...We purchased a Hitachi 28" Pure Flat Screen TV in the January 2003 sales. A bargain reduced from £600 to £389. Unfortunately by February 2004 we had a problem with it. A grey screen with wavey diagonal lines and it kept turning itself off after about 5 seconds. Anyway - stupid like we didnt take the extended guarantee - which i would advise everyone to do - if you can afford it obviously. The TV was taken away by a local engineer and basically needed some extensive welding and it cost us £170 and we were left without the TV for 3 weeks. Well we werent happy as you can imagine so we tried to contact Hitachi. We telephoned our local Miller Brothers store who supplied it and they only had a fax number for Hitachi - nothing else !!! So I searched the web and found a few addresses and forward the original reciept...

Hitachi HDR161 - Very handy!

Advantages: Lots of room for recordings, tapes 2 shows at the same time, can pause live TV
Disadvantages: Your restricted to what you can receive through your aerial, no digital PDC alternative

...Freeview set top boxes that come with a built in hard drive, allowing you to record programmes from any channel the box can receive through your current aerial, through the Freeview platform, onto the hard drive. This model comes with a good size hard drive of, well the model number pretty much gives it away, you guessed it, 160gb! which, Argos says (as does the manual), is the equivalent of approxiemately 80 hours of recordings. It currently costs £129.99 and there is also a cheaper 80gb model which gives you half that space, so about 40 hours of recording time. I guess I was a bit greedy going for the larger model but if I really use it, I want to have room to store some films and TV shows for the weeks ahead and know I can still tape other things for some time to come... the space hasn't been a problem at all so far, I've got about 18...

Advantages: Smaller, lighter television, with the same picture size.

Hitachi CX68 MP3/CD + Radio - Tough Little Beast

A good cheap receiver

Advantages: It has TV Schedule and timer features
Disadvantages: You can't have Top Up TV

...I have the Top up box for 2 years now bought it used and still works amazingly well for the hard time we put it through is working 18 hours a day non stop 12 months a year so thats quite a reliability factor. To be honest at the beginning i had second thoughts about buying this freeview which I found as a special offer due to a couple of negative reviews I read that it died out but as I mentioned above it still working great after 2 years. The only downsides of this freeview receiver is that you can't add Top up TV and also it doesn't have any hard drive like more expensive receivers but this are features for more expensive receivers and didn't expect to have them when I bought it. The wonders of the Hitachi Deskstar

Advantages: Reliable, Quick, Quite, Good value for money

...If you are looking for an 80 GB hard disk for your PC, you have found the one to buy! I have been using 2 of these Hitachi Deskstar's in my PC for a long time now. I have had no problems with them. For the price you pay to buy one, you are getting cheap and reliable hard disk, witch has a good capacity to price ratio (around 2GB per pound). I would recommend this hard disk to anyone whom it is making up a new computer, or just needs more storage space. This hard disk is probable one of the quickest disks I have used, its read speed is good, but I must say, the SATA (serial ATA) version is about twice as quick, but for them that don't intend to go down the path of SATA Can just stick with the ATA-100 version (or IDE as it is more commonly known). ...I bought this from Dixons in the january sales for £29.99, I had originally gone in for a 'George Foreman' but they were out of stock so I decided to buy the Hitachi instead. I have never owned one of these before so wasn't sure what exactly I was going to do with it but the instructions were very clear and inspiring. The grill itself has two non-stick plates inside with a chrome lid and black feet, it looks very stylish but wieghs a ton! (I weighed it on the bathroom scales and it came in at over 6kg's).
