Henry the cleaner . . .

.... . . This review is on the very robust Henry Numatic model HVR 200. You will know it as soon as you see it as it has a smiley face, and comes in four colours, red green blue & yellow, well now they have added another to the range - PINK!!! Technically this one is called HETTY, but it is identical otherwise. The shape is cylindrical, but not laid down, it is upright, like an oil drum, and has a buffer ring surrounding it, which does not mark walls. It is mounted on castors, and so is easy to move about. As for the suction, I can only say it is brilliant, the cable is wound up neatly in it's own drum, all tools are there, the machine itself is light enough to be carried up the stairs, what more could you want in a cleaner? There is of course a down side, but not much of one, for instance it is not easy to vacuum the stairs as...

Advantages: Powerful, manouverable, quiet, easy rewind, strong
Disadvantages: Expensive, not too keen on fluff

...OK, I admit it, I abuse my vacuum cleaners. Report me to the authorities if you like. I don't use vacuum cleaners to remove the odd bit of dust on my carpets, no, I expect them to suck up everything... guinea pig poo, sawdust, hay, rubble, soil, grit, dead leaves, cat and dog hair to name but a few. Basically, I expect the performance of a commercial cleaner for the price of a domestic one. I used to have an Electrolux Chic 1300 cylinder vacuum cleaner. Unfortunately it didn't like the abuse I gave it. It finally decided it had had enough when I used it to hoover up the rubble in my attic (before laying loft insulation). This vacuum cleaner cost about £70 and lasted 4 years. About the time I blew my Electrolux up, my mother in law bought a Henry as this had been recommended to her by her decorator who had one himself, using...

HAPPY WITH HENRY

Advantages: Powerful, low maintenance, Simple
Disadvantages: Can be a bit awkward

...I have been the proud owner of a Henry for over two years and in my opinion it is one of the best values for money products I have purchased. It is simple to operate with a large red power button as its only control. It has a large capacity bag and is very simple to empty. The power lead is exceptionally long and winds in and out so you don't have lengths of cable all over the floor. The motor is powerful and suction is extremely good. It picks up well on all floor surfaces in our home, carpets, wood and tiles. I also have no problems using it to clean out our car. To top it all off Henry's smiley face also oozes character. The only slight negative is he is a little bit tall which occasionally means he can topple over if you're not careful. I would have no reservation in recommending Henry....

Disadvantages: Heavy to carry for those with mobility problems

...with ease without changing power point sockets and is virtually unbreakable, with an uncrushable hose a generously long sturdy flex, which you unwind or wind back in, via a sturdy handle attached to the top of him, which is impossible to break. Henry comes complete with 4 very strong metal tubes with telescopic view; a height adjusting head brush/ attachments, with a choice of 5 different brushes/attachments. The brush head has a strong lever which can be adjusted in 2 positions-operated by your foot (without bending) One for carpets/delicate tasselled rugs, and another for bare floors, handy for safeguarding against snags on your thick pile best carpets or glide along smooth wooden floors without scratching. Henry weighs just under 6 kilos. I was annoyed that the material bags come as an ?additional? extra. I mean how can they say bags...

Henry the First

Advantages: Reliability and effectiveness

...Quite simply the best vacuum cleaner on the market for domestic use. Although it may be a bit heavy for some the Henry is a robust efficient bit of kit. Made by Numatic in Chard, Somerset, purchasing one of these will also help what is left of the UK's manufacturing industry. The overall design hasn't altered in years which says something about the quality and reliability of this cleaner. The Henry can be used bagless or bags can be purchased separately and the bags are widely available in local shops and also the DIY chains. We pay £6.50 for 10. Probably the only negative point is that Henry is quite heavy. He rolls along quite easily on his wheels but may be a bit cumbersome to carry for some people. The power cord is wound into the unit lid and is fully retractable. However for longer duration uses it is a good idea to unwind...

Revenge Henry Style!

...This is a book which again was bought for my eldest on his 7th Birthday. The book is part of a collection and he now has quite a few of them as he really does enjoy the stories and characters. The book is a paperback and the cover is orange with a picture of Henry at the top holding a spider on some string and the title below this. Henry is my best friend!

Advantages: An all round good performer, cheap and reliable.
Disadvantages: None - he's like a family member!

...Having stormed through a quick succession of 4 vacuum cleaners in as many years, I asked a friend (who also happened to be a cleaner) what she used at home. Well, it was like opening the floodgates. After running through what she categorised as rubbish (3 models of which I'd previously owned) she said that any self-respecting cleaner could only recommend the Henry Numatic. She'd had hers for about 6 years and it was still going strong. She used it both bagless and with the Numatic bags (which she bought on ebay!). ...The Horrid Henry collection of stories is currently the subject of 17 books written for children aged between 6 and 11. The author of these books is Francesca Simon and the subject for the stories, a boy called Henry. As you can probably guess from the title of the collection Henry is a horrid child whereas his brother Peter is perfect. Henry's mum and dad sincerely wish that Henry was like Peter but we don't because then there wouldn't be any fantastic antics from Simon to right her books about. Horrid Henry and the Football Fiend is book number 14 and was published in 2006. The book contains four stories entitled; Horrid Henry peeks at Peter's Diary, Horrid Henry and the Football Fiend, Horrid Henry Goes Shopping and Horrid Henry's Arch Enemy. Each story is roughly 20 pages in length and so is more than manageable for children...
