Calais Hotel Meurice

Advantages: Central location but quiet, elegant, luxurious

...I often go to France for short breaks, usually from Poole to Cherbourg but recently for a change, and because of some business in Kent, my wife and I decided to revisit one of our favourite hotels, the Hotel Meurice, in the very centre of Calais. We spent a Saturday and a Sunday night there at the beginning of February 2008 and we weren't disappointed. Last time we had been here was about 10 yrs ago when its elegant interior was a bit jaded. It has been improved since, although there are still little bits here and there that need some TLC. Let's get straight to the point - Calais isn't the most attractive town in France so who would want to stay here? Well we did. We wanted several things that the Meurice allowed us to do. Booze Cruise to Calais

Advantages: cheap, fun, quick.
Disadvantages: None! We are after all talking about cheap booze and fags!

...we were and got off at Exit 36. It couldn’t have been easier. When we arrived we found that cigs were not much different from on the ferry, tobacco is though so if you want that it’s worth the extra drive. I didn’t mind it was my way of having a little peak round France and liking what I saw. Oh la la the best in Calais by far

Advantages: Relaxing hotel, easy to get to
Disadvantages: maybe a little pricey

...I had to travel to Germany, in fact it was the furthest part of the old West Germany you could get to, so I needed to break my journey (after travelling from the West Country), just coming out of the Channel Tunnel, Calais seemed a good place to stop off over night. *** Where is it *** The Holiday Inn "Calais - Nord" is located just out of the centre of Calais near the car ferry port. So it is very convenient for both the Channel Tunnel and the ferry ports. It took me about 10 minutes to drive there from the Channel Tunnel. Budget family hotels

Advantages: Clean, cheap and en-suite
Disadvantages: Romms open to the outside, could be noisy

...B and B are similar to formula 1 hotels but offer better facilities. They have en-suite bathroom facilities and the rooms are much bigger. We stayed at The Calais B and B which is ideally situated for the Cite Europe shopping precinct. As we stayed on a Friday night, booking was made over the phone 6 weeks in advance. We were given a number to use should we check in using the unmanned check in facility. When we arrived, this wasn't working, however, reception was open and we were greeted in a friendly manner. Check in took about 3 minutes and we were given a code to enter our room. Our room was clean and tidy. There was a double bed and steps leading up to the 2 single beds for our children. This allowed a litle privacy, something that is not possible at other hotels of this type. It was comfortable and relatively quiet...

Central and Simple

Advantages: Bang in the centre, reasonably priced, friendly staff
Disadvantages: Not luxury accommidation (if you want that)

...I had a couple of days holiday left at the end of July and decided I would venture over to Calais. I don't drive and didn't have a lot of money, neither do I know Calais or speak much French. So I was looking for a hotel close to the centre that wasn't too expensive. LOCATION Walking from the port, it took me less then 10 minutes to find the Place d'Armes where the hotel is situated. The Place d'Armes is like a square car park where they have markets, fayres, and such like. The four roads that join around the square are also called 'Place d'Armes', which could make matters confusing. However it would be difficult to miss Hotel Belazur because of it's size, but in case you are now worried, it is on the corner of Rue de la Mer/Place d'Armes and is painted a pastel blue and white colour. Advantages: extensive database of hotels, many quite inexpensive
Disadvantages: if a hotel cheats you, they will apologize, but do nothing.

I have reserved rooms using this service in the past, and have been very pleased. This, however, came to an end this summer. I booked a room at the Travel Inn in Reykjavik, only to find, upon arrival, that my wife, son, and myself were escorted to a car with no explanation. Eventually the clerk told us that we would be driven to the "other" location. The Travel Inn has, it seems, bought space in the Pavi Guesthouse (over a mile away). Sweet-Hotel

Advantages: Cheap, clean, good sized rooms, great location

In Calais, this hotel sat amongst two sister hotels - an Ibis and an Etap. Although I believe this to be the most expensive of the three, it was still very competitively priced. We paid 196 euros for a two-night stay, but look out for special offers, especially internet rates (www.suite-hotel.com) which are often as low as 132 euros for 3 nights at the weekend. Based on the cars in the car-park, it appears that most guests staying in this particular branch are from the UK. ...I recently went on a cultural girlie trip with a friend to Paris. I was left to do all the booking. I was looking for a reasonable hotel, near a metro stop, which included breakfast. I came across the Hotel International on various travel sites and it seemed fairly highly rated so I booked us in for three nights. LOCATION: The hotel is located 6 Rue Auguste Barbier in the 11th Arrondissement. The nearest Metro stop is Garcourt which was a two minute walk away and it was a five minute walk to Republique which gives good links to other lines. It's not really central enough to avoid the Metro and walk to the attractions but it was located so close to a stop that it seemed ideal. PRICE: Prices vary depending on size of room and season.
