My first Trumpet... aaahhh.

Advantages: very cheap and good for beginners
Disadvantages: basic and not for the professional

...As you may have guessed from the title, my first trumpet was a YAMAHA which I bought some years ago now for a bargain price of £250. I think that the model I bought was the one below this one, but they are still very similar and fundamentally the same. This model comes with three valves... there's a surprise, and mobile 1st and 3rd valve slides. It is available in gold laquer as well as silver plating, but the silver plating will cost a little extra. These more basic models are easier to take care of and last longer as they are less fragile. The threaded guide on the 3rd valve slide on a vincent bach is REALLY annoying if it gets even slightly bent. The YAMAHA has a more simple mechanism consisting of a screw which catches on the rim at the end of the tubing to stop it coming all the way off. I have had absolutey no...

Review of Yamaha YTR2335 Standard Bb Trumpet

Good beginners trumpet

Advantages: Well made, good sound, good case
Disadvantages: Some valves dodgy

...This trumpet is one I usually recommend for beginners. As with all Yamahas it is well made and produces a reasonably responsive sound. The trumpet looks good and the laquer does not wear off quickly as with some cheaper makes of trumpet. The valves are usually all right though I have had problems with some more recently bought instruments. The case provided is excellent being quite compact but having a useful sub compartment in which to carry music. The price is reasonable if bought mail order. It is certainly better value than some cheaper models which don't sound so good or last so long. It should also be easy to resell...

Trumpet - Jackie Kay

Advantages: Original ideas, doesn't take too long to read
Disadvantages: Quite dark in terms of tone and mood

...This is the first piece of work I have read which has been written by Jackie Kay, and i found that the plot and ideas in 'Trumpet' were so original that I would have no idea what to expect if i were to pick up another novel or poem of hers - I'm not sure if this is a good or a bad thing.. Firstly, a main summary of the novel itself . The plot is based on a famous saxophone player named Joss Moody, who has recently passed away, much to the grief of his wife and son. There is a major twist, though - Joss is not the person everyone thought he was. He was hiding a major secret about himself from the rest of the world (one which I won't reveal in my review). The novel deals with the aftermath of his death - the first part is narrated by his wife, who is trying to deal with home life. Her part in the novel covers flashbacks to when she...

Yamaha Student trumpets

Advantages: Good quality and always reliably in tune.
Disadvantages: Cost a bit more than similar student trumpets.

...Yamaha have been making musical instruments for over one hundred years and I have always found their brass instruments to be reliably in tune, which is not always the case with other student trumpets. Since about 1980, they have always had a student instrument priced between £250 and £300. The 2320 model was originally the only one in this price range. It is a well made instrument with quite good valves, and hard wearing gold colour lacquer finish. It has a mobile third valve slide for fine-tuning the low D and C#. As prices of instruments were rising, and the 2320 went over the £300 mark, they introduced a cheaper trumpet into the UK. The first of these was the T100S This is a silver plated trumpet, with a smaller bore than the 2320, making it suitable for younger players. The valves are reasonable, so long as they are...

Tiny trumpet

Advantages: nice story, lovely pictures, teaches children about sharing
Disadvantages: Nothing I can think of

...This book is called "Tiny Trumpet" and is yet another book from the Practical Parenting range which aim to "be fun to share together, stimulate imagination, develop understanding through words and pictures and encourage an early love of books and learning". The RRP is £3.99. I purchased this book along with several others from the Book People in a Lucky Dip selection. I like to have a box of books available for presents to give to friends children. My godson and his brother and big fans of books and I enjoy reading to them. Age Each of the books from the practical parenting range are aimed at a certain age range from birth to five years. This book is aimed at the 2-3 years age group. The Introduction = If you have read my other book reviews in this series you will know the others give advice on how...

Microsoft Office Professional

Advantages: IT'S COOL LOOKING
Disadvantages: YOU HAVE A DEADLINE TO MEET?.....DON'T USE!!

