Hilton Metropole, London
Advantages: Great place to stay.
Disadvantages: Slightly pricey, but still worth it.
...and helpful. They seemed to be mostly made up of Australians, which I assumed were students earning their way. Well I've always liked the Aussies, so I was happy there.
Only a very short walk away, was Baker Street and the Sherlock Holmes House. If you're a fan, you can pop in to actually meet them! Also there were some great little shops and lots of Starbucks. These are all great reasons to stay at the Metropole.
So, if you're in London, consider staying at this beautiful Hotel. The foyer is very welcoming, there are a few places to eat in there, and it has a swimmingpool and gym if you're into that sort of thing.
All in all, a pleasurable and relaxing place to stay!
Cheers, BigHairyKev :)...

A very nice hotel - Hilton's London Metropole
Advantages: A really nice good quality hotel
Disadvantages: Room could be updated a little
.... The view out of the window was nothing great, of a police station but in central London I have found very few hotels can offer a good view, and at least this one was not of a brick wall two feet away! There wasn't all that much space, but the room was well designed. The beds were definitely designed for a good night's sleep, with plenty of pillows and a very comfortable matress. The only thing I would say is that the decor was a little dated - but I know the hotel was being refurbished while we were there so maybe they are better now.
We were booked into the hotel's restaurant for dinner on our first night as part of our room package, and the meal we had was way above the standard I expected for such a bargain. The service in the restaurant was brilliant, discreet and efficient and the food was excellent.
After a good night's sleep in...

The London Hilton on Park Lane - It's the Daddy!
Advantages: True five-star oasis of calm and comfort with a few tricks up its sleeve.
Disadvantages: It would be somewhat churlish to nit-pick. Read the review!
...I have just returned, very happy, from the Hilton. I have often returned, happy, from a Hilton, but this has always been - and will always be - THE Hilton. The London Hilton on Park Lane has, always been "The Hilton" and this 28-storey icon is a London landmark that I have wanted to stay in for nigh on 30 years. This weekend, the dream came true. Nor was the bubble burst.
Booking
I booked on-line through the Hilton website and was offered a rate of just under UKP 128, plus taxes. The room-only room rate of UKP 150 (about $300) was something of a snip and it would have been rude not to accept it; it was about half of what you'd normally expect to fork out for a room in this hotel, which holds some quite extraordinary accolades, including "Best Business Hotel in Europe 2005" and "Daily Telegraph Best British Hotel 2002".
I had...

A Fantastic time away at the Hilton!
Advantages: Close to tube station, friendly staff, comfortable rooms
Disadvantages: Would be quite pricey if you dont get a last minute deal
...~~Location~~
The Metropole Hilton hotel is in an ideal location for both business and sightseeing. It is about a ten minute walk from Paddington station and fifteen minute walk from London city centre. However if your not up for walking everyday, it is two minutes away from Edgeware underground station. The hotel is located on the busy Edgeware road, however none of the noise can be heard within the hotel.
~~The Hotel~~
Our first impressions of this hotel were very good, we were greeted by a porter stood at the main doors who pointed us in the direction of the reception area. The reception area is beautiful, the floors are all marble and in my opinion very grand looking! (can you tell I am not used to staying in places like that!?). Close to the reception area is a concierge desk where all the staff are very...

The Hilton without a chihuauhua or a range of perfumes
Advantages: Good rail connections, good for the Excel or London City Airport, but not too remote for the city
Disadvantages: It's expensive but by London terms, you get a lot for your money.
...check out the Hilton in Canary Wharf.
Canary Wharf
Canary Wharf is not like 'real' London so if you are looking for the old world charms of the city and your mental image is based on scenes from Mary Poppins and Oliver Twist, don't go to Canary Wharf. This is London's area of ultra-modern high-rise living and working, built on what were once rough areas of the docklands that were so unattractive that I'm sure I once read that Stanley Kubrick used some of the derelict areas in the nearby Isle of Dogs as sets in one of his Vietnam films. Today Canary Wharf is all shiny glass, metal and concrete with one of the most spectacular Underground stations in London.
FInding the darned place
I thought it would be easy to find. It's called Hilton Canary Wharf so I'd go to Canary Wharf station, step out of the station, look up and spot...

