...a pretty useless manual feed as do most of these little printers for heavier cardstock. ease of use:- This is a snap pop in the cd and follow the instructions. as far as i know it works on all versions of windows i have only tried it on win xp and mac os x no problems in either. value:- 2.5 pence per printed page on average for the drum and toner is what i have gotten from this machine. the printer only costs between £60-80 so it is a bargain. it is lasting very well printed 1000's of pages on it. overall:- very good little printer for very small run printing....

Brother HL5240 laser printer

Advantages: Good all round laser printer, loads of pros
Disadvantages: very few, if any

...General & price: WOW, what a brilliant printer this is. Another great laser from Brother. I have had this printer for quite a few months now. I bought it for around £150 but the prices come anywhere between £140 and £220 from verious online retailers or some high street stores. There is so much i could say about this printer but it would take me ages to write it all and i'm not sure if i can handle it all. But i will right all the important parts. Excellent and Noisy Fun with Fun with a Drum

...I bought this product for my son from our local supermarket. Although he was only 14 months at the time he has shown a real love of musical instruments and I wanted to steer him away from my kitchen pans and long-loved recorder to something of his own which would give him the same joys and still be educational. From the moment I took it out of the packaging he wanted to get his hands on it and spent the first hour drumming solidly, enjoying every minute of it. It was a little harder for him to switch from blowing down the recorder to using the harmonica but once he'd made that first note he had no troubles and he was delighted with the tambourine. The maracas are fairly small (perfect for his little hands but I expect he would soon grow out of them) but the drum and tambourine are a nice size and will last well past his third birthday...

...The Brother HL-1050 is a fairly good laser printer. I've had mine for just over two years and in that time I've had no problems with it until recently. It can be connected via either parallel port or USB, comes with 4MB of memory and has a claimed print speed of 10ppm with a maximum resolution of 1200x600dpi. It is fast and handles text superbly and graphics adaquately. Toner cartridges are twenty five quid a throw and last a couple of thousand pages (I think) depending on print density and stuff like that. The printer driver offers a useful little window that opens and tells you the status of the printer (if it's asleep, if the toner is low, if the paper is jammed, etc). FANTASTIC BROTHER HL-1230 BLACK & WHITE LASER PRINTER

Advantages: TOTALLY RELIABLE, VERY ECONOMICAL, UNOBTRUSIVE

...My daughter bought this printer for her office (she does accountancy & bookkeeping) about SIX years ago. She upgraded to a more powerful model after two years (Brother of course) and we now have the original as the main printer for the main home computer - it is black and white, but we don't have any call for colour. Having, in the past had FOUR so-called excellent printers, by HP, Lexmark, et al , which required ink cartridges, I can only say that the Brother HL-1230 leaves them all standing at the starting gate. It is only on its second toner cartridge and we do a fair amount of printing. There is also the fact that with a laser printer there are no ink cartridges to dry out. The initial monetary outlay may be a little more but is more than compensated for by not having to buy ink cartridges, which do not last anywhere...

Drum Machine Dinosaurs

Advantages: Individual outputs, mental tuning options, good pattern programming
Disadvantages: Primative, some dodgy sounds, small memory, early versions are tempramental

...I used to own a drumtraks drum machine but it got nicked by someone who was in love with the kickdrum sounds. Plainly the man was either deaf of insane as i certainly would not buy another one today. The SCI drumtraks is a fairly primative drum machine released in 1984 alongside the SCI sixtraks synth/sequencer. The front panel has 13 drum buttons divided into six channels with each channel having it's own monophonic output jack which is handy for external processing. The sounds themselves are not really anthing to be excited about, the clap in particular sounds like no human hand was ever involved in its production. This is odd as the Drumtraks was one of the first drum machines to use sampled sounds. The fact that you can play each sound at 16 different tunings makes up for the crap sounds to some extent as each sound can be tuned...
