It is in a fantastic location very close to the Passeig de Gracia and a short walk to Las Ramblas and the Barri Gotic (about fifteen minutes walk). The metro and trains get you anywhere you want to go in Barcelona and its only a five minute walk to the nearest station. The metro and trains are reasonably priced. Metro is 1 euro per ride. Train from airport to bottom of Arago was 6.50 euros each way. Hotel Balmes - great hotel in a great spot of Barcelona!

Advantages: *Great location to Metro stations *Modern, clean and comfortable furnishings *Good staff
Disadvantages: *Pool is small *Expensive food and drinks in the hotel

...For those looking for a peaceful, laid-back and friendly hotel in the heart of Barcelona, this is the one. We arrived in the heat of a Summer's day, and were only too relieved to find our hotel foyer (and room) were eager to cool us down with their air con! The hotel immediately seemed worth more than it's 3 stars, with its marble foyer and art sculptures welcoming us in, as well as 2 friendly members of staff. They spoke a fair amount of English and were very keen to have someone take our bags up to our room which was much-needed on a hot day like that! Our room wasn't huge, but still an ample size for just 2 people. There were 2 single beds, a lovely leather armchair, a wardrobe with shelving, a safe, a flatscreen TV with about 15 channels, bedside tables, good lighting, drawers, air conditioning with controls and an ensuite bathroom...

Advantages: Fantastic design of the hotel, great location, great price, friendly staff, very clean hotel
Disadvantages: No minibar or tea/coffee making facilities, 'open-space' bathroom, TV loosing signal

...If you want a once-in-a-lifetime experience, stay at the Arts Hotel, Barcelona, preferably over Christmas. This new hotel, the tallest building in Spain, has terrific views either over the city or the Med (the latter rooms slightly more expensive) from elegant, tastefully furnished rooms and service which is second to none. One has to get used to the rather odd hours kept by people from this city, who go out to dinner at midnight, and sleep through the afternoon. Pension Miami Hotel, Barcelona, Spain.

Advantages: Close to centre, clean room, great staff, near great shops, cheap and clean!
Disadvantages: no view, alley way smells, people pee in alley way, noisy.

...pm had a couple of prostitutes (one lady who sat there everynight on the window-ledge of the little cafe). She was far too old to be doing what she was doing so we said 'Ola!' to her everyday! She was friendly, but not always 'together' some of the time! There are plenty of shops near the hotel that sell all you need (cheap litre bottles of vodka for 6 euro's!) The cafe (previously mentioned) is great for morning coffee and the staff are great! Overall we loved Barcelona so much that I want to go over there and live and work. You will love it. Watch out for bag pinchers (saw 1 near the hotel and nearly 1 on the Ramblas). If there is anything you want to know about the hotel or Barcelona feel free to ask!...

The Art (Of Forgetting A Clothes Peg)

Advantages: Centrally placed with reasonable room rates. Nice staff. Well furnished
Disadvantages: Area never totally quiet - get a room at the back. No immediately obvious disabled facilities

...When I wrote about my experiences in Lisbon a few months back, I was taken to task for spending too much time describing the hotel, so this time, things are going to be a little different. With a distinct sense of trepidation I'm going to write about a hotel as a stand-alone item for the first time ever, quaking at the thought of my opinion being compared to one by Ciao's very own 'unpaid hotel inspector', Uncle Bill's nephew himself, Richada! I've just got back from 5 very enjoyable nights in Athens (and the days weren't bad either!). Part of what made it enjoyable was our stay at The Art Hotel, Marni Street 27, Athens. To be honest, it would be difficult to describe how to get there from the airport as we'd pre-booked a taxi, which ended up stuck in horrendous Monday night traffic, made worse by an obliging perfectly...

Arty Des Arts!

Advantages: Original building, nice and clean and decent rooms
Disadvantages: Could have quirkier rooms to match the rest of the hotel.

...perceived it from stood outside. Inside was a mix of modern touches such as the small lobby lounge with a flat screen pc for guests to use mixed in with the artistic and very Parisian style furniture and the art that hung on nearly every wall. I actually if I'm honest couldn't decide if I liked it or not as I did because it was boutique and intimate and at the same time some of the decor was too 'old fashioned' looking for my taste. However I think if you came to this hotel you wouldn't be disgusted by it and as you don't recoil in horror when you check in to a hotel that that has to be a good thing! The rooms: I would say I expected the rooms to be different after the decor of the hotel in the lobby and I guess it was because they seemed a little boring somehow - the lobby area had nice chairs and lots of art along with flowers...

Hotel Lloret, Barcelona

Advantages: excellent, convienient location right on la Ramblas
Disadvantages: there werent any for me!

.... shower fine, on the small size! I would definitely go back to the hotel, and happily recomend it. getting there - we got cheap flights from Bournemouth with Ryanair (£26.50, + 18 ish euros for a return ticket on Barcelona Bus from Girona airport right into the city to the bus station - and back). Barcelona is one of my favourite cities - so full of life & variety yet i think it caters for all tastes - its got the beach, the Olympic stadium, Art & Gaudi & Dali, tango, tapas & tons more. My favs: palau de la musica - stunning, Bar Pastis - tango nights tues & thurs, Casa Mila (La Pedrera) - gaudi's chimneys so magical if you get as dusk is just coming (check opening times!). Just writing this, I know now, I will be going back & staying again at Lloret - Barcelona is my fix & i want more. Hope you enjoy it too....
