...and 'When Your Heart Stops Beating' is therefore a much better offering than what we had from Mr DeLonge. Whereas after the demise of Blink 182, Tom DeLonge took the route of taking himself far too seriously and becoming a complete egotist, +44 are far more light-hearted, and although their music is at times a far cry from that of what they were producing as Blink 182; a lot of the time the tracks here sound like cast off's from Blink 182's self titled release. 'When Your Heart Stops Beating' starts off promisingly with 'Lycanthrope', a track which is fairly pacey and keeps your interest for the 4 minutes that it runs for. Although this track is pacey with strong drum beats and guitars, it's never really anything spectacular and although starts the album nicely enough it will never leave you gasping in awe of what you have just listened to...

The Heart is Beating, Louder . . . Louder! But Whose?

Advantages: Short, easy to read and full of mystery.
Disadvantages: A bit too creepy and confusing.

He didn?t mention a name, age or the sex of the killer or his/her relationship to the victim . . . The character could be his son, daughter, employee or possibly his wife! But he kept sending us signals about how troubled and unstable the character was by throwing in hints and words. The narrator did all the talking, the action and description. This person was as cold as stone, a HEARTLESS person who ironically talked in a heartbeat rhythm! Advantages: Beautiful melodies and guitar work. Who can forget the drums of Travis Barker!
Disadvantages: None come to mind.

(+44) however don't lack anything. A release full of slow moving songs, upbeat jaunty songs, depressing songs and pretty much any kind of song you want. It suits pretty much any mood as long as you pick the track correctly! Although I'm finding it tough to pick, the best songs on the album have to be; Little Death, 155 No, It Isn't, Make You Smile and the title track When Your Heart Stops Beating. ...It's not very often that I get excited about a book release, as I just don't like to pay the prices of newly released hardback books. But I do make an exception for Jodi Picoult's novels, and when I heard a few months ago that Change of Heart was to be released this month, I saved up one of my Waterstones vouchers especially for it! I eagerly picked up my copy on Thursday and took it to the counter and started reading it as soon as I got home, and managed to finish it at 1am on Sunday morning..it was that good that I just couldn't put it down. The Heart and Soul of the Irish health service.

Advantages: Characters are well explored.

...As readers to my page know, I have had a bit of a Marian Keyes spell of reading, so I thought I would have a change. Not much of a change, to be fair, as I returned to a previous favourite for easy reading, in Maeve Binchy. Again, another Irish female author, and one who I trust to give me a good yarn at the end of a busy day. I was given several hard back copies of her novels by my sister, one of which was ?Heart and Soul?. I have read this as a stand alone novel, but just read another review which has told me that it was a sequel to Whitethorn Woods. I have Whitethorn Woods to read, also, so I feel a bit let down that I wasn?t made aware of this by the author when I was choosing which book to start with.
