THE BLOOD PRESSURE MONITOR
--------------------------------------------------
CHOICE OF DEVICE
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
~ Why did I choose this Manufacturer and Model ? ~
After being informed by my GP that my blood pressure was on the high side and needed more frequent monitoring, I decided to purchase a device of my own to avoid the need to make repeated trips to the surgery.
I wanted a simple to use electronic, battery powered, arm Blood Pressure Monitor that cost less than £100.
The one name that I know of in this particular field of measurement is Omron which is often the manufacturer of choice in Doctors surgeries (in my experience). Therefore, initially, I looked for an Omron Blood Pressure Monitor (BPM) in the Health and electrical stores in my local town.
I found that my local Boots store was the only place where I could find...
Review of LLoyds Pharmacy Blood Pressure Monitor by
Miskah
Advantages: excellent value, quick, accurate, fully automatic
Disadvantages: not aesthetically pleasing
...This isn’t cheap tat as the £9.99 price tag would indicate. I was inspired to write this review because I was horrified at the price tag of most of these BP monitors. I never realised the price that some of the brands were going for. I have one of these; I also bought my dad one. I also have an Omron R6 but I have decided not to review it once I found out it was being sold for £75, you see I paid £4.99 for mine. Admittedly the Omron looks nicer than Lloyds but not that much nicer.
The Lloyds is actually a £50.00 machine but the price is reduced to £9.99. Admittedly the price cuts are not all down to altruism; Lloyds are a rapidly developing pharmaceutical market leader, their market share has increased by 67%. They have achieved this by placing pharmacies in GPs surgeries and doing free health checks i.e. diabetic and blood pressure...
Review of Omron RX Blood Pressure Monitor by
milleniumzeus
Advantages: Helps keep a check on your health.
Disadvantages: Price maybe, could get a little paranoid about health.
...I thought I would have a change from all the heavy stuff I have been writing about lately, and write about a little machine I bought about six months ago.
The Omron MX3. It is a blood pressure monitor.
All my life my blood pressure has been wildly erratic. The highest measured blood pressure I recorded was 180/100. High yes, but I had just spent 12 minutes on a treadmill having a heart test. Anyway it was back to 140/80 within 5 minutes.
They told me that was great.
Anyway when I go to the doctors it varies between 157/95 being the highest and 117/76 being the lowest. Generally though it is about 140/80-85
I have researched this a little and I have realised that your blood pressure can vary and change very rapidly. I have confirmed this by visits to the doctor and a medical friend of mine who uses a different machine to the one...
Omron Electronic Pulse Massager HV-F115
Review of Omron Electronic Pulse Massager HV-F115 by
Bobbin
Advantages: Portable, Variable Pulse Programmes
Disadvantages: Expenisive, Not suitable for all conditions
...I bought my Omron Electronic Pulse Massager HV-F115 five years ago, in easier English - it's a TENS machine. I have an upper spine injury situated between my shoulder blades. I have two discs missing and 'spurs' have developed on my spine. Pain-wise - well yes it's very painful and I require daily pain killers. I can only describe the pain as having a permanent, throbbing stitch on my spine. Often this causes my right arm to weaken and puts pain into my neck. Not pleasant! Unfortunately I have yet to find treatment that banishes the pain completely and I'm sure like many of you reading this I look towards pain 'management' to help ease the discomfort.
I have tried many things - no doubt I will write about many of them here! However, the TENS machine is one of the few pieces of pain management wear I have bought.
What...
Under Pressure
Review of Omron RX Blood Pressure Monitor by
dabmim
Advantages: Quick testing
Disadvantages: cost maybe
...When I was diagnosed with hypertension (that’s technical for high pressure), It was another yet health worry to cope with! I was placed on the tablet ‘lisinopril’ which had some really unwanted side effects (see review on it). In fact it was enough to send you BP sky high!
Having a family history of hypertension related illnesses it was of some concern, though not majorly.
Normal Pressure is rated at around 120/80 - mine was around 140/90 (and above): Not that high I thought, and in fact according to the leaflet in this package it is acceptable as normal according to the World Health Organisation! But the very fact that I am diabetic was enough for concern, (as Pressure in a diabetic is generally required to be lower) and a prescription for ‘Lisinopril’ was issued.
Anyway...
Review of Omron Tens Machine by
thingywhatsit
Advantages: Help relieve pain.
Disadvantages: Doesn't always do the job.
...About six years ago, I fell down a stairwell onto a concrete floor and damaged my spine. I have had endless treatment, although I believe that over the years, back pain is one thing that never really goes away. I also believe that having suffered a serious injury to the back, the problems of age will exaggerate back problems, and over the past six years, this really has been proven to be true in my case.
I have had many sessions of physiotherapy, chiropractice, acupuncture, and even resorted to different dietry aids, and the problem is still there, although when I was first told about the Tens Machine, I took a look at a friend of mine's machine and I did not like the fact that the electrodes that were attached to the machine were all sticky and had to be replaced too frequently.
The Omron Tens Machine is a little different, since...
Monitor Your Baby
Review of Tomy Walkabout Baby Advance Monitor by
newby2
Advantages: peace of mind
Disadvantages: none
...Baby Walkabout Advance from Tomy
Living in a flat I felt I did not really need the most high tech and expensive of monitors and just needed one that really did the job. I was looking at all the ones available to buy on Amazon and this one sprang out at me.
It was not the cheapest monitor going but it certainly was not the most expensive either. Monitors range from about £15 up to an astonishing £100 plus. The latest ones out on the market offer a television screen where you are actually able to see your baby as well as hear their sounds and monitor room temperature. I feel however the television screen is a little bit much and think I would find myself glued to the screen while all the time away from the baby.
This particular baby monitor set me back only £29. I think this is a fair price for what you are getting...
Baby monitor your neighbours
Review of Fisher Price Sounds 'n' Light baby monitor by
katbuzza
Advantages: It looks nice
Disadvantages: Can't hear baby, lights don't change when baby makes noises
...We all read and hear about cot death nearly everywhere we go - it is in the papers, on billboards, everywhere...
So as a new mother and reading and hearing about these sort of things, it is quite natural to want to have a bit of constant security in knowing that your baby is sleeping safe and sound in his or her cot.
Therefore I bought the Fisher-Price Sounds & Lights Monitor at Babies 'R US. At the time I thought that it was a good deal at £25.00 because it claimed to do everything that I expected a good monitor to do.
The Fisher-Price Sounds and Lights monitor claims to have a variable light display that lets you see the sounds the baby makes. There are 5 lights displayed on the parent's monitor which are meant to allow you to see the baby's level of activity, but, after 4 months, I am still waiting to see how this actually...
Bt digital baby monitor plus
Review of BT Digital Baby Monitor Plus 120-channel by
superstar1212
Advantages: Lullaby's, Intercom
Disadvantages: Battery life is not very good, night light feature also a little poor
...I brought the BT Digital Baby Monitor Plus about two years ago from Argos priced £69.79.
I have had other baby monitors in the past but this design is by far the best as it has many useful functions. It is quite pricey but you will not be disappointed once you have it, mine is on all day everyday.
The monitor comes as two separate unit’s the larger one is for the nursery ideally near the cot and the parent handset which I keep down stairs. Both are connected to the mains and the parent handset has re-chargeable batteries (2x AA supplied). The parent handset has a 50 metres indoor range and 300m range for when you are on the move around the house it comes complete with a belt clip to fasten it safely to your waist band. The area of range was essential for me when my little one was newborn. It meant I could keep an ear on him while I...
