...First let me explain ?scone shoes.? When I first ordered shoes from the Shoe Tailor, experts in wider-fitting shoes, I measured my feet incorrectly and found that the only shoes in their catalogue that would fit me were their widest, ugliest, most orthopaedic, brown, granny shoes: the type you might wear to go out with your friends for a scone, in your later years. Hence my friends groaningly called them my ?scone shoes? and walked several yards behind me on the way to the pub every night. They were very comfy! However, they fell apart after a couple of years of continuous wear, and once gone, same said friends took me shopping to some ?proper? shoe shops in Glasgow and I never once consulted my Shoe Tailor catalogue again. ...I first read Ballet Shoes when I was eight. It was the first of Noel Streatfield's books I'd read, and it remains my favourite. I put it away during my teenage years and forgot about it until Christmas 2007 when I watched the BBC adaptation with Emma Watson. I went to Indonesia and got the film on knock-off DVD, and immediately after watching I rang home to get my parents to order me a copy. It was a great welcome home. ...We have all heard of the drought conditions that have been experienced in England recently. Unfortunately, although my part of the country is reputed to be "drier than Egypt", this isn't apparent in my garden. Following weeks of rain, the old shoes I had been using outside, finally gave up the ghost and fell apart. My feet were just as wet as they would have been had I been outside with bare feet! This WAS an option - but having seen some of the wildlife that wanders around the garden, NOT something that I chose to do. Hot Comedy!

Advantages: Funny, big names, Simon Pegg was great

...I do enjoy a good comedy film, so how Hot Fuzz has passed me by so far is a bit of a mystery to me. I loved Simon Pegg's feature film "Run Fat Boy Run" and since I have seen that, lots of people have told me that I would definitely enjoy Hot Fuzz too. So when I went to stay at my parents for a week and they suggested we watch a film, I spotted Hot Fuzz on the shelf and immediately decided that was the film of choice. My family do enjoy a comedy film, and this film certainly didn't disappoint for us, so much so we went out and bought it after seeing it! ...I just reviewed The Nanny Diaries which was a book turned film but another which was done like this a few years back was 'In Her Shoes'. It was another book which I had been meaning to read and had literally just seemed to have heard about. Next thing I knew, I was seeing trailers for the film version so yet again I never got round to the book and ended up having to see the film version first. I can't remember now how much my copy was, but the book is available from Amazon used or new from only 1p (plus £2.75 p&p). The book was first published in 1994, and then reprinted in 1999. It is now printed by Siena, an imprint of Parragon Books who published the first edition. It is written by Sue Ashworth with illustrations by Julia Bigg. A little background...
