Hitachi TravelStar, What a Star
Review of Hitachi TravelStar 7K100 100 GB by
lowerboscadjack
Advantages: Quite, low power consumption, high capacity
Disadvantages: Expensive
...I have been using a Hitachi TravelStar for a long time now, I have had not problems with it and I have given it a good run for the price I paid for it.
I originally started out with the 80gb model of this hard disk. I had absolutely no problems with it. (I now have the 100gb model as the laptop it was in was broken in a car accident).
I had the 80gb model for a year and never gave me any trouble. It was:
· Fast
· Reliable
· Quite
· Super low power consumption
· Had a quick spin up time
· Very quick seek time
· Standard 5 year warranty
· Very helpful warranty/customer support
Hitachi's customer warranty claims support is like no other that I have come across before. You go onto there website, fill out a warrant claim form; package the device (hard disk in my case) in the way they require. Once you have sent it to them and they receive...

Travelstar, the dummy's dream.
Review of Hitachi TravelStar 7K100 80 GB by
mags1951
Advantages: Easy Install - a dummy cna do it, I did! Very fast and quiet in use.
Disadvantages: None I can tell
...Being fairly hardware illerate, I put off replacing the HDD on my Dell Inspiron laptop as long as I could. Once it started to take 25 minutes to boot up and generated about 15 red alerts in the Windows XP event log, I thought "I am really going to have to go for it".
I had an IBM 60 GB HDD in place, which was noisy when spinning, set the fan off incessantly and was constantly giving me Blue Screen of Death (BSODs).
I started by internet researching and using the Dell forum to suss out the right disk to replace mine with. Taking a recommendation from a forum member, I looked first of all at the Travelstar 7K80 but decided to go for the newer version. I replaced a 60GB 5400rpm HDD with a 80GB 7200rpm HDD.
I spent a day copying filed to CD, all my docs, pictures, music, software downloads, license/registration numbers etc and wrote...

Customer Service 2ND to None
Review of Hitachi - Customer Service by
vestyboy
Advantages: Swift, friendly and efficient service
Disadvantages: NONE
...I feel i have to write this as i have just experienced the EXCELLENT customer service department of Hitachi.
I won a 28" TV in a Sky Digital prize draw, with the TV being delevered direct from Hitachi. I was contacted to arrange a conveinient delivery time, which was met by the couriers. When the TV arrived it did not include a stand, and the TV was too big to go on the stand i already had.
I rang Hitachi direct who advised the stand for the model TV i had won could be purchased direct from Hitachi for £24.95, which i thought was more than reasonable. They advised the address to send the cheque.
I posted the chque and was amazed when the stand turned up within only 3 days of me posting the letter, not even enough time for them to make sure the cheque cleared.
So i set up the TV and it didn't work. I rand Hitachi again at 2.00pm...

The T42 - a good all round machine
Review of ThinkPad T42 2373 - Pentium M 735 1.7 GHz - 14.1" TFT by
foxuk
Advantages: Slim, very light, IBM cachet, good screen, fantastic keyboard
Disadvantages: Build quality perhaps, ticking hard drive
.... My T-41 had a similar spec drive, but it was a Fujitsu one and didn't tick. The T42 has a Hitachi Travelstar drive. Both were made around the same time, according to the IBM site. My T42 seems to have had a rather long shelf time. While we're on hard drive issues, I've also heard rumours that a lot of the T-42's made in 2005 have hard drives going bad and having to be returned to base for replacement. Just google it, and you'll probably come up with something.
I've been a fan of IBM thinkpads for a while now, having had the T30 and the T41 before this one. I resisted from buying the T43 (the T60 is out of my price range anyway) since online reviews don't really rate it very high. The first thing you do notice when you take it out of the box is how flimsier it is than the other 2 models. I mean flimsier, and not flimsy. After all the T42...

Drives us crazy!
Review of Hitachi PowerHouse 1100 by
rlacey
Advantages: Excellent Sucking! - Good on edges
Disadvantages: Attachments keep coming off
...The Hitachi Powerhouse 1100 "To the Edge" hoover has to be one of the worst we have ever purchased. Whilst the suction is ample enough to excite!, the built in attachments simply are not practical. This includes.
1. Too Short
2. Breaks easily
3. Keeps coming out of the bottom.
The hoover is also very heavy, and because of this, my wife refuses to use it. Consequently I end up having to do the hoovering, which although I enjoy, can sometimes get tedious when doing the stairs with the short attachments.
The attachments coming out of the bottom tend to be a real pain as you have to keep bending over. This gives rise to back pain, which at my age I cannot tolerate!
Come on Hitachi, get your act together and give us a hoover with longer attachments....

Good value
Review of Hitachi DV-P250e by
Howitza
Advantages: Price and quality, and options
Disadvantages: None
...I bought this DVD player for £300 and now it is selling for £400 - Hitachi have obviously realised that they have undersold this highly-well received player. Voted the best DVD player in the under £300 category when it originally appeared on the marketplace its classy silver exterior is a sure sign of its high calibre. Numerous options including multi-region capabilities and multiple speeds along with a great zoom function make for a very comprehensive list of additional features. The picture playback is where this little gem really shines however - you won't be disappointed with the sharp, crisp images...

HItachi Customer Services
Review of Hitachi by
freaklikeme
Advantages: Definately none
Disadvantages: No reimbursement
...We purchased a Hitachi 28" Pure Flat Screen TV in the January 2003 sales. A bargain reduced from £600 to £389.
Unfortunately by February 2004 we had a problem with it. A grey screen with wavey diagonal lines and it kept turning itself off after about 5 seconds.
Anyway - stupid like we didnt take the extended guarantee - which i would advise everyone to do - if you can afford it obviously.
The TV was taken away by a local engineer and basically needed some extensive welding and it cost us £170 and we were left without the TV for 3 weeks.
Well we werent happy as you can imagine so we tried to contact Hitachi.
We telephoned our local Miller Brothers store who supplied it and they only had a fax number for Hitachi - nothing else !!!
So I searched the web and found a few addresses and forward the original reciept and a copy...
