HP PSC 1215 All in one printer/scanner/photocopier

Advantages: Its 3 in 1 so you don't have loads of cables everywhere

...About 2 years ago I decided it was time to update my printer and after scanning around for some bargains I decided that the HP PSC 1215 would be the one for me. It was just what I needed a printer/scanner and copier all in one with a free 3.1 MP camera chucked in to seal the deal. The scanner copier is situated at the top and the paperfeeder is located at the front. There is also a LED display on the top with a group of buttons. HP C4480 Printer - Great all-rounder

Advantages: High text and image print quality; prints, scans and copies; good value for money
Disadvantages: Not got wireless; software is a bit complicated

...; it is rather complicated, but is ok once you've figured it out and got the hang of it. Changing the cartridges is really simple - this printer takes HP 350 black ink cartridges, and HP 351 tri-colour ink cartridges. These are also available in 'XL' sizes, which provide a lot more ink for your money - really good value. Special HP 348 photo cartridges are also available, for those wanting to print high-quality images. The front flap folds in completely flush with the rest of the printer, which is great for saving space when it's out of use. Whilst the printer offers fantastic value for money and all the features you could possibly want, the software is probably the main thing that lets it down. The software is slightly fiddly to use and not overly logical, however you soon get used to it, and personally I do not often need to use it...

HP 5940 - Brilliant, cheap printer!

For less than £60 you can have a printer that is capable of printing good quality edge to edge photos or can print up to 30 pages of text a minute! Installation This printer was immensely easy to install. You didn't have to print a test page and check alignment then tell it what to do? It just got on with it. Plug it in, stick in the cd and voila! Printer! Annoyingly it didn't come with a usb lead so you have to buy one separately, but I think that this is fairly common practice these days. The HP 300's bigger, stronger brother

Those of you who remember my stunning, wrongly uncrowned review of the HP300 will remember how it ran out after just 140 pages. Well, this time I splashed out on the upgrade. Review of HP Deskjet 3820

HP D1470 Inkjet Printer.

Advantages: Very cheap, durable, and excellent for the amateur computer user.
Disadvantages: Tray a little too small, and a few issues with packing the tray with paper.

...the £30 mark. It is durable, unfussy, and was simple to set-up (plug-and-play). My previous printer was a Lexmark all-in-one, and I honesty did have problems with the Lexmark in terms of installation and reinstallation when the printer was unplugged, so the D1470 was a surprise. It works through USB, and I tested it on Vista, with no problems. The installation booklet included was, as befitting the price (and perhaps the confidence in compatibility), sparsely-detailed, but HP do offer good support at a central level. The printing is fast, bar complex tables and colour-heavy projects, and I was able to get around 150-200 pages of text from one black cartridge, so hopefully this gives you an idea of the economics of the printer (at best just over 6p per page, not taking into account the cost of paper etc.) Part of my testing...
