...Ok, so the end of November might seem a strange time to buy a garden hose reel set, but mine tends to get more use washing a muddy dog & dirty cars, especially at this time of year. The previous hose reel I had, has recently given up after a number of years of sterling service. ...I normally tend to write reviews on items I like, and recommend, but in this case I can't actually recommend these at all. The reason being, they do not last, being of steel construction, they rust very quicklly. The paint finish is poor, and the steel is not thick enough. They do tend to bend at the least provocation, and although the basic idea is sound, the materials are not good enough. The design was copied from Firefighting Hosereels, where the hose could be ran out very quickly, the reel swinging out toward the fire, and making it up again was a doddle.. I would like to see a better quality version of these, that really would be something. All fittings are made from corrosion resistant brass, and the reel is supposed to hold some eighty feet of hose! Amazing flat hose.

Advantages: Compact flat hose, can use when on reel.
Disadvantages: No good when there is a hose pipe ban.

I thought so too, and having messed about in my garage for hours, using bits of copper pipe & Jubilee clips, I finally decided to get the proper kit. The Hose Mender itself is nothing special, it is simply a means of attaching one end of a hose pipe to another, in a short length. It does this very well, and although I have forgotten the price, it can't have been much more than a couple of Pounds. ...You may not have heard of these before, and probably never used one, you may even think it is a gimmick. This is not the case, they are really rather good. Many years ago, I needed to extend my old garden hose, I did this by using an old curly "Suzi" airline from an artic, (I had been using this as a supply for my spraygun) this seemed to do the job a treat, and basically it looks like someone has pinched my idea, although I may not have been the first to think of it. Pro's No kinks like normal hosepipes. Standard fittings accept appliances made by Hozelock as well as other firms. You can plug into a lawn sprinkler, or a MiracleGro feeder, wateriing lance etc. Made by Hozelock (with a Z - take note Ciao) so quality made. Available everywhere at a reasonable price, check out the usual DIY superstores. You could extend it...

Advantages: It passes water as it should

...does tend to pick up dirt. Also it is very easy to change fittings on it, some have ribs that interfere with plastic fittings, which means in some cases you have to "shave" them off with a Stanley knife. These hoses are available at the big DIY superstores, and do last far longer than a "cheaper" alternative. Tips:- Always drain & stow away for the winter, coil onto a reel or hooks to keep it neat, and after use always turn the water supply off & release pressure in the hose. And go for the Hozeloc fittings, they are so easy, once you use them, you will never look back. Right, 250 words (without this but) I think that is enough to be called a real review, none of those quicky jobs thank you....
