King Henry VIII's Hidden Treasures
Advantages: You learn about the real people of Tudor times, not just Royalty!
Disadvantages: Expensive maybe, location might be considered too out of the way.
..., archery and falconry." We didn't see any of that, but if I had been visiting this as a 10 year old, I'm sure I would have found it enjoyable.
I couldn't tell if the four or five staff who we met were employed by the School or they came up from Portsmouth with the exhibits but we found them all to be friendly and receptive.
I would highly recommend a visit to 'Hidden Treasures'. I came away from it far more interested in the time of the Tudors than walking around any historic house looking at paintings of noblemen has ever done.
~ Lastly ~
Did you know:
* it was compulsory for all boys from the age of 6 to learn archery in England? Presumably with a view to protecting the Kingdom, in a medieval form of National Service; and that
* The Mary Rose sank in only 14 metres of water?

Adults: £8...

A really hidden treasure
Advantages: Beautiful gardens, fascinating history, hilarious attendants
Disadvantages: Not so good without an English speaking guide, hard to find
...delightful gardens. The gardens alone are worth a visit; a narrow footpath winds around the gardens that encircle the house. Here and there the path branches off to a hidden arbour with a bench where you can sit undisturbed and enjoy the tranquillity with only the sound of birdsong and the occasional colourful butterfly to grab your attention.
Next to the house is a modern building, a visitors' centre that has an extensive reading room and photographic exhibitions devoted to Chekhov's life and work. Unfortunately most of the captions are in Russian only. Admission tickets are sold from this building and entrance is the equivalent of just over £1.00.
It is not entirely obvious where to start the tour of the house but only one door opens from the outside and as you go in an elderly lady leaps up from her chair, puts down her knitting...

National Treasure
Advantages: read opp
Disadvantages: read opp
...National Treasure has to be one of my favourite Disney Movies in the last 10 years, and even though I think of myself logically too old for Disney films, this particular film has such a likeable, watchable quality to it, and at times reminds me of my younger years. For me national treasure has everything, action, comedy, family feel movie, yet at the same time not too cheesy. The cast is brilliant, and with the addition of Nicholas Cage, Sean Bean and Jon Voight, this film certainly has some of Hollywood's best.
Plot:
The story is set in America, and the plot centres around Benjamin Franklin Gates (Nicolas Cage), who is a obsessed historian, who's family through generations have believe in a legend that their was gold hidden somewhere in America, by the founding fathers of America, to protect it from British Soldiers. However, to...

The Hidden Review
Advantages: Good chase scenes
Disadvantages: Lackluster ending
...The Hidden is a rather obscure 1980's sci-fi/action film, starring Michael Nouri and Kyle MacLachlan, of "Twin Peaks" and "Showgirls" fame. Here he plays Lloyd Gallagher, an FBI agent who arrives in the city and is immediately paired up with Tom Beck (Michael Nouri) to tackle a bizarre event that seems to be happening. Normal, everyday people who no connection have all seemingly turned into psychopathic monsters, killing anyone who gets in their way.
It turns out they do have a connection, in that they all become inhabited by an alien with a penchant for violence and Ferraris. Will Beck and Gallagher be able to stop the alien before yet more lives are lost?
I bought this because of a recommendation on a forum I visit. I don't think I'd heard of it before, but I'm willing to give anything a try. After watching "The Hidden", I...

Modern Day Treasure Hunters
Advantages: Great acting and story
Disadvantages: Sean Bean playing the baddie again!
...Well this was my hubby?s film choice and I am just so glad it was not a western. I was a bit dubious as he bought this film and the sequel in one go so I was praying that this film would be good as I knew I would have to watch the second one regardless even if I did not enjoy the first.
The film stars Nicholas Cage who plays the role of Benjamin Franklin Gates who as a little boy learns of some ancient treasure from his Grandfather. We then see Benjamin grown up where he is a treasure hunter and is in search of this missing treasure.
Benjamin has to follow and work out clues and his helped by his friend but soon finds out that certain people on his team are not working with him and are actually looking for the treasure for themselves. Sean Bean plays the role of the baddie who is forever on Benjamin? trail and trying to beat his...

