...Are our lives really so empty that we feel we have to fill the void by reading about "celebrities'" lifestyles? Today I have been unfortunate enough to have been given a copy of Hello! magazine (there is no way on this earth I would buy it). Still - there is one good thing to come from it - an opportunity to write an opinion for Ciao. Hello! magazine is a glossy mag full of pictures of celebrities arriving at parties, celebrities at award ceremonies, celebrities relaxing in their 10 acre mansions; oh, yes, and let us not forget the frequent articles on the Royal Family and anyone even remotely connected with the Royals. In this article I have here in front of me; dated March 6 2001; there are features on all of the above. What I cannot believe is that there is a 20-page (yes 20 pages!!!) feature on Celine Dion and her "miracle...

Why hello there, welcome to this review

Advantages: Beutiful sounds, tunes, story telling lyrics
Disadvantages: Not everyones cup of tea.

...This was Tim Buckley's second album of 9 (the first being the self-titled Tim Buckley), with lyrics co-written with Larry Beckett and music played by Tim, Jim Feildman, CC collin's among others. This album was out before Tim took a go at advant-garde (seen in his Starsailor album), and has a soft rock appeal with political under-tones in many of Beckett's lyrics, with Tim's undaunting note perfect voice hitting the right tune through out. ...Sometimes we need something to do to amuse ourselves... no not that, get your mind out of the gutter. We write, we paint, we play a sport and we read. The list could probably go on forever. Hello Mr Brown Bear

Advantages: Easy to Read and Kids Love iyt
Disadvantages: Boring for those reading it

...Like any mother I read to my three year old son everynight. He choses the books we read and he usually chooses the same one everyday. I have to try and hide books so that he chooses different ones. Anyway I picked up this from our local Just Books and it costs about £3.99. It was a Christmas present. The story itself is about a bear who says hello to a tree and all the animals who live in the tree say hello back. The good thing about it, is they all have different voices so you have to be deep voiced, or sqeaky voiced and kids love this. My son giggled at my attempts. Then the rain starts and all the animals say goodbye. Again the same deep, soft and sqeaky voices have to be used. The pictures are bold and deep in colourful. The writing it self is big and bold also and I am sure when my son starts to read himself he will be...

HELLO! Do I know you??

Advantages: Keep up to date in all things glossy and shiny!
Disadvantages: No real news. Just pretty pictures!

...As I have stated in my other reviews, I am a bit of a nosy parker and I love looking at what is going on in other peoples lives. Why? No other reason then because I love people watching. Looking at what others are doing, how others live their life. Everyone is different. This also includes celebrities. I am not a huge fan of the news, but, celebrity news... now that is what I am interested in. You can call me shallow, sad, whatever?. But I can not help it and I am not ashamed to say I actually reading about Victoria Beckham and her day out shopping for specially made blue metallic Bonsai trees (or something along those lines?.!) Goodbye East Germany, Hello Ostalgie.

Advantages: Historically accurate, looks great
Disadvantages: Minor Plot flaw.

...Goodbye Lenin! begins with a handheld camera shooting pictures from the past, an idyllic childhood and two siblings playing in the garden. These two siblings are Alexander (Alex- Daniel Bruehl) and Ariane (Maria Simon). We find out in this sequence that Alex' father had defected to the West, to live with his new girlfriend. In Alex' words, "we never spoke of him again." The film is largely narrated, with sparse pockets of dialogue, but this works quite well as the narrator is narrating Alex' own thoughts. We see Alex' mother, Christiane (Katrin Sass) becoming increasingly involved in the socialist life, conducting groups of the 'Young Pioneers', and writing carefully worded but cutting letters of complaint to the authorities. The film then fast forwards ten years to October 1989, and Alex has grown up and is working for a T.V repair...

"Ciao! Ciao!"

Advantages: Repetitive text for young children to join in with.
Disadvantages: Not a fantastically riveting storyline.

...This is a very simple book, ideal for pre-school children or emergent readers. ~ Hello, Goodbye ~ This book hasn't got a fantastically enthralling storyline but pre-school children enjoy joining in with the repetitive text. It begins with a big brown bear saying "Hello!" next to a big tree that is standing quietly in the sunshine. Two bees fly above him and respond with "Hello! Hello!" A host of other animals come along to say hello to the big brown bear, until............. the rain starts to fall. At this point the animals who had greeted the bear with hello all begin to run for shelter saying "Goodbye!" Hello Goodbye Yellow Brick Road

Advantages: Classic tunes
Disadvantages: Some mysogyny, however it's spelt!

...I think this is Elton?s best album, even though it was originally a double, there are very few songs that sound like filler. It?s very 70s, with glam (?Bennie & the Jets? ); cod-reggae (?Jamaica jerk off?); and songs which were probably quite influential in their way - like The Rubettes (?Your sister can?t twist but she can rock n roll?) and many of the uptempo numbers sound like Meatloaf. There are many musical styles on here. The start of ?Saturday night?s all right for fighting? could be The Who (they later recorded their own version of it for the ?Two rooms? tribute).
