I still have my fingers crossed that the service will be good. Books For Children? Never again!!!

Advantages: Good range of books - age appropriate
Disadvantages: Very bad customer service & delivery times

...The first time I joined Books For Children was when my daughter was 2. I joined after receiving a leaflet through the post. The special introductory offer was for 4 or 5 books at 50p each + children's surprise parcel of books and a child's rucksack. Excellent! I sent off for those items, received them within 2 weeks and had no problems whatsoever. I fulfilled my part of the bargain by buying 6 more books over the next 12 months and then decided to cancel. That was my first experience of this club and overall, I was happy with every aspect of the service. Not so the second time around!! Unwarranted Books for Children

Advantages: Haven't found one
Disadvantages: Unsolicted goods, Nightmare customer service!

...ask if I wanted to place an order, to which I replied no I don't want the account fullstop. So her next question was would I like to keep my account open. Answer NO! So apart from the fact that I never requested an account, the fact that I was charged for items I never received, that it took 20 minutes to finally get to speak to a real person, and the fact that she obviously didn't listen to a word I said. I really haven't had a positive experience with them. Having said that the catalogue they have sent is very readable and contains a wide variety of childrens books suitable for a variety of ages. The books are also written by a wide variety of well known authors. Having looked at the books on offer in the catalogue they seem to be reasonable priced with a range of deals if you buy more than one book in a particular collection...

Books For Children is OK

Advantages: Saves going into town on the expensive Bristol buses
Disadvantages: Not always cheapest and can make mistakes

Consider also that HSW is part of this group, and 2 days ago I got an invoice for double the goods I ordered as it looks like they keyed in the paper order TWICE without my requesting 2 lots of the same order. Tonight I spoke to their Call Centre representative, who was very helpful on both accounts and cut the double charging in half for the HSW problem, and promised to get the replacement Noddy set out within 2 weeks. Books for Children - Big mistake!

Disadvantages: Terrible service

...I am currently trying to cancel my membership with these people due to constant wrong orders being sent out to me, incorrect billing amounts and constant badgering sales calls from them every other day to buy more books! What really upsets me with this organisation is the quickness in which they bill you online and through the post before your goods have actually arrived, sometimes books can take weeks but they still show your account as unpaid and then have the nerve to charge a late payment fee! Never again will I be tempted to buy my children's books from this company their offers are not worth it. We'll be heading back to our local bookstore from now on it's far less stressful and certainly more fun! Maybe I was unlucky but I'll never recommend to anyone....

A horrid/fantastic childrens joke book!

Advantages: A fun book that involves great jokes, and all the characters from the series.
Disadvantages: Some of Henry's joke are rude!

Each section contains around 15 jokes, with the section having a small introductory piece of text about each character, Beefy Bert being notoriously thick, and his answer to any question asked of him being ?Er?.I dunno?, though he does manage to remember some of the punch lines to the end jokes! This is a lovely book, that my daughter has yet to grow tired of reading, the fact that there are obviously more of these books to come is apparent at the back of the book, with there being a section and address to send your own jokes to for use in future publications, with the majority of the jokes in the books being sent from the children that attend Avondale park primary school and high ham school, a fact that is mentioned at the beginning of the book. Books For Children worth a try

Advantages: Big choice, some special offers
Disadvantages: Some offers aren't so special

...I subscribed to BFC to take advantage of their great joining offer, but after that the excitement sort of tailed off a bit. The joining offer was really good, six books for £6 I think. The books were varied and my (then two year old) daughter loved them. As someone who doesn't have much to spend on 'extras', this was great as the books weren't ones I would necessarily have chosen. You have to buy four books in your first year, which isn't so hard to do, as they send you a catalogue every month and it's quite a thick one. They will also let you know if, for example, you're getting towards the end of the year and you still need to buy two more books. The catalogue is split into age range sections, which is helpful, although I found that the books marked 'Age 1-3' were really just baby books, and my daughter much prefers things from...

...I'm honoured to be the first person to write about the Top 5 children books. Righto well this is coming out of pure memory when I was a youngster these were like my favourite books. 1. SPOT THE DOG!! Oh my god I use to love spot the dog he was this cute little puppy that use to get himself in trouble and was very helpful to his friends. However he had an over protective mother which didn't seem to really matter as he had such special friends. The thing I use to love about the books were its beautiful pictures and how it use to be eye catching and the real reason was that there was these flaps that you had to pick up so you can see who knows where Spot was hiding or who took the bears honey.
