Dyson-ing with a hoover

...Now you all know me and I usually do not write reviews about things such as vacuum cleaners, but I thought I would share this experience that sucks, or doesn't in this case, with you all. This one involves a machine called the "dust manager cyclone" made by the famous "Hoover" company. HISTORY For about 18 months we have had a second hand cylinder type dyson vacuum cleaner. Good on its day it is about 6 years old and donated by my Dad. However we have a long haired German Sheppard and when she moults, she moults. This year has been the very worst in all the time we have owned her; probably due to the summer arriving so fast and missing out spring altogether. No more Dust and Dog Hairs everywhere.

Advantages: Reasonably priced, easy to assemble and use. Top marks for Hoover Service Centre.
Disadvantages: A bit fiddly to empty

...Hoover Dust Manager Bagels System I have revised only the last paragraph of this review. It isn't the best Hoover I have used, but better than I first thought. And top marks to Hoover for sending the replacement parts so quickly and for the nice polite lady I spoke to on the phone. I wanted to buy a cheap and cheerful bagged upright vacuum cleaner. We went and looked in all the big stores and there really wasn?t much choice most now being bag-less. Eventually in Co-op on special offer for £79 was a Hoover Dust Manager. Fear The Dust.

Advantages: A thought-provoking read.
Disadvantages: Not completely satisfying.

...INTRODUCTION I first heard of this book by reading a review of it on Ciao by baby1j2005. I am interested in reading about survival and how people cope with extreme situations. I have read many factual accounts from survivors of the Holocaust of WWII and from the inhumane nuclear attacks on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. I have also read a lot of fiction based on the plague and nuclear holocaust, so my interest in Children of the Dust was piqued and I bought it from Amazon for £4.99. Hoover Dust Manager

Disadvantages: Isn't every thing it should be

...MY wife bought our Dust Manager from a web based outlet and was extremely happy with the delivery and price of the machine. Thats where it all fell apart !. Yes there are five levels of filtration ,which I was well chuffed with being asthmatic all my life and suffering from the usual house mite allergies. However this seriously compromises the small dust holder and we have found that the filters need cleaning EVERY time it's put away and the dust container needs emptying after EVERY room has been hoovered (we hoover evey other day ). It absolutely refuses to pick up spilt powder from a tiled floor -more likely to blow it about - and is ineffective on our bedroom carpet if required to pick up fluff from socks or cotton threads. However it does look good as an ornament in the cupboard ! Are we happy with it --- what do you think...

We Are But Shadows and Dust

Advantages: Distinctive sound and vocals, great catchy riffs, well executed
Disadvantages: None

...and immensely entertaining, with plenty of sections that simply beg to be bellowed or screamed out loud. 'Shadows and Dust' is a relentlessly heavy yet also very catchy and melodic listen that marries over the top silliness and sonic intensity in a way that is hugely endearing. Full of great riffs, its a very uplifting and entertaining album from start to finish. It's by far my favourite Kataklysm album, and the band would seem to acknowledge its appeal as they played it almost in its entirely last time I saw them live. Catchy, fun and crushing. Review of Shadows And Dust - Kataklysm

Dust Devil - a future classic?

Advantages: Atmospheric 'horror' movie dominated by its hypnotic tone and suspense; makes beautiful use of the Namibian desert
Disadvantages: Those looking for gore won't find it here

...I'm not sure when I first saw Dust Devil except that it comes under that category of late one night I ended up watching some film, I know not why, and was amazed. Such is Dust Devil. Then, yesterday, I saw the DVD, and heedless of price I bought it, knowing that it is practically a 'lost' film, though it was only originally released in 1992. I didn't want to get home, search the internet for the cheapest price, only to find it out of stock, out of stock. The DVD is in fact a director's cut, or as the credits at the end note, the restored version. Miramax removed some portion of the film and I don't know what or why. There are deleted scenes on the DVD that you can understand the omission of. They don't feel right. Except, that is, for one scene regarding the ringing of telephones that links together several strands of the plot...

Review of Dust Devil (DVD)

a bad hoover design

Advantages: 4 carpet thickess setting, red, no bag, fittings
Disadvantages: falls over, cuts out, gets broken

.... Negative points --------------------- It seems badly designed on every feature. 1. The hose is not quite long enough to get to the top step, so the hoover falls over, or you do (on stairs, dangerous). 2. The tools fall out of the carrying holes in the back, meaning you never actaully have them when you need them, and have to walk around looking for where they fell out. 3. No bag means you have these plastic contains, which are quite easy to empty, but you do have to wash them to keep them clean enough so they work well. This means drying them out. A lot of effort and waste of time. Not impressed. 4. There are 2 filters which need to be cleaned as well as the plastic dust holder. So much effort for a lazy boy 5. ...I would have to say that simply these dazzle dusts pots are really a fashion MUST have! You can buy them for about £4.50 from most chemists such as Boots or Superdrug and you can also buy them direct from the Barry M site if you would prefer. There are SO many colours to choose from so you could never say there wasn't one to suit you- in fact I think there is over 60 shades in total and they are always bringing out new colours (recently they have brought out shades such as 'dark chocolate, petrol black, parrot green'...) Personally I have loads of these dusts including Mushroom, Khaki, Blue Violet and Peony. They look great when they are blended together and you can even mix them to create your own colour palette! There are an infinite amount of possibilities! The packaging, I think is great as it is small and compact- great...

Review of Barry M Dazzle Dust

Damn good Hoover . . .

Advantages: Light, efficient etc

...Right, those members remembering Hoover Juniors, will know they are a bog standard little vaccuum, correct so far. What has changed is the design, gone is the functional practical austere look, this is the new Doctor Who of cleaners. This is the new improved "Hoover with attitude" It looks modern, stylish even, and I dare say designers have been briefed to give it a sort of "In your face image". While I have absolutely nothing against the idea of a household appliance being trendy, or even cool, I just think that we should keep out feet on the ground. "It is only a vaccuum cleaner" nothing more, nothing less. Weight is only 3.8 Kgs, very light for this type of appliance. Availability is good, you will find them everywhere. As for the price, do not pay more than £35, this seems an enormous amount of money to me, but...
