Advantages: Good packaging, fantastic taste, Good use of ingredients Disadvantages: None at all in my opinion.
...If you have read any of my previous reviews then you will have seen that I sometimes struggle with what to have for my lunch everyday. I tend to get bored quite quickly with food and whilst I have fads of items where I cannot get enough of them, not long after I am soon fed up. I have recently been on a bit of a soup fad but know that before long I will tire of it. Whilst going to heat my soup up in the works kitchen I saw a colleague toasting herself a bagel and then spreading something on it.... This something was Philadelphia Light Garlic and Herb.
So a new idea for my lunch and off I went to my local Supermarket, Tesco to pick myself a tub up. I have never had Kraft's Philadelphia before but have often treated myself to some soft cheeses, especially at Christmas time. A couple of reasons drew me to the product, the fact that it...

Review of General Advice on Herbs
Advantages: Cheaper than buying in the shop all the time Disadvantages: Some hard work needs to be done
...Well after the herb reviews went down so well, I was sat down watching a film (Practical Magic) and it dawned on me, what if all these fantastic feedbacks I keep getting for my reviews need to know about how to make a herb garden ?
So hopefully you will find this useful and hopefully help you on your way to enjoy the world of the herb.
***The Herbs***
The herbs have a history that is full of myth and magic and to be honest there is a lot of rubbish information regarding there properties.
Most herbs that have been brought in to Europe were done so by the Romans, they brought herbs from Greece and the Mediterranean islands.
Herbs are used in medicine and cooking and have been used for 1000's of years, and comes in all shapes and sizes and can be grown in tubs or in the garden.
Some herbs like the Basil herb, isn't just...
Advantages: Taste, variety and uses Disadvantages: None I've discovered
...Cooking with herbs has become more and more common lately, almost a new trend in the cookery world.
Whilst herbs have been used for more years than are documented for a variety of uses, from many more rescent years we seem to have ignored their flavours, and benifits.
My own small garden is home to several hundred varieties of herb, and my windowsil is home to few aswell,I use them almost daily and find endless uses for them.
Most supermarkets sell herbs either dried, frozen or fresh.Which ever way you buy them they can be expensive.
Buying dried herbs - Although they are very convinient and keep well, they do not have the flavour of fresh herbs or of home dried herbs.A small jar of about 28g will set you back in the region of £1.
Buying frozen herbs - A slightly more flavourful option than dried herbs, but with a slightly...
Advantages: big portions, good atmospere, good music Disadvantages: bad prices, bad service
...belle and herbs is a nice cafe with good food, interesting people and good atmosphere. since i live in heaton i used to visit the place once a month. i was never really bothered by the little problems like: stained cuttlery or glasses, expensive food uncomfortable chairs etc. because the atmosphere was winning me over. i always had a problem though with how long it takes to be served (45 minutes average, at least when i've been there) but never made a big deal out of it.
I went this morning again for breakfast. 2 of the 4 of us arrived 10 minutes earlier than me and my friend but they ordered our food before we arrive so that we can all get served together. 10 minutes after me and my friend have arrived, the othe two of our company got their food. 20 minutes later they had finished their food. we kept waiting... when after staying in...
Advantages: Great for flavour, use in medical properties Disadvantages: Some are a little hard to find
...Herbs are aromatic plants grown for culinary purposes, although many are also attributed the medical properties. Fresh herbs lend a superb flavour to all kinds of dishes. Their flavour is derived from essential oils found in the leaves and stems, which are released when the herb is heated, crushed or chopped.
The majority of herbs, even if they do not come from this country can be grown in the garden.
Here are some of the herbs that we use.
Angelica:
All parts of this tall plant are used for flavouring, though only the young candied stem is available commerically. Crystallised angelica stems are used to decorate cakes and desserts. The root is good for stewing with acid friuts such as rhubarb. Angelica leaves can be chopped and used to flavour salads or fish dishes.
Balm, Lemon:
With their wonderful lemony scent and taste...
...This is the second of my ops on crackers from this company. The first op covered the Salt and Black Pepper variety. This op covers the Garden Herb variety. I bought them at the same time, in the same shop, and I've not seen these before either!.
** What are they? **
They are rice crackers, containing herbs. I find them really good for a quick snack (they are probably better for you than crisps too!)
** What's the pack like? **
The pack is black, fading into a green colour. There is a picture of the crackers on the front, and they do look identical to the contents. There is some Chinese type writing on the pack (it probably says "eat these Lazza123 you are a fat boy now"!!)
On the top of the pack are the words "Unleash the taste"
The pack costs 49 pence, for that you get 50g of crackers, The nutritional...
Advantages: Only 18 calories each, don't cost loads, taste nice Disadvantages: Fall to pieces very easily, bit dry on their own
...consider to be a cracker, but I am willing to try these and see what they are like.
At this point I decide to give the crackers a sniff to check out the aroma - I can make out maybe some basil or thyme in the herby-oniony smell that fills my nostrils, but don't dare sniff any harder as I have already managed to fill my nasal cavity with tiny cracker crumbs. The smell is actually quite pleasant and I am beginning to feel a bit more positive about actually eating these things.
I try the first cracker on it's own. I am actually quite pleasantly surprised as it has a nice wheaty taste which hasn't been overpowered by the herbs or onions - it is definitely thyme in the mixed herbs, very nice it is too! The texture is somewhat lacking though as I could only describe it as dry, with a hint of cardboard-y chewiness.
Perhaps the texture will...
Advantages: Makes a great change if you're dieting Disadvantages: may have more than your suppose to
...I first found this whilst looking for something as a change to the usual dieting foods.
I could smell the chicken as I walked around the store, the chickens are spit roasted there in front of you and the day I bought mine they had just come of the spit. Asda sell a few different kinds of chickens including a spicy and a plain version.
back to the Garlic and herb, at first sight it is easy to tell the difference between this and the plain chicken as the skin is covered by little flecks of herbs. I requested my chicken and it was packed straight from the spit into a foil lined bag to help retain the heat. I bought the rest of my shopping and paid, the chicken itself been £2.99.
I live about a 15 min drive from my nearest Asda, and when I arrived home, I put the shopping away and then decided to check out the chicken, this must...
Advantages: An easy way to get a fresh taste and sharpness into your cooking Disadvantages: Might be slightly expensive at first
...The best way to enjoy herbs is by using them fresh from the garden. Of course if you don?t have a garden then you might think that you will be unable to grow herbs, but many people forget that herbs grow very well on windowsills. You can now buy fresh herbs already planted in all good supermarkets. They may seem expensive for what they are but you can leave them on your windowsill and because they are growing with a little care and attention you will always have a supply of fresh herbs. The best ones to get that are most versatile in all cooking are: mint, chives, rosemary and parsley. Although basil is also a very good herb many people find the taste and smell of it too overpowering and so unless making a pesto it should be used sparingly in cooking.
Many people have problems with the herbs dying and wilting. I have found the best...
