...I went to stay here in 2006, I think. For my sisters wedding. It was a nice hotel, the architecture inside I knew wasn't real, but it was meant to look posh. Which it did, but only in one room... the reception. So, I stayed here for two days and one night. I didn't sleep on a proper bed, because the room was full in which I was sleeping in (Since its a wedding and all). So in the corner of the room, I had to sleep on a horrible, tiny, lumpy bed. Which can be folded again into a bag. Of course, I can't blame the hotel for the poor bed, because this was my own fault. I'm sure that if there weren't so many people I could of slept on the double bed, which is better. So, in the early days, considering to be the 1800's - Alton House Hotel used to be a house. Not a hotel. Rich people used to live in this house. It was only in the 1940's that...

Hillthwaite House Hotel - a Haven!

Advantages: Value for money, service, restaurant
Disadvantages: Drive is on a very steep hill!

...I've just got back from a long weekend in the Lake District. You might question the wisdom of going to the Lakes for a weekend of watersports and outdoor activities in wintry March, and you'd be right to do so! However, the gale force winds, hail and snow were made bearable by the excellent Hillthwaite House Hotel where we were staying. The hotel was an absolute haven! Basics The hotel is a family run business and has about thirty rooms. We were staying on a special weekend offer and paid £185 each for three nights, including bed, breakfast and dinner. The hotel is in Windermere and is about a fifteen minute drive from the M6. It has a swimming pool, sauna and steam room. Advantages: perfect service, helpful staff, lovely food and rooms
Disadvantages: can be somewhat expensive but you will get great service

Hollies Hotel standards sink to all time low!!!!!

Advantages: good location to Winer Garden,and Tower and shops.
Disadvantages: badly run hotel,food uneatable for most of the time.

...I stayed at this hotel on the 15th of September,please,please do not stay at this hotel the place is a dump.The Hollies hotel in Albert road used to be a very nice hotel,good rooms good food,but that was last year,it is under new ownership,the hotel next door has bought this hotel the new owners which also own the Georgain hotel have ruined a perfectly good hotel,My holiday with the new owners was not great.All of my meals that I had were terrible,the food was either over cooked or burnt,under cooked,or cold and even raw.The cups and saucers,cutlery,suger bowls,milk jugs had not been washed and were dirty.When I did have something to eat,there wasn't much of a choice of menus,they were very mean with the portions of food,the service was very slow I was waiting 20 minutes before anyone served me with my first meal,there wasn't enough...

Villa country House Hotel

Advantages: Friendly staff, clean
Disadvantages: Pricey, can have a few problems

...My partner, daughter and I stayed at this hotel a couple of times when we go and visit the family up there. From the outside the hotel looked beautiful and clean and looked really big, as soon as i stepped in the doors i was weary but the staff are all nice and always had a smile on their faces. The hotel could do with a bit of a lift inside, the rooms wasn't as big as expected from the outside but was well furnished with all your little pieces ( trouser press, tea/coffee etc) The restaurant was nice with all your traditional food, the waiters and waitresses all know what they are doing and don't mess around, there was one complaint on the next table about a steak wasn't cooked right and the waiter offered to change it straight away, The waiter then came back out and said the steak was all from the same bit lot and it will...

The Holly and the Hamster

...When I was younger I always had my nose in a book. Being the huge animal lover I was, I often chose to read books about animals. The Animal Ark book series by Lucy Daniels was very popular with me, and one of the titles was Hamster in the Holly. Although you should never judge a book by its cover, I always do, so it is important that it looks good! Thankfully this one does. There is a gorgeous little picture of a hamster, a gorgeous golden colour, wedged in front of a holly bush complete with glossy red berries. It is the one cover that I can never forget, its adorable. It definitely made a good impression on me. The book itself is about Mandy Hope, whose parents are vets.
