West Highland Terriers.
Advantages: Healthy pedigree, charming, playful, happy to see you, active, intelligent
Disadvantages: Need to be socialised / desensitised early. Often puppy farmed
...very long shifts, and i was out probably 7 hrs a day working. Westies are quite good at being left alone - although not recommending this is ideal obviously. That said, if you do ever have a problem with barking / whining when youre out, this only ever occured with Rosie when we'd been lazy on walking her... give her a walk and leave on a radio and she was fine all working day.
Tired dogs dont bark. Westies are brainy so if you leave them with dog toys like the Kong chew, where the treats are in the ball, this will stimulate them and distract them from barking. Just as a by-the-bind, we never had any problems with chewing etc. Think westies are more chasers than chewers - a tennis ball will go a long way in pleasing your little terrier.
In terms of walks - my experience was stimulation is more important - toys interaction etc. That...

Companion for a life time
Advantages: There love, there habits, and companionship
Disadvantages: The digging they do
...This is going to be a review on a dog breed I have a lot of knowledge about and will be about my West Highland Terrier named Hamish.
What they were used for?
----------------------------------
West Highland Terriers are more commonly known as Westies and are famous for their white coat. The breed originated from Scotland where they were used to help find foxes and badgers.
Hamish is very good at chasing away people when I am walking him and this I think is evidence to the past to what they were used for.
My dog Hamish
-------------------
Well Hamish I got as a little puppy and he is now 6 years old. I have grown to love and adore him so much because he is that companion you want in life. I live alone and I was always lonely and felt I could do with a friend and I brought a Westie after seeing one in the advert...

Unconditional love
Advantages: Fun, great temprement, loyal, good travellers
Disadvantages: Skin problems, can be stubborn
...This is a review on owning a West Highland terrier, I made the plunge 12 years ago & it may guide a prospective owner on how to avoid the pitfalls that we didn't know about despite doing research. Firstly some information on this breed of dog:
THE BREED:
The white West Highland terriers for some reason are often confused with the black Scottish terriers which are about the same size & shape & nicknamed 'Scotties'. The West highland terriers are nicknamed 'Westies' and were originally bred to hunt rabbits, rodents & would you believe foxes. Apparently they make the best rat catchers & can out perform a cat.
They stand about 10"-11" in height, with strong muscular legs & shoulders; apparently they have the largest teeth for a small breed of dog with extremely powerful jaws. Their ears are normally upright & their white coats are...

Money Can Buy You Love!
Advantages: Loyalty, trust, affection, companionship
Disadvantages: Mostly cost
...Is a Westie the right dog for you? To begin, here is a brief synopsis of the breed, just in case you've never heard of or seen one before!
West Highland White Terriers are small, white terriers up to about twelve inches (30cms) in height for a dog, slightly less for a bitch. They weigh about 22lbs (10kgs) for an adult male, a little less for a bitch. Their coats are short and white, coarser on the top and soft underneath. They have pointed upright ears that give them an attentive, alert look and a tail held upright, the shape of an inverted carrot. The fur around their head when trimmed to shape gives them their distinctive 'chrysanthemum' head. When my Westie shakes her head and fluffs up her fur, I think she looks like a dandelion clock! Although small, they are strong and muscular. They have a life expectancy of fifteen...

Westie - a super little breed for all ages.
Advantages: Easy to exersise, friendly, small, the kind of pet you can entrust a child to take for a walk.
Disadvantages: Can suffer from eye and skin problems.
...The West Highland Terrier is a very good breed of dog, it is suitable for all ages from children to pensioners. It gives it's owner loyalty for ever.
The size of dog is perfect for a small house or flat, and requires only short walks, and playtimes can take place in gardens or parks.
I do of course recommend you to buy from KC registered, and avoid "Puppy farmers" like the plague. I have not given a guide price as they vary so much, and do not believe in a "book price" for these dogs.
The breed does however suffer from some ailments. Firstly there are eye troubles, in my case these were soon sorted by my very expert vet, but in some dogs the problem simply does not go away, it is just kept under control. This is the case with the next complaint, namely the skin problems they suffer from. In my case the problem...

wonderfull westie
Advantages: full of character. happy little dogs!
Disadvantages: pure breeds are very pricey
...My Westie, Alfie, is now 3 years old, I got him from a breeder when he was 6 weeks old and cost me £200 (he was the runt of the litter and not a full pedigree!). Full Pedigree's generally cost £400+ with females often costing more than the males.
As a puppy I never had any problems with chewing, barking when left alone and was house trained very quickly. He instantly got on with my other dog, Shadow a Golden Retriever and loved playing with the neighbours young children.
He was, a still is, a very stubborn dog, only doing something when if he feels like it and a typical terrier. But has a wonderful character, forever making me laugh with his weird little habits. Which include bringing his lead or bowl to me and chucking them at my feet when he wants him dinner or a walk!
He is not 'yappy' as many other terriers are, he only...

Highlander sequel fails to wow
Advantages: Good handling of a mediochre script
Disadvantages: Script and constant darkness
...Highlander II: The Quickening is the 1991 sequel to the 1986 film Highlander, which pitted immortal Connor MacLeod against an evil immortal at an event known as the Gathering. Director Russell Mulcahy returns for the sequel, as does Christopher Lambert as MacLeod. The film was less successful than the first, with a rather dubious and other-worldly plot and a low level of special effects reducing it to a more cult status than a commercial success.
Follwing the events of Highlander, Connor MacLeod (Lambert) joins forces with scientists to protect a dying ozone. With much of the world unprotected against the sun, they construct a shield, which protects the planet, but has the side effect of causing eternal night. Years on, in 2024, MacLeod is visited in a vision by his old friend Ramirez (Connery) and he sees the evil of General Katana...
