Although HP print cartridges are coming down in price you can still expect to pay a lot more than other substitute brands. The real question is whether the extra money is worth it. With some of the alternative products on the market today I am inclined to believe you can the same quality for less money. Many alternative ink cartridges contain more ink than official HP cartridges, however the problem with these cartridges is not always being sure of the quality of the product you are buying, nor the reliabilty... HP 22 PACKAGING AND CONTENTS The packaging itself makes it look as if you are getting a larger cartridge than the one you actually get. ...This toner is designed for use with the HP Laserjet 1100 series printers. We have a number of these printers at the company I work for and so make use of these toners quite a lot. The toner is quoted as having a page life of 2,500 pages and retails at a price of around £40. The cartridge comes packaged in a large box with the toner type clearly labelled on the front, which is handy. The toner is secured within the box by two large cardboard holders and comes in package that closely resembles bin bag material! In Use This toner cartridge has been sensibly designed so as to make it a fairly easy process when removing an old toner and replacing with a new one. The toner itself slots into the printer, and so this means the old toner just needs to be removed from the holding slots in the toner bay and the new one put in its place... Read review

...The HP 840C is my second HP printer, my first one being the 640C which I purchased a couple of years ago. I have had my HP 840C for 6 months now and i'm very happy with it. It has been a very sturdy machine, with good, fast printing speeds, excellent quality printing both on cheap and expensive paper, and also you dont need to use it on best quality to get good results as the standard quality is good enough for most jobs. I haven't seen a better printer for printing out photos on than the photo quality that we can see in this printer when used with HP photo quality paper. Operation of this machine and maintenance tasks like changing ink cartridges is an absolute doddle. I haven't had to replace my cartridges yet however because this printer is very economical when it comes to ink use and you can also use cheap paper for generic tasks... Read review

...I own an HP Deskjet 950C (Most cartridge distributors websites have compatibility tables to find the right cartridge for your printer) and I've been buying these HP ink cartridges for a few years now. So far I have never had problem with them. I think I do an average amount of printing; A few photos, documents, maps for driving, etc. and these cartridges have always performed flawlessly. But then you'd expect them to wouldn't you? They are made by a reputable manufacturer and are specifically designed for use in my printer. They come well packaged, vacuum sealed in plastic to prevent the ink drying out, and securly contained inside sturdy cardboard cases. They are, generally, easy to install by following the instructions that came with the printer. I don't have experience with every HP printer, but I have installed ink cartridges... Read review

If I’m honest I don’t know if I am the right person to write this review as I myself did not decide to buy a printer that needed this cartridge as the printer came free with the computer, and obviously a lot of you will be in the same position. If I were to be in the position of deciding whether to buy this cartridge and/or a corresponding printer, I probably wouldn’t, as I find I'm having to replace the cartridge quite frequently. The cartridge contains 8ml of Yellow, cyan and magenta ink, however, it is possible to get the same cartridge from other brands with double the ink, although sometimes the quality can be lacking, as the HP printer best supports HP products.
