...This is my parents' telly. It has proved great for having friends over to watch dvds. We don't actually have a dvd player so we connect up our laptops to the computer using the ports provided & our own leads for connecting a monitor to a computer & sound speakers. Theres a way around anything these days. It works great. Its like being in a cinema in fact. It is our new main home t.v. - mostly because our old one had just packed in & my dad believes you should always spend as much as possible on new stuff (hmm.. yeh, ok dad). This is our first plasma. It was fairly easy to set up & use, although I admit I left the setting up to dad. But he's famous for technical disasters so that must be a good thing. Once you know what you're doing, the connections are also very easy to use. Just one thing.. be careful with laptops, as connecting...

HOME CINEMA ON A BUDGET? TRY THESE.

Advantages: Small,unobtrusive satellite speakers.
Disadvantages: Not as good as larger speakers.

...I brought my set of tannoys 15 months ago and, at the time,they cost £300.Now,with a little searching around,they can be obtained for under £200. What you get in the box is five satellite speakers(two front,two rear and a centre speaker) plus a seperate powered subwoofer. You also get wall mounted supports for the two front and two rear speakers and all the speaker cables(i changed the cables to 79 stand q.e.d. speaker cable to improve the sound). Setting up the system is relatively easy:you just need an electric drill for the the wall mounted stands and once fitted,you just connect the cables to your home cinema amp. Easy!! Once you have connected everything,it is time to try out the system. My first reaction and i am sure yours will be the same was one of complete disbelief!! The sound quality for such small speakers...

Credo - I believe in cinema

Advantages: Beautiful, artistic, accessible

Invariably those that I like tend to the arty side of cinema. Occasionally there'll be a foreign language breakthrough like Amelié which brings this genre to the attention of a wider audience whereas films such as Tous les Matins du Monde will remain forever in the background. Cinema Paradiso is, however, a film that is both accessible and beautiful and cannot fail to be appreciated by anyone with a love of cinema. That it is subtitled is far from distracting, the photography taking care of the story for the most part and one is quickly subsumed into a world that is all encompassing. ...We purchased a Hitachi 28" Pure Flat Screen TV in the January 2003 sales. A bargain reduced from £600 to £389. Unfortunately by February 2004 we had a problem with it. A grey screen with wavey diagonal lines and it kept turning itself off after about 5 seconds. Anyway - stupid like we didnt take the extended guarantee - which i would advise everyone to do - if you can afford it obviously. The TV was taken away by a local engineer and basically needed some extensive welding and it cost us £170 and we were left without the TV for 3 weeks. Well we werent happy as you can imagine so we tried to contact Hitachi. We telephoned our local Miller Brothers store who supplied it and they only had a fax number for Hitachi - nothing else !!! So I searched the web and found a few addresses and forward the original reciept...

Hitachi HDR161 - Very handy!

Advantages: Lots of room for recordings, tapes 2 shows at the same time, can pause live TV
Disadvantages: Your restricted to what you can receive through your aerial, no digital PDC alternative

...I believe this model is only available at Argos, so for a start if you want to purcahse this, you'll have to live close to an Argos store or possibly arrange for delivery, check their site to see if they currently offer home delivery or store reservations. Now I purchased this just slightly under a month ago but I've used it substantially since then. I must admit, it was a bit of an impulse buy, I'd wanted to buy myself a Nintendo Wii all week and then suddenly on Friday, I decided to change my mind and had a flick through the Argos catalogue to see if I could find something that I thought I'd enjoy and get more use out of (as I decided that I didn't think it was worth the £180 for the Wii when I really don't play my other consoles enough as it is). Cinema from home!

Advantages: Best quality sound!
Disadvantages: room shakes (not good for the neighnours!)

...This is one of the best quality home cinema players you can get, Its made by Sony who have a brillant reputation, You also have a usb cable at the back so you can plug in your iPod so you have AMAZING sound, trust me it is! (you can also play photo slide shows on it!) The price is VERY good for the quality of the product, I would pay alot more if i knew how good it was when i shopping and saw it! Its is easy to install (even for someone who isnt used to setting up dvd players!) The sub woofer makes the room shake and feels like you are in the actual movie, but not a good idea if you have alot of neighbours around! I would give this 4.5/5...
