HOME CINEMA ON A BUDGET? TRY THESE.

Advantages: Small,unobtrusive satellite speakers.
Disadvantages: Not as good as larger speakers.

...I brought my set of tannoys 15 months ago and, at the time, they cost £300.Now,with a little searching around, they can be obtained for under £200. What you get in the box is five satellite speakers(two front, two rear and a centre speaker) plus a seperate powered subwoofer. You also get wall mounted supports for the two front and two rear speakers and all the speaker cables(i changed the cables to 79 stand q.e.d. speaker cable to improve the sound). Setting up the system is relatively easy:you just need an electric drill for the the wall mounted stands and once fitted, you just connect the cables to your home cinema amp. Easy!! Once you have connected everything,it is time to try out the system. My first reaction and i am sure yours will be the same was one of complete disbelief!! The sound quality for such small speakers...

home cinema for your viewing

Advantages: stylish, reliable, clear sound
Disadvantages: none

...I bought my cinema pack just under a year ago and it?s still in working order. It has a modern appearance so its still looks quite new. JVC?s Cinema Pack contains all you need to turn your living room into a fully fledged mini-audiotorium ? you just supply the screen, the form of a TV or projector. The DVD player, surround sound amplifier and speakers are all here. The DVD player and amplifier/control centre come as separate stackable units with the connectors necessary to join them and connect a TV. The DVD player is JVC?s XV-E1112 and is finished with a smart silver/grey front and well positioned buttons. It is capable of playing a wide range of formats including DVD, Svcd and VCD for video and MP3 music for audio. Both CD-R and CD-RW discs are also supported. The control centre deals with the surround sound amplifying...

Credo - I believe in cinema

Advantages: Beautiful, artistic, accessible
Disadvantages: Some may be put off by the subtitling

...FILM ONLY (with brief reference to the Director's Cut) Foreign language films are rarely top of my watch list although I have seen some cracking examples. Invariably those that I like tend to the arty side of cinema. Occasionally there'll be a foreign language breakthrough like Amelié which brings this genre to the attention of a wider audience whereas films such as Tous les Matins du Monde will remain forever in the background. Cinema Paradiso is, however, a film that is both accessible and beautiful and cannot fail to be appreciated by anyone with a love of cinema. That it is subtitled is far from distracting, the photography taking care of the story for the most part and one is quickly subsumed into a world that is all encompassing. Post-war Italy was a very different place to the society in which we live...

A world of cinema... for £162

Advantages: Great facilities, great Unlimited deal
Disadvantages: Expensive

...I am fortunate to live right next to a large Shopping Centre, that not only contains many good stores but is itself surrounded by many other retailers, restaurants, cinemas, etc. My favourite attraction: the Cineworld multiplex. Cineworld is Britain's second largest multiplex cinema operator in the United Kingdom, with 74 cinemas and over 800 screens. It also has one cinema in Jersey and another in the Republic of Ireland. Its first cinema opened in 1996, and the company has since integrated the UGC cinema chain. I like the "ambiance" at my local Cineworld. There is another huge cinema complex down the road, and even though everything in it is more spacious (lobby, screen rooms, washrooms) and boasts a slicker, more sophisticated decor, it feels colder and less welcoming. Cineworld, on the other hand, has...

Love cinema? Cineworld Unlimited Card

Advantages: Great value if you use it
Disadvantages: Can be cheaper to pay as you go

...'. The upshot of this was that seeing a film at a 'proper' cinema meant an hour's drive each way to either Braintree or Ipswich. So when I moved to Northamptonshire, the lure of not one but TWO multiplexes in spitting distance was too strong to resist. At that time, the UGC cinema was on my route home from the office and I found it very difficult to drive past and not drop in especially as I was in temporary 'digs' waiting for a house purchase to go through. The UGC became my second home. The first time I visited I discovered the Unlimited scheme. How it works *********** For just £10.99 a month (it was £9.99 when I joined nearly 2 years ago) you can go to the cinema as often as you want. It really is that simple. You can use your local cinema or any other Cineworld cinema, anywhere in the country - with the exception of the 4 West End...

