Celebrity Magazine 'HEAT'

Advantages: Good for celebrity gossip, a well written magazine
Disadvantages: to much celebrity nonsense

...~~~~~ Background of me and 'the mag' ~~~~~ I love my magazines. Like any other woman I suppose. I love gossip, I love advice (sometimes we are too scared to ask even our friends and family for advice on some things,) I love reading about the misfortunes of celebrities, (sick i know) and I love the odd story which is real life and 'non-celeb related' these stories after all, bring us down to earth, sadden us and even inspire us. There comes a point however when you realise that you are buying about 4 magazines a week, is it because i'm really that shallow???? Really that vain???? Short answer...... Yes, magazines probe vanity. Longer answer.....No, the reason woman buy lots of different magazines, is simply that each magazine contains different things, and we woman, need everything!!!!! ~~~~~~~~ down to the heat...

Sometimes, it seems as though I can't even walk into a shop without my gaze being drawn towards the magazine ailse, and I end up buying the magazine. But how does it compare with its competitors? Advantages: Full of gossip, cheap, it's weekly, lots of promotions

...Heat is a weekly gossip magazine, costing £1.45, I think mainly directed towards females of the younger generation, but even male pensioners would be partial to this! My friend's 90 year-old great grandmother has a subscription to this and reads it from cover to cover religiously, so there you go, very versatile and people of all ages love it! There are many other celebrity entertainment magazines out there: OK, Hello, Now, Closer, Sneak, etc, so what makes Heat stand out? I'll tell you what's wrong with all the other mags: -OK treats celebrities like they're God and completely arse-lick them. -Now is too mumsy, and the interviews with celebrities featured are usually from Emmerdale or something. -Sneak - what's with the Gareth Gates obsession? -Closer I've never tried, so this might be as good, but I doubt it! 'Heat Magazine' - Cold as ice.

Advantages: 'Spotted' section is great, some good interviews
Disadvantages: No exclusives, too focused on 'celebrities' weight

...If I was writing this review 2 years ago, it would be very positive indeed and full of praise. It used to be funny, relevant, up to date, and interesting....not any more!! About a year and a half ago they changed the style, and in my opinion turned it into a picture book. Half of the magazine is pages of massive pictures with a small box of text, and the other half is full of boring stories about so called celebrities that we read about 2 weeks ago in other magazines. The only good bits in my opinion are the letters page (maybe because the Heat team didn't write it?), the big interview (which is actually sometimes quite interesting) and the 'spotted' page. The rest of it is a waste of paper to me. Nowadays, almost every issue has something to do with celebrities weight, one week they're too big and the next too small. It's also...

Heat Mag - No.1 read

Advantages: Cheap and easily avaliable. Good laugh.
Disadvantages: Can seem a bit cheesy on first sight

...What can i say - i think Heat magazine is great. I have been reading it for a number of years now and really it just seems to get better. I realise on first looking at the magazine it can seem cheesy. But i would really recommend people giving it try. First the price is good. It only costs £1.50 which is much cheaper than other magazines like Marie Claire etc. I know it is thinner than Marie Claire etc. but these magazines are often filled up with adverts anyway. Heat does have adverts but it is not filled with them. It is weekly which i like as you don't have to wait a month for the new copy to come out. It is easily available as well, in supermarkets, WH Smiths, newsagents etc. You can also subscribe to it which would work out cheaper. It's main focus is celebrities. The Heat Is On!!!!!!

Advantages: trashy fun

...Heat magazine....... I have to admit it, although rather ashamed to, but I love a bit of trashy celebrity gossip on a regular basis. I find reading about the lives of people who get paid to be under the spotlight sometimes rather uplifting and as my friends are mostly into the same things as me it gives us something else to chat mindlessly about that isn't work or children! Heat magazine is, I find, the best celebrity magazine available although costing fractionally more than others on the shelves it is worth paying that bit extra for. Heat costs £1.65pence which is more than Closer which costs £1.30pence and Star that is sold at the bargain price of 65pence (not that I have gone out this evening and splashed out on all three magazines or anything!!!) ...Ok, I admit it, I'm a gossip-oholic and very week I buy Heat magazine for my fix. It's published weekly and is usually available on a Tuesday from most supermarkets and newsagents and costs £1.45. The first page with the contents always has a section called 'Everyone's talking about...' which usually sums up the main celebrity gossip story that's going around. This week's (issue 213) is about the breakup of Steve McFadden and Lucy Benjamin (from Eastenders for those who've never heard of them).