National Treasure review
Advantages: Engaging story
Disadvantages: Can drag a little
...National Treasure is an action adventure starring Nicholas Cage and directed by Jon Turteltaub, who also directed "Cool Runnings".
In this film, Benjamin Gates (Cage) is descended from treasure hunters, and, as a boy, his grandfather tells him of a treasure over 1000 years ago that has changed hands many times and has most recently been hidden by the founding fathers. Clues have apparently been hidden on the one dollar bill and on the back of the Declaration of Independence.
As we catch up to Gates as an adult, he believes he has found the treasure, only to come up with another clue. One of his associates, Ian (Sean Bean), leaves Ben to die in order to steal the declaration and find out the clue. Ben knows he is less than trustworthy and figures the only way to stop him is to steal it himself! Thus starts an epic journey across...

A treasure to watch!
Advantages: Good story with twists
Disadvantages: Charecters a bit annoying
...The story starts with a young Ben Gates looking for something in his grandfathers attic. His grandfather appears and tells of a story of men who found treasure and it was later hidden but clues were given to it's whereabouts. The last clue was given to Ben's great great grandfather. However, Ben's family have never found the treasure.
Skip forward 30 years and we see Ben (played by Nicolas Cage) helped by Ian (played by Sean Bean) finding a ship that holds another clue.
Ben works out that the map to the treasure is on the back of one of the most secure pieces of paper in the world, The Declaration of Independence.
Ian's greed makes him abandon Ben and he resolves to steal The Declaration. Ben realises this and does the only thing he can to save the Declaration, he must steal it first! However, the FBI are close behind him.
Will Ben...

A hidden treasure
Advantages: Plenty of space with a fab view
Disadvantages: Not so easy to find
...It may be a hidden treasure but when you find it, it is well worth it!!!!
HOLYROOD apartHOTEL overlooks Arthur's Seat in Edinburgh and is very close to the new Scottish Parliment making it only a few minutes in a taxi from Princes Street. So the location is excellent, especially with so many pubs and entertainment only a few minutes away.
You could easily drive past the HOLYROOD apartHOTEL but a call to reception soon pointed us in the right direction and straight into the hotel car park. The car park is £5.00 per night but it very secure.
Check in was no problem, reception were very helpful and then guided us to our room on the 5th floor.
The apartment was lovely - very spacious and very clean. It consisted of 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, and open plan living room, dining area and kitchen. The apartment was full of all the mod...

Veliko Tarnovo - Bulgaria's hidden treasure
Advantages: Quaint & beautiful town, lots of history, fortresses, museums
Disadvantages: Litter, stray dogs
...information. This took place when we were there and we watched it from the terrace of a bar just behind the main street - for free!
Veliko Tarnovo is an exceptionally pretty and very interesting town that really demands a visit if you are in Bulgaria for any length of time. Tourists are well catered for and there is plenty to see and do. It is certainly different in that the local authorities have seen something worth developing and promoting in the town, its history and its buildings and have done this sympathetically and with a lot of common sense. There are lots of other places of touristic value in Bulgaria that have not been looked after or are poorly promoted. If only they would now do something about the piles of rubbish hidden behind walls and under bridges, and the packs of stray dogs; none of the dogs were fierce or threatening, but...

A Film To Treasure
Advantages: Solid acting, fun storyline, interesting ideas, fast-paced action
Disadvantages: Very silly and unbelievable in places
...servant Thomas Gates was told a remarkable story of lost treasure and handed a cryptic clue by the last surviving signatory of the Declaration of Independence, successive generations of the Gates family have been trying to decode the clue and discover the location of this fabled horde. Given that it was said to be the lost treasure of the Templars, hidden by the Freemasons to protect it from the British during the Civil War, it is not hard to see how the Gates family have acquired a reputation amongst academics as a bunch of crackpot conspiracy theorists and half-baked treasure hunters. However, inspired by this story as a boy, Benjamin Franklin Gates (Nicholas Cage) grows up to be a maverick historian driven to solving the riddle and redeeming his family name. With the help of his wise-cracking assistant Riley Poole (Justin Bartha), Ben makes...