Better than the cinemas! Fresher too!

Advantages: Real cinema sweet taste.
Disadvantages: No re-seal option on the bag.

...After a busy week of looking after children, house and husband I don't mind admitting to looking forward to Sunday evening, Sunday is my other halves day off and once 6.30 hits it's just us, peace and quiet! We usually like to sit in front of a film or play the ps2 with a varied selection of snacks spread out in front of us. I discovered Butterkist cinema sweet popcorn just before Christmas; we do a huge shop every year and buy in tonnes of naughty things to see us through the Christmas period. Normal toffee popcorn can sometimes be a bit too sweet so I thought I'd give the new cinema sweet variety a try, i've not had toffee popcorn since. Produced in Pontefract, West Yorkshire Butterkist is the UK's leading popcorn brand, it is made by Monkhill Confectionery which is part of the Cadbury Schweppes group. Butterkist popcorn was...

Home Cinema Heaven!

Advantages: Big screen, great picture, surround sound, sleek
Disadvantages: Need persuading to leave the sofa!

...Cinema without the train fare! Squint or spend? I recently moved house and ended up with a living room that's not massive but is very long. Having spent some time getting the old furniture to fit in acceptably I sat down one night exhausted to watch the TV, only to discover that it was miles away and I couldn't read the teletext! What was I to do? The sofa wouldn't fit any nearer and after a couple of nights of squinting I decided to throw caution to the wind and set off to the TV shop. It's a biggie I returned home with an enormous box full of polystyrene - no chance of damaging the product en route home. Luckily it also contained everything I needed to set up my LG 42 LF 66 in time for Corrie. I unpacked my 42 inch flat screen TV. It was pretty heavy and I needed help to get it unpacked safely. It balances on quite...

Home Alone

Advantages: Comdey none stop
Disadvantages: None

...Home Alone, was a classic hit comedy film that was first released in 1991. Even in my adulthood, I am more than happy to watch the film again, and when I was a kid I use to remember watching this film a hundred times during the Christmas holidays and summer holidays. It was such a feel good family fun film; it was the sort of film that even if you?ve watched it once you would never gets bored watching it over and over again. Plot: The film opens with the entire McCallister family packing for their Christmas vacation to France. The family is exceptionally big, some 30 plus including adults. Kevin McCallister the youngest in the family needs help packing his luggage, the older kids simply don?t have the time or the patience to help him, he feels left out and unwanted, just like most teenagers. A patrol police man Harry played by Joe...

A Cinema At Home

Advantages: Very large screen
Disadvantages: No PC input and DVI input (for a Digital Video Interface)

...Watching television shows has never been easy when what you have is only a small television at home because you have to be at the center of the screen to view the images very clear and it will be worst if you are a big family because you have no choice but to compress in the center. Unlike having a very big one like the remote-controlled Philips 37 PFL 5522 D which that has a very large screen of 37 inches wide, and displaying a highly defined and colorful images in a 1366 x 768 pixels resolution, you can watch at it with all your comfort at an angle of up to 178 degrees and at a distance of up to three times the size of the screen. Being formatted at 16:9, it would be very suitable for building a home cinema. As for its brightness and contrast, it has 500 cd/m2 and 6000:1 respectively, which is brighter enough for your visual...

Maidenhead Odeon Cinema - stay away!!

Advantages: there wasn't any!
Disadvantages: no food or drink, dirty, screens didn't work, didn't show any of the top movies

...I don't know anything about Maidenhead to be honest, but I'm pretty sure this is the only cinema there. I was away staying at me girlfriends Nan's last week, and we wanted to go to the cinema. We went swimming first, which is why we were at Maidenhead in the first place. Anyway, we got there at about midday, and couldn't wait to sit down and enjoy our movie... At the time we weren't one hundred percent sure what we wanted to see... I wanted to see the new Batman film, however my girlfriend hadn't seen any of the other Batman films and wanted to see them before spending £7 on seeing the newest one. So we decided we'd see that another time. We both wanted see Wall-E, and had both heard pretty good things about it - and we'd both been laughing at the films trailer the night before when we saw it on TV! So we'd finally decided what film...
