Peace of Mind
Review of ADT alarm by
Vikki42
Advantages: Reassurance your home is safe
Disadvantages: None
...We carried out a lot of research into home security before deciding on an ADT monitored alarm system just after we moved into our present home 3 years ago.
So why did we decide ADT was the one for us? Well the package was very attractive as was the monthly fee. For £25 a month our home would be monitored for Intrusion, Police Emergency, Fire, Key Holder Assistance and Distress. With ADT, alarm signals are sent automatically to their 24 hour Alarm Receiving Centre for appropriate action. Before they take any action they will try to contact the householder or key holders to establish that there hasn’t been a false alarm.
There is free annual maintenance and a built-in checking procedure to reduce the possibility of false alarms.
The lead up and actual fitting of the alarm system was a painless experience and not once did we feel...

HOW TO SAVE 200 QUID - AND LOTS OF GRIEF
Review of Member Advice on Burglar Alarms by
LostWitness
Advantages: Not appropriate
Disadvantages: Not appropriate
...with a price tag of at least £200.
Whilst these steps may seem drastic, such is the scale of the problem that many local authorities are now actively pursuing these powers, in an attempt to reduce the amount of noise pollution caused. It’s all very well arguing that the security of your home is important, but so is the peace and well being of your neighbours, and if you are unable to fit and maintain a working alarm, then why should everyone else suffer as a result?
As such, if you have a burglar alarm fitted to your home, I would recommend the following precautionary measures:
1. Ensure that a competent installer regularly services your alarm and ensures that the alarm has a 20-minute cut-out device fitted. Whilst the alarm sounding for 20 minutes will still cause a nuisance, the limited duration will mean that the disruption is minimal...

Why does the dog need a burglar alarm?
Review of ADT alarm by
signals
Advantages: It makes you feel secure.
Disadvantages: A dog is cheaper!
...Being a first time home owner, I was particularly concerned with my safety and the protection of my property. Crimes such as murder and theft seem to be on the rise, and can anyone ever feel too safe? I want to summon the law enforcement community to my home in a moments notice. Strangely enough, I have a dog. This story will seem rather amusing as it progresses.
I was referred to an ADT salesman, who arrived and assessing the situation, came up with an affordable plan for me. I signed an agreement for the plan, and the next day a technician arrived and installed the alarm. He then made sure I understood how to arm and disarm the system. I was also given easy to follow step-by-step instructions and a video. They do want to make sure you understand the system. They want to avoid 'false' alarms, and you are only allowed three a year...

Do You Protect Your Family And Home!!!!!
Review of BT Home Monitor VP1000 by
bazzaoleary77
Advantages: Great Peace Of Mind
Disadvantages: None
...of 1.8 meters to a target and are ideal facing windows. They have a pet detect setting which means dogs and cats are not detected due to size and weight.
4. Place the outside alarm box on the wall high up on the outside of your property its LED light will flash when the alarm is operated and the sound is absolutely horrendous. There are no wires as the whole system is wireless.
5. Your system is ready to be set up just register online or over the phone with BT and then they will instruct you when you can power up the unit and install the phone cable. You will then be able to check the status of your home security online from any computer over the net and set up your alerts to mobiles and landline phones so when the alarm is activated it will let you know you can register three numbers to be alerted.
6. Carry your key fob with you...

Security for the home
Review of Response RE5000S by
Belgarath_02
Advantages: Easy to install and use, Zoneable
Disadvantages: sensors are a bit expensive, but they ARE wirefree
...Having just been burgled, I decided to install a burglar alarm, and the best I could find for the money, was the Response RE5000S.
This alarm retails at about £170. The 5000s is a wire free system, so installation is very much a piece of cake. You just screw the keypad to the wall, screw the sensors into place, put the siren/strobe on the wall outside and away you go.
The alarm is zoneable, that is, you can set each sensor to be part of a zone ( zone 1 upstairs, zone 2 downstairs, zone 3 garage etc) and you can "part arm" the system if required, such as arming the downstairs zone but not the upstairs one when you go to bed. ( saves setting the alarm off when you get up in the middle of the night for a pee.
In the box you get the keypad, one remote control, one siren/strobe unit, one Passive infra red detector and one door...

Selca Spilt 88 Wireless Alarm Review
Review of Selca Split 88 Wireless alarm by
XTubbzX
Advantages: High level of security, Can be used in conjuction with other selca products, Different functions
Disadvantages: Expensive, Have to purchase PST Transponder key seperately, Difficult wiring
...This Selca split 88 wireless alarm protects any property in a 30 metre radius such as your car, boat, garage, shed, caravan and even your home.
Using its latest and greatest RISC generation processor with its 4 PIR and/or magnetic contact sensors within its 30m radius will provide a high level of security.
When the 4 sensors are programmed correctly this makes for a very versatile alarm system and when an unauthorised break-in takes place the alarm will sound... very loudly causing everyone in the vicinty of this annoying sound to wonder what the hell is going on.
its also packed with two special functions which are its two anti-hijack functions which protect against the theft of keys and using its interior movment sensors it can protect the building in which the vehicle is being held along with the vehicle.
The first anti-hijck function...

Safe & Secure
Review of ADT alarm by
PeteLuv
Advantages: Monitored system, cost effective, a national brand
Disadvantages: None
...to have a phone line for the monitoring service and sign a 3 year contract. But - do the sums, you'll see that this works out cheaper in the long term than others. If you move house within the 3 years then you can opt to carry your contract to your new house (obviously it has to have an ADT alarm, or you get another fitted).
All in all, I think that having an ADT box on the outside of my home is a sure way to tell all the opportunist intruders that I'm not messing around when it comes to home security. Granted, it is £25/month, but for that I get piece of mind knowing that if my alarm goes off for any reason, I get police/fire brigade response and I know that someone is on their way in an emergency.
I found that going to an ADT authorised dealer was cheaper than going direct to ADT. Once installed, you are 'handed over' to ADT for the term...
