Advantages: Fairly cheap membership fee, decent enough facilities Disadvantages: A lot of niggling problems
...I have been a member at Greens Health & Fitness club in Stoke for around about three years now, as it is convenient for me to use and close enough to work to use at lunchtime. I was previously a member at Total Fitness Gym but left as the membership fees were getting too high.
Greens has a good gym, with decent quality cardio machines (we have treadmills, exercise bikes, cross trainers, rowing machines, step machines and what we call 'wave' machines which give a similar motion to skiing), a weight room, two rooms for organised classes and a room with spinning bikes. There is a 25 metre pool with three jacuzzi's, a sauna and steam room, as well as an infra red sauna cabin, loungers and showers around the pool area.
There is a large car park with plenty of space, with entrance and exit controlled by a barrier. This is useful as...
Advantages: Good graphic descriptions/inexpensive/clear to use Disadvantages: sexist/heavy marketing of food supplements and associated diet books
...Men's Health Personal Trainer is an on-line gym/fitness club for Men.
It is a branch of Men's Health magazine although the subscriptions are seperate.
You can join Men's Health through the magazine. It is marketed to men with the emphasis on muscle building and glossy pictures of super fit men. In fact once you join you will find the workouts are very basic and there is something to suit everyone. You can access the personal trainer website through the Mens Health Magazine website.
Subscriptions vary, you can get discounts if you subscribe to the magazine or if you buy some of the books or diet supplements on offer. I got a month's free trial with mine and 3 months for £16.95 but I was previously a member 6 months ago and was invited to rejoin.
The website is divided into 7 sections by tabs on the top of the page. They are Home...
Advantages: Peace of mind, NHS under-funded and unreliable Disadvantages: It costs money for private health!
...taking refuge in a hospital bed in our ward!
I could go on all night; some might say I've been unlucky but I don't think so. My husband actually works for the NHS and sees a lot of what goes on both good and bad but is in agreement that I have not been treated with the care I was/am due - how ill does someone have to be before they are noticed in this over-busy, under-bodied NHS system?
If things continue at this rate I feel private health will have to be the way ahead based on a highly competitively priced health service, similar to that which is currently active in European contries like France.
If I had to go NHS again I would be fearful about my chances of becoming well; I know that the high level of private health consultation offered to me has and is still providing me with answers to old symptoms and mis-diagnonses and gives...
Advantages: No celeb gossip, no quick fixes (they never work!) Disadvantages: occasionally repetitive
...If you are inteterested in health and fitness generally, including diet tips, then this is a great amgazine for you - provided you arent also looking for some celebriity gossip - which I am not.
There are interviews in the magazine each month but these are usually with a sports star e.g. a recent edition contained an interview with an England netball player. I personally dont read these interviews in detail but I do glance over them and I think it is a great idea to feature sports stars who arent well known, earning millions of pounds a year.
There are always easy to follow diet tips and information on current health products/info. This magazine also contains a workout section which provides you with new workout ideas - this is my favourite section and the reason I buy this magazine as it doesnt make out that you can be a size 8...

Review of Health & Fitness
Advantages: Great Job Prospects, Interesting, Wide range of aspects, Exciting etc. Disadvantages: Not Applicable
...Environmental Health is a subject that the public thinks is about Pest Control and Morgues. Well although these points were highlighted by a programme on television, "A Life of Grime" which is on this week, Environmental Health covers a lot more.
If you dont know, Environmental Health Officers (EHO's), of whom work for Local Authorities, or other qualified professionals may work for Consultancies, try and look after the public's health. They enforce, advise and assess areas such as pollution (land, air, water), food control, health and safety, housing, meat inspection etc. All this knowledge is acquired at University.
The Manchester Metropolitan University is one of only a handful of courses in the United Kingdom that covers this subject and is accredited by the Charted Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH).
The course...
Advantages: variety, interesting, learning new skills Disadvantages: can be stressful
...Admission requirements for nursing according to NHS careers are set by each higher educational institution as they set their own criteria. The minimum requirements are usually five GCSE's or equivalent which include English literature or language and one science subject with a grade of 'C' or above. This would be for a diploma programme.A degree programme would normally require an additional two 'A' levels.Candidates must also provide evidence of literacy, numeracy and good character.Selection normally involves an interview (in my experience).
I am concentrating in this review on what my personal experiences as a mental health nurse have been and whether I recommend it as a career option. I have been a mental health nurse for nine years after being made redundant from Learning Disabilities nursing and doing a one year fully funded...
Advantages: Good prices, open 7 days Disadvantages: 1 therapist
...I recently tried out this Health and Beauty Salon in Swiss Cottage...except it's not actually in a salon. Upon arriving at Harmony for my massage, I quickly realised that it was set up in someone's home. At first I was a little uncomfortable and unsure about this but soon after arriving and meeting my therapist, and seeing that the house was spotless and looked quite professional, I felt quite at ease.
My friend and I actually made an appointment to try out a Stone Massage, obviously because there were 2 of us, we were hoping to have our appointments at the same time, no-one wants to hang around and wait in someone's living room for an hour for their turn. So straight up, I thought Bugger!!
We quickly changed our massge time to just the half an hour each.
This was the first time I had tried Stone Massage and I have to say, I...
...This is one of the few magazines that I buy EVERY month. As I am trained in two holistic therapies this magazine really appeals. Every month you will find such an amazing breadth of subjects. There are complimentary therapies featured, nutrition information, extremely intersting articles as well as news and views. The style of writing is very easy to read and the tone is not preachy, which it tends to be in some health publications.
The magazine looks great! It is well laid out and includes super photographs. Very useful for both the lay person simply interested in a healthy lifestyle and the professional therapist. Articles are interesting and written from unusual angles, there is also a great classified section at the end where you can find a therapist, courses and lots of relevant subjects. An unmissable read!...

Review of Here's Health
...Now those amongst my readers who know me “in the flesh” are going to snigger. Yes, Men’s Health is my favourite magazine. Ok I eat and drink to much and do too little exercise, and the pile of old Men’s Health magazines complement my discarded Bull-worker, Guttbuster and a plethora of other get fit quick paraphernalia awaiting banishment to the loft or pricing up for the car boot sale. And admittedly my magazine has a picture of a sweaty muscular bloke on the front as opposed to the more usual scantily clad starlet of other gent’s monthlies. But you see MH isn’t just about biceps, pecs and abs. It’s isn’t just about diets, testicular cancer and how to quit smoking. MH has some excellent features and articles on all sorts of subjects.
Men’s Health is available for £3 from most...

Review of Men's Health
Advantages: Cheap, efficient, cooks through thoroughly. virtually perfect! Disadvantages: Small power lead, no variable heat setting.
...I was looking for something to help with my predicament at the moment & came accross the Tesco Health Grill, by accident.
Im having a new kitchen fitted on 7th April & have had to have the kitchen stripped of everything including my cooker, as I needed other work doing, including all the walls & ceilings plastered.
Im not a ready meal person. I have to watch my salt intake very carefully & I like what I like. So the thought of microwave meals filled me with dread.
I was flicking through Tesco online, trying to find anything I could buy, that was cheap & would allow me to make a meal myself.
I am delighted to say I found the Health Grill. It was £13.97, so I was a bit sceptical at first as it seemed very cheap. I went to our local store & they had one in so I plumped for it.
I have just eaten my Sunday dinner & was so...