...a better result? gee!! not for me at least because, what i feel working with the product is CLUMSINESS, i practically have to look for almost every thing(buttons) to carry out some functions ( THANK GOD FOR SOME SHORT CUTS). One good thing that was done on it anyways, is the fact that you are presented with different "Save AS" options. But take my advice, if you have to work with MS office professional 2007, be sure you save your documents with the "97 - 2003" option because God help you if you are sending that finished document to someone like myself who has decided to stick with MS office 2003 ( atmost 2005) and believe it or not there are quite a number out there. My opinion - Microsoft Office Professional 2007 is cool, but i LOVE my reliable and dependable and easy to USE MS office professional 2003....

Masterchef: The Professionals

Advantages: Entertaining
Disadvantages: Repetative

...Ah yes, Masterchef. Gone are the days of Lloyd Grossman mulling over the red, blue and yellow kitchens, and instead two chefs-cum-critics ? Greg Wallace and John Torode ? over see the whole concept?and then there?s Masterchef: The Professionals, which sees mega chef Michel Roux Jr. casting his eye over proceedings. Made by Shine Productions, it?s a knock out competition that pits chefs from across the country against one another. In this review; the ?Professionals? version, we expect to see the highest quality of food, in some of the most testing of conditions. To begin with, a few chefs go up against each other in a seemingly basic skills test. Well, I say basic ? I certainly have no idea how to spin sugar, and wouldn?t know where to begin! The wheat is separated from the chaff so to speak, and then they cook for Wallace and Roux...

MIcorsoft Office 2007 Professional

Advantages: New, quick and easy to use programs
Disadvantages: Skin can be a bit of an eye sore

...Microsoft has given it's office system a complete revamp for this new Professional version of Microsoft Office 2007. For the person who is used to the images of Office 2004, 2005 etc. the new skin can take a while to get used to and seems to be a bit more 'retro' then previous skins that have been included. In this pack you get: * Microsoft Office Access 2007 * Microsoft Office Excel 2007 * Microsoft Office Groove 2007 * Microsoft Office InfoPath 2007 * Microsoft Office OneNote 2007 * Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 * Microsoft Office Powerpoint 2007 * Microsoft Office Publisher 2007 * Microsoft Office Word 2007 Access can be used to make databases and is a good starter point for either learning students, or a start-out company looking to keep a tight budget. Excel can be used to make complicated maths equations, and many...

You can not blow this trumpet

Advantages: pretty
Disadvantages: can be invasive

...Trumpet vine, Campsis radicans (Bignoniaceae) .I do not have a trumpet vine growing in my garden, but I know someone who does. My friend has a yellow flowered trumpet vine growing vigorously up an archway. This is in full sun. The vine will also grow along the ground where there is no support and makes a good ground cover. This vine looks magnificent in a green house too This flower comes in a few different colours ranging from yellow through orange to red. The roots like a fertile, moist soil that drains well. The plant will shoot upwards and grow green leaves. The leaves are what are termed as pinnate this means feather like with one leaf having lots of smaller leaflets which grow opposite each other. The group of leaflets are 10 -30 cm long. The Aerial roots grow from the stems of this vine. The Arial roots help this vine...

A lovely B+B in Devon

Advantages: Convenient, friendly owners, good breakfast.
Disadvantages: A bit pricey

...Last summer I spent a few days in Salcombe after my Mum had booked this place as a birthday present for me. It was my first time in Salcombe so I didn't really know what to expect, but my Mum had been going there for years so I was looking forward to discovering it. The Ria View is run by Peter & Bernice Henesey Smith. LOCATION: The Ria View is on Devon Road in Salcombe, Devon. Salcombe is a tiny town on the south coast. The roads to get there are quite windy so take care. Ria View Devon Road Salcombe Devon TQ8 8HQ (0044) (0)1548 842965 PRICES: Prices for a double room at the Ria View start at £62 per night and go up to £84 per night. This includes breakfast. PARKING: The parking at the B+B itself is very limited. We managed to get mine in but there is room for 3 cars and they can only be small cars...