Croydon Hilton is not in Croydon...
Advantages: Breakfast was great when I got it
Disadvantages: Location and lack of top quality service,
...Just over a week ago I was visiting London. As usual, I tend to look for hotel deals a little out of the centre of town as it usually works out much cheaper even when you've factored in the public transport costs (I don't drive.) I am a member of the Hilton Honors scheme - it is free to join and well worth it if you use hotels often as they do have regular special offers and you can earn Hilton points and frequent flyer miles at the same time. See website: http://hhonors.hilton.com - so I thought I would take a look to see what deals there might be.
I was pleasantly surprised to get an offer on the Croydon Hilton for £43.50 a night (Fri/Sat) including breakfast and dinner the first night. This worked out more than £20 cheaper than my usual choice of the Holiday Inn Express in Croydon. The Hilton Honors website is simple to...

Gatwick Hilton
Advantages: Sounds prestigious
Disadvantages: Not good value for money
...Three weeks ago my husband and myself went to Austria on holiday. Now, normally, we would book our flight from Stanstead as it's just down the road, so to speak, but as this holiday was a present from one of our daughters and her husband, we accepted gratefully what she had arranged, which was a flight from Gatwick to Salzburg leaving at 6.05am.
I didn't fancy spending all night travelling from Suffolk to Gatwick in time for the check in at 4.00am, so we decided to book a hotel close to the airport and travel down the night before. Well, I surfed the net and discovered the Gatwick Hilton for £139 for a double room. It sounded a lot but this also included 15 days parking, which would have cost around £70-80 on its own, and we didn't require breakfast that early in the morning. So, £139 for the room and parking seemed like a small price...

Hilton Olympia ends up on Medallists' Podium
Advantages: Comfortable, friendly and pretty stylish London hotel
Disadvantages: The movie channel didn't work properly. Minor criticism.
...Hilton fan, though I may well appear to be, it was Priceline who, at a very reasonable £45 for the night, selected this hotel for me. Rarely, I was away-from-home-alone at a Meet-and-Greet in London and I'd booked the stay well in advance. The price was exceptional value, and being an Hhonors Gold VIP, I was pleased to have been allocated to the Hilton, even if its location was not entirely convenient for my proposed meeting on the other side of town, in Fleet Street. And, anyway, it's well connected by buses and tubes (ie underground trains), so what the hell? I was a very happy bunny.
And then Al Q'aeda (it's alleged) decided to start bombing London - specialising, in a somewhat incompetent fashion, in tubes and buses. I thought long and hard. Do I avoid the terror and stay at home, or do I make a statement and go to meet what...

Swimming in Hilton!!
Advantages: Near airport
Disadvantages: "airport hotel" but 4 * hotel
.... And not even room 902, actually now when I wrote this I can?t even remember my hotel room number. I think it?s one of those things you just don?t put in your mind.
* Booking *
You can book hotel rooms from Hilton Hotel web page or using another travel agents and their web page. I didn't need to book room because my company did it for me. Room prices are around 65 £ and up. My room was 50£ per night when two person is sharing, so I ended to pay only 25£ per night. It was my company's special deal with hotel chain.
* How to get there: *
Hilton Stansted Hotel is just 10min by shuttle bus from Stansted airport and its well "airport hotel" even it has whopping 4 stars!! (* * * * ) Shuttle transfers are charged at £2 per adult return (going to airport was free!!!!), children 16 or under travel free. Coach Service runs 04.00 - midnight...

Hilton Hotel, Gatwick
Advantages: Right on the Airport doorstep and connected via walkways.
Disadvantages: NOT cheap!
...walk back into the airport to eat and drink if you are staying the day before a trip. Otherwise its the hotel restaurant where they like you to book but you'll get straight in as I never saw it busy!
There is a lounge area, with a few dozen tables in the centre area with waitress service. It can be a little slow especially if its busy.
Consider signing up for the Hilton Honors card before you go. Its free but will enable you to get to check in or out quicker than other people.
BOTTOM LINE:
Good Point: You can walk to the airport in about 5 mins so NO fiddleing about with getting curtsey buses!
Bad Point: It'll cost a bit more than other hotels but the convenience of the location could well make up for it....
